Just wanted to chime in on this one. Fisher Paykel I believe still holds the patent on the dish drawers. Any other brand you find that has drawers will be a relabel FP. Also I have the double stacked drawer model. I bought it about three years ago due to a fridge and DW issue. If these units are installed correctly they tend to have no issues. Ours was taken out of the kitchen and then reinstalled recently with our kitchen remodel. It works flawlessly everytime. You can put just about anything in it and it cleans extremely well. I was the one to install the DW both times. The second time was due to the plumber and contractor not being familiar with them.

I have the F&P DD24DCHTX6, it has a tall drawer on top and a regular one on the bottom. I think it's great; no splashing, no open door to block traffic or bash in your shins again. Like Bireland it took awhile to learn how to load it. Unlike Bmorepanic I've found the cleaning to be great. Some things are much cleaner than ever before. Tea strainers etc. very nice. Coffee and tea stains never on mugs anymore. Tired old wineglasses so sparkly. For the first little while I tested it daily with incrementally cruddy pots and plates and it always got them clean. Like Kimkitchy, if I could do it over again I would put a single drawer on either side of the sink. I love not having to bend over at all to load or unload the top drawer which I use most of the time. I live alone but I cook & bake all the time and there are always lots of dishes. If I could do one on either side of the sink I'd select a tall single and a regular one and put pot drawers underneath them. Others have mentioned how useful the 2nd drawer is for loading when the first one is already full or running. I do that as well but also love it for a drain-board for hand-washed items. No stupid ugly rack on the countertop. With regard to the noise I think they are very quiet and friends have commented on just how quiet. There is some sound but it's not annoying at all. Silly to admit but I wait until bedtime to put them on because then, when the house is completely quiet, you can hear them and I like the lulling swishing as I drift off to sleep.

My kitchen and bath renovations are scheduled to begin tomorrow. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight! I, too, have a small kitchen and I live alone, so I opted for the Bosch 18-inch dishwasher. I preferred the conventional-type dishwasher thinking that I'd have an easier time fitting tall items. Turns out the 18-inch panel-ready is quite a bit more costly than a standard model, about $850. I treated myself and made room for a 12-inch wide undercounter wine fridge. Mine is a Danby, and I think it was $650. I'm pretty sure beverage cans will fit as well as the regular bottles of Champagne, but the larger bottles might be an issue. All the more reason to drink them quickly! Also a splurge was the Liebherr 24-inch wide refrigerator, but it makes sense in my pretty small kitchen. The narrow refrigerator allowed me to get a 21-inch wide full height pantry -- and, yes, it's made out of an upper cabinet with 3 or 4 rollout shelves and a lower cabinet with a narrow drawer and two deep drawers. I do plan to be here for the long run and since this isn't really a family-size apartment, I'm not too concerned about resale value. I just wanted what suits me! Good luck!

There is a recent thread discussing MW drawers and how much "filler", how it's placed, etc. First, I would definitely not want our MW drawer any lower than it is...ours is in the "top drawer" position (and middle drawer, for that matter) with a single deep drawer underneath. Any lower would be much too low. Yes, there's "filler" b/w the top of the cabinet and the top of the MW drawer control panel. But I think it's there to give you better view of/access to the control panel. If it were mounted right up against the top of the cabinet it would be directly under and against the counter overhang and that would make it more difficult to access the controls. Our MW drawer is 1-7/8" from the top of the cabinet and the bottom of the MW is 1-3/8" from the top of the drawer space below it.
