if you were willing to go with smaller sz LG makes one with bottom freezer that get rave reviews on any website I have see it listed...but small...10 cu ft... guess it depends on how many people would be using yours normally and your location to the resupply point... I have been looking for fridge for garage--as overflow and for drinks because we have one in our FL vacation house and have gotten to love it...but my husband thinks it is too small to be practical... I hate the built in fridge (big side/side) that came with house we bought several years ago--can't get the crisper drawers out to clean them and freezer is very limited... he is just not used to thinking outside the box though--so we will likely get a more conventional size eventhough not really what we need... for us--that LG model would likely be the best combo of extra space, small footprint, and cost... it is also energy efficient--has vacation setting... It's funny, a2gemini. I originally was going to buy an Electrolux fridge until I started reading reviews - I remember a miz lizzy in particular. This was a while ago but you get this vision in your head that has water leaking on the soon to be installed hardwood, or a fridge full of food going bad a week after the warranty runs out and you say no way. Then you start to pick other contenders and low and behold they get nasty reviews too. Lol, I think I picked the Bosch partly because I can't find ANY reviews! I do know this. Anything will be better (storage wise, and big/bulky wise than what I have now- which btw is a rebadged electrolux/Frigidaire SxS. One of the things I hate about this one (other than what's mentioned above) are the wire racks in the freezer that keep falling off the rails. And guess what? The bosch has wire baskets too. I haven't seen an elux in a long time but I do remember the drawers in the fridge section were very smooth and easy to pull out. What's the freezer like? I did like the fridge portion of the bosch as well. Oh, and thanks for your post hvtech. It reminded me to call the store and ask who services the appliances and about extended warranties.

Not sure about the "Consistency" of my good friends advice here. First He recommends the SZ, by now most folks know about the copper problems(2004-2007) that contributed to their bottom ranking by Consumer Reports--even one of their marketing guys admitted that. He or another SZ type also said that another reason for the low rating was they had a 2 year warranty, instead of a one year. Now I don't know bout you, but I don't get a "warm fuzzy feeling" knowing that enough SZ's needed warranty work in the 2nd year to contribute to their low reliability ratings. We haven't seen these types of posts recently regarding SZ problems--so--I guess we can assume you feel they corrected the problem/problems and hence you recommend. Take a look at recent posts about Elux Fridges (within the last year or so), most are now positive---so why not "Forgive and forget" like you do with the SZ. I, in fact, had recommended not buying Elux Refrigerators, due to the earlier posts, (alto I'm very happy with my other Elux appliances)----Now I am keeping an open mind, due to some of the imformative posts by the Ladies above! We can learn a lot from these Ladies (Above), if we keep an "Open Mind" Cheers! Gary

We were actually looking at this same Kitchenaid model today. We went back to a local appliance store to take a second look at the Fisher Paykel flush 36" french door fridge. I really like that fridge, but the interior is a bit small, even for us. Then we looked at Kitchenaid again. The SxS actually seemed practical for our needs (household of 2). With the French door, I do like having the flexibility of a wide fridge section, but am not very fond of the freezer bin drawers. I like the thinner depth doors in the Kitchenaid SxS and the door hinge design lets you recess it slightly further into the cabinet area. I don't like the grey plastic grill on the bottom. It looks unfinished. So, I'm still waffling, but the KitchenAid SxS is what I would buy for a SxS. I currently have a Samsung 4 door counter depth that is only about 2.5 years old. It has been reliable and is great except for the horrible icemaker. The ice maker has a horrible design flaw where the gasket design allows the warmer fridge air to leak into the icemaker area, causing the ice to partially melt and jam up the icemaker. We have to chip out the ice about once a week or so and it is getting tiresome (reviews seem to indicate getting it repaired it doesn't fix the issue long term).
