How to put a live link in a post

Go to the site you want to post a link to and go to the top in your search bar and copy the link. Then come here and type your message and click "Preview Message". On the next page go down past "Submit Message" and paste the link you've copied into the "Optional link" space. Then below that type in the name of the site you are posting a link for. Then click "Preview Message" again and on the next page, "Submit" Now I feel really dumb for not figuring it out before. ;~) If there's a shorter way of doing this then please someone else jump in and tell us.

You can copy the link into the first page message area, you don't have to hit "Preview Message" first and do it on the second page. After "copying" the link into the "Optional Link URL" you must type in the "Name of the Link" on this first page or when you hit "Preview Message" you will get a page that says "Message Rejected" because you did not name it.

Sal, Thanks, but I'm missing something somewhere. When you start a new post there isn't an "Optional Link URL" on the first page. There is when you reply to a post though.

Also, I have a question for you about painting on cheap glass goblets. Will you email me please? sandiwhitty@aol.com

I thought the second looked like Chionanthus virginicus as did the first. This plant is dioecious so male flowers are on separate trees from female flowers, like most hollies, so fruiting will occur only on female flowered plants. If I recall correctly, the male has showier flowers. Leaves on fringetree are opposite or subopposite and there appears to be both a northern and southern form for the two species, Chionanthus retusus ( non-native) and Chionanthus virginicus. In Dirr's book , the leaf shape is clearly different on the southern and northern forms. Chionanthus retusus leaf shape looks quite rounded on the northern form. C. retusus seems to have brown exfoliating bark. Were there any labels with the trees?

I use Photobucket Free. Then.... 1...just type your message,...or in this case a reply to this post, changing the Subject of Posting line by one character. 2...open Photobucket in another tab 3...find the pic you want to post in the message, 4...click on HTML code found in the third box below the pic. It will say copied in yellow, 5...go back and paste the HTML in your message box, 6...hit preview, You will then see your message, and the actual pic, and 7... lastly hit submit. Sue

I can't figure out what you did wrong! I looked at the source code and it looks right, unless you just pasted the URL for the picture wrong? Yep, looks like that's the problem. This is the URL you used: photos.gardenweb.com/garden/galleries/2007/08/clematis_ruutel.jpeg This is the URL cnetter used: http://photos.ivillage.com/images/photos/resize/gardenweb_Garden%20Galleries_1186006541455_225223D.jpg I don't think you did anything wrong; there's just something wacky about the gardenweb upload feature. I use imageshack for all my uploads. It's free and you don't have to register if you don't want to, and I've never had any problems with it.

I'm sorry, you're absolutely correct in that there is NOT an Optional Link URL on the first page. When I typed the post above, I was already in your post and it was available. What a goof!!!!

Sandi, I sent you an email earlier this morning to the address you wrote above - did you get it? I just sent you another email also - not sent through Garden Web email site - just regular email. Check your "Spam Folder."

If you're at all technical, you could also just use the HTML tags.

Like this (replace both sets of the [ ] with ):

[a href="paste the web address here"]Name of Link Here[/a]

So for this particular Holiday Forum, it would be:

[a href="http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/christmas/";]GardenWeb Holiday Forum[/a]

Which, when you substitute the angle brackets, makes a link like this: GardenWeb Holiday Forum

Whichever way works best for you...

Bestalikat, Thank you for your help also. I am definitely NOT technical, but I think I could do what you've just told us. I just don't use the HTML tags enough to remember how to do them without saving your info in a doc and referring to it everytime. But I am going to save your instructions just in case. Thanks again. And I don't believe I've seen you post on this forum before so welcome. I hope you continue to visit and jump in whenever you want.

Thanks Sandi. I used to post here all the time way back before Spike started charging people to post. I even joined and paid for a year, but then quit coming.

I made my way back a few weeks ago and was glad to see it was free to post again. I spend most of my time on a different board, but like to check in here now and then too. =)

Bestalicat, I started back with Spike too. Then when they charged I stopped then finally paid, but just for one year. I think I started the first time in 99, but mostly on building a house forum.
Someone on another forum mentioned Spike something about his contract being up so now he could recruit people. He must be doing another website.
Glad you stopped in, are you in to table decorating?

Hi Kathleen,

Truthfully I don't decorate or craft hardly at all, though I faithfully collect patterns AND crafting "ingredients" so that "some day" I will get around to doing them. =)

I did finally this past weekend finish the prototype for an angel, which has been on my "to do" list for nearly four years. In fact, the site that had the general guidelines (but no pattern) is no longer on the web. That's what I get for procrastinating.
