How do I tile a cabinet's side for wall mounted tub filler?
Comments (6)Thanks Catbuilder & Billl! I didn't think it could be too hard. Now I think I can start making tile designs for the spot. My carpenter that I have a bid from said he would build it in place. But I haven't talked to him about my wish to put tile on the surface of one side. I like the idea of facing it with cement board. Question: 1. I want this area to shed water so which would be best for a DYI, hydroban or kerdie? I will be either using hydroban or kerdie on the tile surround on my alcove so would like to use the same on this cabinet....See MoreLarge (soaking) tub with shower? Advice please.
Comments (4)Hi szruns. From what I've learned it's almost never wise to disregard the manufacturer's directions regarding your concern. Here's some info on tubs from gardenweb to get you started. A lot of it is still current. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/bath/msg1201101028412.html I'd suggest you do a search on this site - you'll find lots of other useful info on tubs, including some on the kind of tub you're looking for. I did that kind of research when I was remodeling and found it very helpful...See MoreWaterproofing tub inside shower stall
Comments (30)Hello! I just found this very helpful thread in my search for for ideas/caveats for installing an alcove tub in a wet room/shower enclosure (total enclosure dimensions are 5'6" x 5'0", so the tub could be placed on either wall depending on tub length). This is for a guest bathroom which will be used by guests of all ages, including our ageing parents. My mother in law only takes baths, but father in law only showers and has mobility issues so we want to avoid him having to step into a tub to shower. We want to avoid blowing the budget on the tub itself, so want to avoid cast iron (due to cost and weight), and limited space won't allow for the added width of a tub deck for an undermount/drop-in tub. I did come across the American Standard Studio fold over edge acrylic/fiberglass alcove tub (photo attached), which seems like a decent option to allow us to tile the front apron, but it only comes in 60" x 30" (which is OK, but it would be nice to know if there are any workable 5'6" tubs we could consider). As this thread is 3 years old, I'm wondering what the latest recommendations are for the type of tub to use in a wet room and how to waterproof it. Any ideas appreciated!...See MoreDeciding how to fit tub and shower along 9' wall
Comments (20)Thanks. He is putting a walk in tub in his permanent residence here locally for my Mom and himself. Since this is a family vacation / sometimes rental home, he doesn't want to do that up there. I think I am going to be able to convince him to get rid of the tub and install a large shower with a bench, and a linen cabinet next to it. Thanks for all your feedback. I will probably be starting several threads over the next several weeks because he turned it all over to us, and the contractor is starting demo July 20. My sister and I have selected all the materials (this is a whole house remodel): flooring, kitchen and bath counters, cabinets, back splashes, shower tile, etc. I'm going to talk to him about deleting the tub tomorrow. I have been asked by the family to be the "chief of staff and communications director", my DS is the "cabinet secretary of design, organization and shopping." The secretary of design, organization and shopping is going up to the house next week with her DH to choose stack-stone for rocking the 2 fireplaces and cleaning out the house, tossing/donating to get it ready for demo....See Morealina_1
