Electrolux 70s washer/dryer turning clothes grey on sanitize cycle
Comments (21)Sabrown72... I understand you've done this practice (not sorting) your whole life but with your brand new high efficiency machine there is a learning curve. If you had a traditional top loader before you could get away with mixing as there was a ton of water to help suspend color transfer (plus your old washer never got as hot as the Sanitary cycle reaching over 150F). With so little water in "he" machines you're concentrating color dye as well as soils (dirt and body oils). Be sure to use a detergent for what you're washing. There are detergents geared for whites and detergents geared for colors and they really do help keep whites white and colors bright with less fading but you need to separate the two loads at minimum between colors and whites. Whites can withstand hot hot washes where colors will benefit with warm. I don't recommend cold/cool (unless your cleaning a blood stain or protein based stain), as cold/cool doesn't loosen body oils trapped in clothes fibers. For me the learning cure was dosing detergents and bleach with my Electrolux. I have soft water and only need 2 Tablespoons (3 for huge load) of detergent. There should be no suds visible, just bubbles. Only a 1/4 to 3/4 cup of bleach is needed. If you don't use liquid bleach you can substitute with an "Oxi" type bleach (only use on whites). I love my Electrolux and hope you enjoy it too....See MoreHow to get pet hair off in the wash?
Comments (17)We have a black lab/beagle mix dog and two Siamese cats. This probably goes without saying but the easiest way to remove pet fur from laundry is to limit how much goes in to begin with. No, I'm not advocating pet beds and never cuddling your pets -- I'd never suggest a rule I could never adhere to :) However: 1. Grooming does make a difference. I'm not great about it, but even once every other week or so with our short-hair breeds keeps the fur at bay. 2. Regular vacuuming. Much of the fur that winds up on bedding and clothing comes from the floor and furniture, as its carried on your feet and body. 3. Remove excess fur before laundering. Brush or tape-roll bedding to pick up the top-most layers of fur. Same for clothing or pet bedding. If the first layers are gone, the smaller pieces stuck between textile fibers have a better chance of working their way out, into the water, and down the drain. 4. Diet/hydration. Okay, feline nutrition is sore subject with me and apologies in advance if any of this comes off as abrasive. Dried kibble is one of the worst things you can feed a cat. Some vets will go so far as to say that the cheapest canned food is better than the most expensive kibble. The reason for this is that cats do not naturally feel thirst and seek out water, because their instinct is to get moisture/hydration from fresh kills. House cats have been domesticated for only a fraction of time as dogs (hence their behavior) and have not evolved to seek water from bowls. The result is a chronically dehydrated kitty and, in addition to the obvious kidney problems, what does this cause? You guessed it, excess shedding! We feed an entirely raw diet (rabbit, mice, chicks, etc.) and have almost no shedding. That said, raw is a huge commitment and I understand not everyone will do it. I encourage anyone with cats to read the most excellent research done, entirely pro-bono, by Dr. Lisa Pierson after her struggles keeping her own cats healthy. Her research, include food reviews is here: CatInfo - Dr. Pierson Meow :)...See MoreHelp please! Why is my new $$$ SQ Washer/Dryer pilling new clothing?
Comments (6)I've had a new SQ TL set for about 1 month and love it. I do not have soft water, but I did for many years in my previous home. Do you have a water conditioner? I ask, because when ours needed attention, it affected rinsing soap/detergent out of everything. I would suggest that you only wash with 1 HE detergent, skip all the other products, use the appropriate water temp and cycle for the sorted clothes and detergent - don't wash jeans with nice delicate items for instance - and use the correct level of water. I would do a second rinse since you have soft water. I love the small and medium levels. I only use delicate cycle for nice blouses, tanks, etc. and usually a small load. The delicate cycle is too gentle to get your everyday clothes clean. All that said, please use the dryer - no dryer sheets - and save your time and sanity, since the dryer isn't the source of the problem. I really like the nearly dry cycle choice for alot of my clothing. Using Downey and dryer sheets is adding a layer of 'stuff' on your clothes you don't need - just my personal opinion....See MoreRevlon One Step hair dryer/hot air brush 50 % off today
Comments (18)I haven't met you or seen your photo, Ded.. but sleek, thin, straight is definitely my hair. If i do have volume or wave, it is the result of mega product and manipulation. Ive shared this photo too many times lol.. but it was taken on the day (the only day) I used the revlon brush dryer. No volume, no lift. I do better with my round brush and conventional dryer-- and velcro rollers if i want more volume at the top and sides. It may be that Mtn has more texture in her hair or that she's more adept with the brush dryer than I am. I don't want to slam the product-- just saying that with my single attempt, it didn't do a thing for me. I will give it another go one of these days. Or maybe we need a good old fashioned slumber party so Mtn can do our hair and teach us how to use it!...See Moregroomingal
