-they're expensive. well made in Portugal plus new equals expensive. I guess. I bet you can find silverware in vintage stores..but will be a) vintage (cool to some people, not so cool for others) and b) won't be these colors

-you need to hold them to see whether you like them enough. weight etc. important. very lightweight flatware irritates me for example(we have a mumbo jumbo of stuff which also irritates me lol-since when we have guests we have to mix which could be very interesting, if they were of same quality. they're not. )

you also need to know whether you like the shape. very personal. as much as I love colors here-spoons are too rounded for me. Everyone and his preferences

-so I'd order them and see. If you have Anthro store nearby you can return with less hassle.

I wouldn't pay that much per service but what is an acceptable amount to pay varies person to person. I agree with jn3344 that the round handles are a no. There is a reason that most silverware is shaped the way it is. Keep looking.

April, I love the colors and shapes but I dont know if I want to deal with returning them. I am tempted though...

Always good to actually feel the silverware in your hand. it is lovely though, but I agree it would be difficult to use.

My first thought was that those thin handles would be very uncomfortable to use for an entire meal. I’ve used something similar years ago at a dinner party. They were not user friendly with anyone that I could discern.

rockybird I'm so relaxed about returning stuff to Anthro because my husband's workplace is 5 min drive from their local store)) And he loves returning stuff))) But if a hassle-I don't know..these, I personally wouldn't order because I already know it's not my preferred shape. If you know it will most likely work for you-that's something else

(by the way I get most scared and hesitant when I need to buy flatware and especially knives. Hesitant to spen money, hesitant to make a mistake..

Once I ordered a knife after long contemplation and then they write to me "sorry actually it's sold out" (wasn't Anthro)

I agree with what everyone else has said about the thin handles and the shape of the spoons. Not for long term use or comfort in my view. The color is ok but I think with all your other bright primary colors it would seem somwhat lost. By the price for a set, do you mean for a place setting? If so, that seems a bit high to me for some reason but it’s been a while since I have bought mine. I have an old Gorham pattern, more traditional, but it’s well made, well balanced and comfortable to hold. You should be able to find a modern look in Dansk or another line that appeals.

April- LOL not really afraid to return because I just ordered a BUNCH of stuff at their online sale and I am SURE I will have to return some. I also bought some italian sneakers with stars on them and they went on sale afterwards. I took them back to Anthro. (Still in the package) and they refunded the difference - it was quite a bit! I just dont know that I like the silverwear enough to order and go through the hassle.

Another reason to not go with skinny handles- they will fall through the holes in the bottom of the dishwasher basket, assuming you can put them in the dishwasher. I bought some vintage stainless flatware with skinny handles and it’s lovely but it has to go into the basket upside down.

I don't care much for function. They are gorgeous. I would at least get them and see. Then serve finger foods. : )

Jinn is right--although I'm not sure those look dishwasher proof anyway. I have some 50s flatware and it is only a bit pointy and can fall through the dishwasher cutlery basket. (On the other hand, it's beautifully balanced in the hand and I'm not giving it up.)

Those are awfully appealing though! You might have to try them out.

We know that you like how these look. Do you like how they feel in your hands? These are very trendy. That means they won't be around several years from now when you need to replace the piece that some fool bent in the garbage disposal. Will you have moved on to something else by then or do you need to buy an extra set now? I'm really picky about how utensils feel on the lips and tongue, but I know that's probably a little out there!

Prices: You can buy a 5-piece place setting of sterling at Replacements for $200 up. With daily use almost any sterling will outlive modern stainless, but the patterns tend to be traditional. A 5-piece place setting of Onieda's better flatware is in the $40 to $70 range. The pattern you like is by Cutipol. Goa (gold and white) is $90 at ABC carpet and home in NY. It's on backorder. Crate & Barrel has Aero (black and stainless or all stainless) for $60.

I have the same exact Cutipol flatware that I bought in London (Harrods) 2 years ago. The only difference is that my set is white, not pink. They are beautiful and well made, but we only use them a few times a year for holiday dinners. I have no problem with the shape or the way they feel in my hands, they are not uncomfortable to hold. That said, I don’t think I would want to use them for everyday flatware. They are very light and not really hefty enough for constant use, if that makes sense. Also, I hand-wash them and would not recommend putting them in the dishwasher. It’s fine for a special meal, but I would not want to deal with that daily. The rounded spoons are cool for occasional use, but not practical for every meal. It’s a great set, just not for primary use.
