Miele oven owners, are you happy with your choice?

Looks like Miele is one of my top choices for an oven, salespeople go crazy about them and I have been reading some good things here as well.

But I feel I still need to be convinced that it is worth the high price. Searched the forum last night and found a post about cookies coming out flat in the Miele oven.

I am planning to do more baking once we remodel (current oven not great for baking). Can someone who uses Miele share their baking experience?

Also, how is the perfect clean surface? Are you happy with it?

We've been very happy with our 4780BP. That's the 27" self clean. Cookies have come out fine as has the banana bread.
We use it mostly for roasting meats. The probe is handy and the cooling fan is very quiet.

diab123, We went through a very similar decision - we had (and loved) Miele MasterChef Speed Oven, Miele Microwave and Warming Oven. We remodeled and tore out the ancient in-island Chambers electric oven so we needed a 2nd oven (to our beloved speed oven.) We had a hard time justifying the retail price of the Miele over the Electrolux as the Elux is so well liked on GW. And, the MasterChef is even more $ than the Chef model (as you know). However, the dealer (whom we like) had a floor model 30" Chef that we got for an extremely good deal so Miele was the way we went - made it easy. To your questions: Europa and Classic is simply a difference in the handles MasterChef does get you rotisserie MasterChef also gets you Auto Roast which many here like. I believe I read somewhere that the 30" Elux is a little larger than the 30" Mieles All that being said, my DW LOVES the Miele Chef oven: 1) Everything she has made in it has come out wonderfully (I can attest) 2) It (of course) has the wonderful fingerprint resistant stainless which I think is a Miele exclusive and DW LOVES this feature. 3) It matches our other Miele appliances (although not a big deal - now that we have it - it is pretty cool). 4) We did not like (at all) the look of the Elux Wave Touch with the curved handle - this did not seem to bring the "high scale" look we were trying to achieve in our remodel. And, the Miele handles are straight - which means the oven would look different in that manner as well. So, we were limited to the Elux Icon Professional (with a straight handle) at around $2,700. We purchased our (floor model) Miele Chef for less than that so it became a "no brainer" for us. 5) When it is cooking away at 400 degrees it is very quiet and the cabinet sides are not warm at all - the front is also not very warm - can easily touch - it is a high quality unit. DW figured out a little trick since we have the MasterChef speed oven - if DW is uncertain what baking mode to use in the chef oven (this is our first convection oven) she goes to the MasterChef menu on the speed oven and figures it out and then uses that mode in the Chef oven - kinda cool. In our remodel the new oven has been placed on the opposite side of the kitchen from the other Miele appliances so we could have (more easily) lived with another brand oven. However, we are just as happy with the new Miele oven as we are with the Speed Oven. Best of luck - I really think the ELux Icon Professional would be a fantastic oven too - another issue - we could not find an Icon Professional in the entire Denver Metro area that we could even go to look at (I think for the $1,000 difference most people go with the standard ELux oven). Bought our 30" oven and range in January and have never looked back. The oven is still 30x30 and can take full commercial cookie sheets. Everything else I understand takes 1/2 sheets. At the back left of the stove inside is a vent which sometimes causes some lightening of bread and cakes if you are doing larger quantities. A shifting of the pan about 3/4 way through your cooking cycle and you don't see any difference at all. My wife and I love the oven. I don't have the double oven so I can't give you any feed back other than to say I believed it to be a supplemental unit with less capability than the larger oven. That was told to me up front. We didn't have room for the 36" or the 48" so we put in the size we took out. We've done a lot of cookies for us and the neighbor boys, you know bribes for getting things done (it works on 20 year old sons as well). We've never had a batch turn out with mishaps. Just haven't. We've had ours 3 1/2 months now. We are waiting for a newly designed wok-ring. The standard ring doesn't work on the 30" range as it does on the larger models. We'll wait. We haven't been disappointed in any part of our deal yet. Hope this helps some.

