Hi all.

I have been entered into an unusual contest, in which the winner is awarded on being a messy person. :O who would have thought?!

I know my first question SHOULD be for your cleaning tips and advice (yes, i know, i need a LOT of them.)

My friend took the picture, took a bit of convincing to throw it up for the whole world to see, but it might be a good step to acknowledging I need a good cleaning over-haul or something and the prize would be great for some storage solutions!

I don't want to hijack Elizabeth's thread, but I am going through the same, only have a much worse problem. My projects get really big, and I realize that in the past the boxes or baskets I have used haven't been deep enough. I was a The Old Time Pottery last weekend, - they've got a number of stores in Atlanta and I don't know if they are elsewhere. They were selling "lingerie chests" with drawers that are about the size needed for 8.5 x 11 papers, or folded legal size paper. So I bought the only 2 they had (one was their floor sample, already assembled!) and have started sticking projects in that. I have already realized I'll probably need paperweights to keep the larger piles from getting out of control and sticking so the drawers can't open. The chest is about 45" high, and the drawers look square - I would say about 14" x 14". I am planning on using these drawers and maybe if I need them some boxes. I've tried baskets before, and realize that one reason they don't work for me is that they are so heavily textured that the papers get caught by the woven strips, or it's uncomfortable for me to stick my hands in. So far, I've scoooped up the project piles on my morning room table, which serves as a desk. As long as the drawers remain easy to open (i.e., good, lasting construction of cheap furniture, as well as controlling the piles by dividing into sub-projects, if needed), this might work for me.

It's too confusing for me....I think all the rugs seem to go much better with the carpet color in the room pictures---which you say is not representative--- instead of your actual background sample. It is hard not to choose based on the "wrong" color in your collage. but it looks like the rugs are all very similar in color and composition, so if you like them all I am sure the one you pick will go as well as any other. Miracx, I am so sorry for your loss. I agree there is no downside to going-- I'd also likely send aa card and contribute to the family. It's a terrible thing to bury a child-- no matter the age-- and for a young family to lose a father/husband. I disagree with this statement: "I understand your dilemma. Your hesitation stems from the fact that you learned about this second hand. You are not connected enough to have learned about it from the family. I get how you are feeling." I think the expectation for the message to be relayed personally is exceptionally out of bounds. The family is grieving and tending to one another's needs-- which is exactly what they should be doing. Please don't think personal contact or invitation is required.

Glad this turned out well Glenda. —-It’s so much more than gun laws in smaller countries. It’s how criminals there, are not coddled and babied like they have no responsibility for their actions. In reality, not counting the crime infested inner cities, taking out suicides, accidents and such, the USA is average to better when it comes to gun altercations. But of course gun statistics ball up all the variables. Still when it’s you sitting next to a crazy person, they are not thinking about laws. I have been through training and background checking when I bought a gun. Picked it up after 35 days. Not planning on being irresponsible and losing my rights. I would definitely use it to defend you or my family.

Those photos are dsitrubing to me. The one of "mum's kitchen" left me feeling that what mum needs is some medication/therapy and not a $5,000 gift card to Ikea. Seriously. Certainly there is some mental illness in people living in squalor and filth.

I agree with dgmarie.

Isn't this really advertising, since there is a $5,000 prize for the winner, and you want us to vote for you? Seriously, there were some rooms MUCH worse than what you posted, and I KNOW that an IKEA makeover will not fix any of them.

I agree advertising a messy room is not the best impression to give. lol actually its quite embarrassing to say the least.

But that's just the name of the competition, displaying a mess for a chance at a great prize. Just a different type of advertising for them... i see why some would think it's not the best idea... but i think it's just a bit of fun. :)

I would go absolutely crazy living like these people do. I should remember this messy site for when I feel that my house is messy.... My worst messy house is much, much neater than most of these pictures.

And for parents who are posting pictures of rooms belonging to obviously young children - shame on them. A six year old cannot be held accountable for too much "stuff" and "junk" and not enough storage or supervision.

I looked at some of those pics, yes they were very disturbing to me as well. How could somebody live like this? Now I have a question.......is this messiness or just LAZINESS? A shrink would have a field day with some of these people!

Oh my God! I'm no neatnik but these are repulsive on so many levels. It seems people will go public with anything these days if there is a prize or notariety involved. You would think they'd be humiliated.

Forget the Ikea. What these people need is a dumpster and a good dose of "getoffyourlazya$$". Sandy (who usually doesn't talk this way)
