36 inch wide vanity or 32 wide inch tub in hall bath
Comments (13)Don't base your decision on the general dimensions. You need to look at actual tubs and, if possible, sit in them. I had a similar problem to yours in that I wanted no smaller than a 27-28" shower door, which limited the width of the adjoining tub options. After a ton of searching, I finally found a couple of 30" wide tubs that had equally large interior dimensions or felt more spacious inside than others. I ended up going with a Mirabelle Edenton (60"x30"x20") air bath, which was substantially cheaper than the wider Hydrosystems Lacey (and had a larger bottom interior dimension), and more attractive and sturdy feeling than the slightly cheaper Kohler Archer (which seems very tight inside but has good bottom interior dimensions. Anyhow, I'd take a closer look at 30" wide tubs and get the vanity you want. I just posted a video of the Edenton air bath in action if you want to check it out. You can also see other posts I have made regarding it and my remodel if you cannot find it locally (the brand is only sold by Ferguson's and the affiliated Californian equivalent)....See MoreWall Mounted Faucets & counter depth
Comments (7)Thank you enduring! Great post, and made me more comfortable with the idea of an 18" depth. Actually, our vanity will be custom so we could really pick anything between 18 and 21 if we wanted. You mentioned the height of the wall mounted faucets in one of the pics you posted, and I was wondering about that too. The sink I was considering is the Kohler Kelston which is very shallow - not even 5", so I definitley wouldn't want the faucet so high that it would cause splashing. I was thinking that we would do a 12" high backsplash and mount the faucets at 6" (vertically centered). Does that seem about right? I haven't decided on faucets, but would likely go with something similar to the Delta shown in the link below. Here is a link that might be useful: Delta Faucet...See MoreRepositioning Bathtub in 10x6 bathroom
Comments (16)Windows inside showers are drafty and they rot. You'd need to add changing out the window to the many expenses of moving the tub/shower. Do you USE a tub? A lot of people only have one for supposed 'resale to people with small children'. You can see where I'm going with this...lose the tub and make a shower in a portion of the same space. Least plumbing expense would be to put the shower next to the existing sink -- where the plumbing and drain already exist. This would leave space beyond the shower for at least a linen closet -- possibly for a second vanity and sink. (Check the elbow room and consider if two people would ever use this bathroom at the same time.)...See MoreNeeds brains bigger than mine to figure this vanity out :)
Comments (22)Here is my 18" deep vanity. I love the 18" depth, easier to get to the mirror for DH to shave, or for me to see for makeup application. Its only 36" long though. I made the sink, so that is not off the shelf. But there was someone else, several years ago that but in an 18" vanity in a beautifully done bathroom because of space. I don't know if you can bring in wall plumbing for a wall mounted faucet but that would save some space. The thing that I like about my wall mounted faucet is that there is no counter under the handles, where water drips. SO water only drips from the hands into the sink and not on the counter; a little thing but I like it....See Moreineffablespace
