GE Monogram oven feed-back

After months of looking for a gas cook-top and an electric wall oven, we finally decided to buy a duel fuel range to simplfy the installation and lower the cost. The GE Monogram really had so many features i.e. roller racks, self clean, high output burners, that we decided not to get the Wolf or similar brand. Any pros or cons would be most appreciated.

This is not a comment about a range, but about a wall oven...But I'm assuming the engineering is the same for the range oven.

I was SO glad to sell back my GE Monogram oven to GE. The roller racks are great in some ways, but are really bulky and severely limit rack position options. The oven adjusts only in 25 degree increments. The ovens don't always get all the way to temp, and don't maintain it...If you check the 'real time temperature,' and it's low the oven will turn the preheat mode on to adjust or recover temps...It's made to do this, but results in overbrowned baked goods. I ended up with 2 oven thermometers to figure out what the temps were doing, and the temps varied greatly from one side of the oven to another.

I would absolutely run from a Monogram oven...Sorry.

I had never seen a "Psycadellic Pizza" until your "Former GE Oven" turned out that "Master piece" errr I mean "Master Pizzzzzaaahhhhhhh".

I would choose Bosch over the Monogram I was very glad to sell back to GE. It was 'working right' according to how it was engineered. In short, the downsides: Very few rack positions. Can only adjust the temp in 25 degree increments. If you adjust or check the real time temp and the oven temp is lower than set (which it ALWAYS was), it turns on the preheat mode and burns your baked goods. Both Cotehele and I put 2 oven thermometers in our ovens and got 25 -100 degree variations from one side of the oven to the other. Unfortunately, GE won't buy hers back. I was lucky. I suggest you also look at Fisher and Paykel. I had trouble with lack of service for F&P in my area, so when I had problems with the porcelain (not a complaint I've seen others have with that brand, so apparently not a typical problem), they bought back the ovens...but they were EXCELLENT bakers. I have Wolf now and where I can see some advantages to the Wolf, I wouldn't be sad to have the F&P performance again. I sure wished I'd patched the porcelain and kept the F&P instead of taking chances with the hated Monogram. I'd check DCS, too...I'm not sure how they compare, pricewise, to Monogram, but they are made by F&P, also. I prefer their look to the new F&P styling.

I loved the looks of the Thermador Pro, but the price tag with their repair reputation scared me away. (Actually, the price was enough) I also like knobs. I've had previous aggravations with touch panels, and also don't like the fingerprint aspect. --I'm obviously not keeping up with the Johnsons! LOL :-) I was surprised at the comment about the slide out racks not adjusting in the Electrolux, because I'm pretty sure they can... Regular Electrolux or ICON? One thing that steered me away from the Electrolux ovens was the interior depth...Less than Monogram and others I was considering. It depends on how much you put in the oven and what size pans you use if this is an issue that could influence your decision. All that said, I have the Monogram ZET2PMSS. The racks are wonderful EXCEPT that they take up so much room, there are fewer rack positions than with other ovens. I don't like to use the bottom position, as things tend to get too brown for my taste when there, so if you want to use 2 racks at a time, then the top one gets so high that there can be overbrowning on the top of that rack's contents. The other thing you should know about the Monograms: They use the fan to regulate temp, so when on any of the convection modes, the fan occasionally turns off, instead of being on all the time, and when on Bake, when you don't expect any forced air movement, they might come on to help bring the temp back up. This was a surprise to me, and not always the best for whatever I'm baking. Also, I'm not sure about the Thermador or Electrolux, but the Monogram only adjusts in 25 degree increments. That wouldn't bother a lot of people, but I like the ability to fine tune things a bit more to suit how things are cooking. --We bake ALL the time in our house (a couple times a day is normal), and I because of previous experience with a wonderfully-performing oven, am oven-picky. The things that bother me may not bother you. HOLY COW BATMAN! If you can Miele ovens at that price I would never look back. Where did you find those prices? I am planning on buying the Miele so I can't give you an first hand advice since I don't have them installed yet. There are quite a few threads here about both of those brands and particular ovens. Check out the search function at the bottom and you'll find lots of info. Probably more than you want to take the time to read!! Buying appliances has been quite an education for me! fenworth, We've made the TJ cookies tons of times at home using a GE Profile oven (as stated in my original post). We also made them in a Wolf oven at a Wolf center. In both the GE and the Wolf, the cookies come out fairly "normal", even when the dough is completely defrosted (which is not recommended). We did return to Miele, used a different oven in the store, and got the same flatter-than-flat cookies, even with a TJ box that was bought 15 minutes before entering the Miele store. I can't say whether or not the grease filter was installed during cookie baking - as a newbie to the Miele oven, that's not something I would have been aware of (I kind of hope the people working at the Miele center know how to use their own ovens.) Maybe it's this particular Miele store installation, or this particular cookie dough recipe, but there's definitely something different about the way the Miele ovens we've tried bake these cookies.

I have the monogram (year old) and love it! I don't bake as extensively as rhome, but that is it's primary purpose. All of my baked goods have been evenly browned, even with 2 sets of muffin tins crammed in next to each other, without rotating.... Everything has risen evenly. I recently baked bread and baked the 2 loaves front to back in the oven, and they came out perfectly matched. A friend just got the same oven, and she loves the even browning as well.

Glad you have one you love, Niffy. Others who have loved theirs used them mostly for roasting meats, cooking casseroles, frozen foods, etc., which it seems to handle pretty well, and only used them occasionally for baking. Yours is a different story.

Cotehele is another prolific baker and Monogram dbl oven owner who participates on this forum and has had identical problems to mine. Her pictures of unevenly baked cookies, experiences with inconsistency, and emails outlining her difficulties and frustration were used as support in my dealings with GE. Unfortunately, it didn't help her, because even though we both pushed for them to buy back her oven as well, they wouldn't do the same for her that they did for me. So she's stuck with uneven baking and an oven she has to constantly babysit in order to make sure the temps are staying up where she set them.

I"m very happy with my GE monogram oven, but I don't do a lot of baking. So it really depends upon your needs and interests.
