Barbara, That's a great suggestion -- I NEVER would have thought of that! I'm hoping to have some things moved out of our guestroom by tomorrow -- the window is stuck behind some stuff stored in there -- so maybe I can get started on it. I had it hanging in my dining room with a swag of silk magnolia blossoms and euclyptus, creamy strings of pearls and tassels, and 3 terra cotta cherubs dangling down in front of the mirror along with the pearls and tassels and it was lovely. When I decided we really could make the arched window work for us, I sold the swag on eBay. Then before we put up the Christmas tree I got hubby to move an antique toolbox that holds two stuffed pheasants with long tail feathers and some peacock feathers and pinecones from another part of the wall, and it is now in place so that when the window is hung the toolbox will look like a window box at the base of the arch. I hope they looks as compatible together as I think they will, Thanks agaim, for all the tips -- I'll probably need both the paint remover And the razor blades to get to all the crevices!! Rose

Oh no....I was afraid itd be something like that...im glad I only tested in a very small end spot of design so as to not be noticeable should the attempt backfire...how very disapointing...it's hard enough finding a set of vintage lamps like that together and in the process of doing so not being forced to pay an arm and a leg to aquire them....but now it looks like I won't even get to keep them...as im looking for glass without any such design...damn. Thank you so much for answering my question though-this info is very much appreciated. T

laurenjean and paintguy- It''s true that lacquer thinner is a powerful solvent, but 1: If the marble is sealed, all the overspray should be on top of the sealer and the razor blade should remove all of it overspray, making a wipe with lacquer thinner unnecessary. 2. If there is no sealer, a wipe with lacquer thinner shouldn't hurt marble. (Marble is typically damaged by acid compounds, like lemon juice, or alkalis, like drain cleaner. If one has concerns, you could test the thinner on a marble scrap or a small unnoticeable area. However, if it's real marble, and not some man-made composite, there should not be an issue.) 3, Sealer can be reapplied in any case...it's not like trying to match a stain.

Thanks, All! These are the only images I have for the moment. It’s a 3.5 hour drive, but I‘m headed back on Monday, so I could provide better pictures then. Additionally, the original laminate appears to be a bright, fake teal marble, so I‘m trying to make it so I can re-paint the surface using appropriate materials (a laminate kit) without making the situation worse. This is a misleading photo from the realtor listing. Just looks like a solid gray: This is what it actually looks like:
