Online sources: shower door/frosted tempered glass panels?
Comments (1)Wilson Glass looks to be a good place. I haven't ordered mine yet, but I have gotten an estimate and it seems really reasonable. The glass will actually be made at a glass place somewhere in your general vicinity, though it might not be real close, and then you have your choice of getting it delivered - for a seemingly reasonable fee - or picking it up....See MoreShower enclosure door: frosted or clear? FAQs?
Comments (1)There have been some previous threads on this and some people had some pretty strong opinions on this for clear, and some for frosted. As far as keeping the door clean, I think a frosted door gets just as spotted/dirty as a clear door, you just dont' see it as easily, but if you let it go too long it will be hard to clean. On a clear door you see the spots and will be more likely to take care it them sooner. I like the look of clear glass better because I want the tile in the shower to be seen. Frameless means no frame at all; not on the side nor on the top or bottom. The fixed glass (if you have any) attaches via small anchors, sometimes with a clear u channel on the bottom, somtimes not. The doors just have hinges. Wilson glass has a lot of information and some pictures you can look at: Wilson Glass...See Morecurbless and frosted glass tile
Comments (8)Bill, My glass has clear silicone on the fixed pain of glass and then a hinge on the floor that connects the fixed pain to the door. It does not have a metal track on the floor. It does have a header on top though. As recall when I was shopping for glass most companies did use a U-channel on the floor and I kept shopping around until I found one that only used the silicone. I don't have a pic at the moment but I will take one and post it later. Vern...See MoreFrosted glass that won't show silhouettes of people
Comments (12)Thanks for the tips. I just emailed Spectrolab and will report back with my findings. It looks like the application will consist of a laminated sheet of glass with a high-opacity plastic film between the two sheets. Throwing light between the shower occupant and the glass is definitely better than behind the occupant because this will cast a shadow and increase the chance of a defined silhouette visible from outside. I do plan on putting two recessed 6" can lights inside the shower. In addition, I will have one low-power dimmable LED up-light on the roof eave (exterior) directly behind the glass. This will create a unique lighting effect for the frosted glass shower wall when the shower isn't in use (imagine a glowing wall from inside the bathroom). Basically, I can have a cool exterior lighting effect combined with an even cooler interior lighting effect with this setup. I hope it all works out. Oruboris - Why would the window frame be spoiled by the water? From the interior, the tile will be laid up to and on top of the glass. From the exterior, this would be a traditional glass in standard aluminum window frame set up. Maybe I'm missing something?...See Moresuero
