I love it Too Much! I have been trying to figure out ways to avoid drilling too. As much stained glass work as I do, I can't believe I didn't think of this idea before! I am so glad that you shared this! Soldering like this is easy guys! You have to get a soldering iron and the lead. You just have to hold the soldering iron to the lead and hold the lead solder to the iron until it heats up enough to melt it...Oh don't forget to put a little flux on before you do it...and it will do the rest for you...the rings you can make yourself by wrapping the tinned wire...get it the same place you get your lead came, solder and soldering iron...at a stained glass supplier. Wrap the wire around something that is round and the size you want your rings as many times as the number of rings you want. Then cut with wire cutters and you will have rings. Put the open place on the ring where you are soldering it to the plate and it will close the ring up so nothing can slip through the little slot. Sorry for jumping in to answer the questions for you Too Much. I just wanted everyone to have as much fun as we have doing things like this....and save them the drilling too!

We have a 4 y.o. Miele Incognito. The silverware tray makes it much easier to load IMO and is handy also for sink mats, small gadgets, sponges, scrubbers, Cuisinart discs, bottle caps, container tops etc. All those are thrown on where they fit around silverware. The tray holds way more silverware than a conventional basket by far. That's the main reason I will now buy a second Miele, this time an Optima. I'm looking at that because I don't need the complexities or expense of La Perla. Optima has a redesigned second basket now more friendly to bowls and mugs, a Turbo wash that's quicker than other cycles, the china/crystal cycle that I need and seems ideal for my purposes. No need for me to consider another brand but Bosch is also excellent, quiet and certainly less than La Perla though not necessarily that much less than other Mieles. You'd do well with either. If I decided not to go with Miele I'd look at Bosch and likely at F&P dish drawers.

regarding the frameless/inset question: Our cabinets are frameless. We used the Lee Valley drawer insert makers to make a custom flatware holder. These are much taller (3.5 inches) than a typical flatware organizer, so we have just filled it up with lots of flatware. We have service for 32 in ours, which we love. We never run out of flatware, even with a large group. We moved our flatware drawer from the end of the peninsula close to the eating area to a drawer next to the DW when we remodelled. We much prefer the new location, but it all depends on your kitchen layout and how you and your family operate in the kitchen. My kitchen is small (hence, the frameless cabinets) and my cleaning and prep zones overlap (sink, DW, drawers with flatware and utensils, corner cab, range - we prep between the range and sink). Both our old and new DWs had easy to grab silverware baskets. My teenage DS empties the DW, and moving the flatware drawer was one of his few requests with the remodel (surprisingly, he actually had good input!). It is much easier to put the flatware away in the new location. When I empty it (he has a tricky way of being busy/unavailable when the DW needs unloading...) I still pull out the basket and set it on the counter so I don't have to bend over. There are usually some non-flatware pieces in the basket (measuring spoons, small spatulas, small whisks, etc), and it is really nice to have the cooking utensils co-located with the flatware. I also find that I use quite a bit of flatware while prepping and cooking, so it's nice to have it nearby. The table setting thing that others are talking about got me thinking. I always set the table myself while I have some down-time during cooking. I think I do it that way because my dish storage is above where I prep and in the way of cooking, so I don't want to invite anyone into the kitchen when I'm cooking. We know that you like how these look. Do you like how they feel in your hands? These are very trendy. That means they won't be around several years from now when you need to replace the piece that some fool bent in the garbage disposal. Will you have moved on to something else by then or do you need to buy an extra set now? I'm really picky about how utensils feel on the lips and tongue, but I know that's probably a little out there! Prices: You can buy a 5-piece place setting of sterling at Replacements for $200 up. With daily use almost any sterling will outlive modern stainless, but the patterns tend to be traditional. A 5-piece place setting of Onieda's better flatware is in the $40 to $70 range. The pattern you like is by Cutipol. Goa (gold and white) is $90 at ABC carpet and home in NY. It's on backorder. Crate & Barrel has Aero (black and stainless or all stainless) for $60.