Here are the interior dimensions (W x D x H) for my H4082BM: 18" x 15.5" x 8.25" Because the upper broiling element intrudes into that height space, the highest usable vertical height is 7.5" (from oven bottom) or ~7" (on the glass tray), or less. Certainly no problem for a 9" x 13" casserole dish.

A lot of bad info in recent comments... "Speed oven is a type of microwave." No. A speed oven is not at a microwave of any sort. Speed ovens are often combined with a microwave but the speed oven is totally different technology, usually light. Combi Speed/MW have an advantage in being able to use both technologies to produce food that is enjoyable to eat and retains nutritional value. "Microwaves give off radiation, destroys nutrients in food." No. From a purely nutritional standpoint cooking in a microwave is extremely good and preserves nutrients better than most forms of cooking. There are dozens or hundreds of studies on this that you can find online. That said, I don't like the taste and texture of microwaved food. For veggies steaming is nearly equally as good as microwave from a nutritional standpoint but produces more enjoyable food to eat. I also love to roast veggies but roasting does reduce the nutritional value significantly more than steam or MW. ---- From an overall health standpoint, ANY harm from a microwave (and we still don't know if there is or not) is likely far less than that from traditional cooking (induction, gas or electric coil) with a poor range exhaust hood that results in VOC's and Carcinogens spread throughout your house.

Very happy. Excellent oven with everything I need plus. Two of us on here bake a good deal and haven't had any issues with the performance. I find the Perfect Clean to be easier than my previous self-clean. If you do a search on the forum I did a detailed post about it.

Canuck, we've had the oven for about 9 months. I haven't tried the self clean yet.

Cavu and rococogurl, do you have a microwave above your ovens? If you do, which one? I am having trouble finding a good-looking MW to match the Miele.

I have used my double 30" for over a year. Everything from probe for roasting turkey to rotisserie for chickens and baking bread 1 -2 x a week. I too have posted detailed reviews like roccoco girl. You can search and see if they are still around. I hace perfect Clean and have had no problem with it as long as you wipe the oven down after each messy use. But if you don't do that even with self clean the oven will be a mess and stink. If you do high heat roasting or the rotisserie you have to wipe out the oven or self clean immediately after use as it makes a mess.

As far as I am concerned there is no better appliance. I also open the oven door for cool down and it only takes a couple minutes of fan running. Otherwise it does take a while. Not too noisy, no louder obviously than when preheating. Caroline

anna, my micro is under my oven. It's a Sharp/Viking with trim kit. Doesn't match but coordinates. There are many cool micros out there right now.

Both perfect clean and self are available. Self-clean is only sold in No American according to Miele. Everyone else uses Perfect Clean.

Thank you all for the responses.

I have another question. Does anyone have this oven in a traditional style kitchen (think cherry raised panel)? There are two things that still make me doubt - the price tag and whether it will look good in our kitchen.

Cavu, would you be so kind to post the width and depth of the shelf in the 27" model? I haven't been able to find any on display. I am thinking 30" would look to large so I am considering 27".

anna I posted a pic on Home Deorating Forum with my 1890 kitchen . Here is the pic...the Miele oven looks good with anything....sorta like a Gucci bag...class all the way. I have the 30" double with PC.

The dimensions of the racks in the 27" are:
14.5 (d) x 17.75 (w).

I have mine mounted under a counter top, with no microwave nearby.

I have a Wolf 36" all gas as the other oven and the Miele gets the most use for our family of 4.

I prefer the self cleaning vs. perfect clean. Miele is not an inexpensive oven so to have to clean an oven that costs so much just doesn't make sense to me. The self clean works wonderfully! JMHO

I know its been a while since I posted my original question but, in case you are still around, how would you compare the oven in the Wolf AG range with the Miele (I am considering the same combo, also a family of four)? A few people said that the ovens in the 36" gas ranges take a long time to preheat (30-40 min) and also a longer time to cook compare to a smaller oven. Are you finding the same thing? Do you use your large oven a lot, would you get the range again or switch to a rangetop and a 30" miele?
