Why does it interfere with taking a bath? I find having to fuss with moving the shower curtain liner and curtain out of the tub and out of my way when I want to take a bath a pain. I also feel like there's more room without the curtain being in the way. And we're in this house for life, so resale isn't an issue for me. I did consider getting rid of the tub altogether, but I do like to take a bath now and then and so does my daughter and since it is the only bath (for now) I decided to keep it.

My almost finished main/guest bathroom remodel used to have a standard bath tub with a sliding frosted glass shower door. I hated that thing. Whenever I wanted to take a bath, I felt claustrophobic (even though I'm not). And getting in and out was oddly uncomfortable, even though the opening was plenty large. The only thing I liked about the shower door was being able to lock the dog in when I needed to give her a bath. I could also see the doors as being good splash-prevention if you had children showering.

One other thing to consider is your selection of a swing-open door vs. slider. Using a swing-open type door will mean that the door will be closed while taking a bath. For me, that would be uncomfortable. I like to be able to rest my arms on the sides of the tub (to relax) and the door would be in the way.

Personally, I would not want to have a glass door on a bath tub ever again. I would suggest you do a test-drive of some sort. Perhaps try bathing with the shower curtain closed or even putting up "doors" of cardboard or some other material to simulate the feeling of having actual doors. Maybe it will work better for you than it did for me.

Sliding door options for your bathtub renovation are many. there is a ton of framed kits and big box basic looks. Frameless fixed panels and doors are cutom work and any good glass installer can measure and quote this for you.

These glass panels and doors need to be tempered and the door needs to swing both in and out to meet code here in Vancouver. Make sure you factor in door swing when laying out plumbing fixture placement.

Your glazing contractor or glass showroom should have samples of privacy glass. I just meet with Fleurco a couple of days ago and they have a few nice options.

There are nice options for both sliding doors and hinged doors. Wilson Glass has a good website and they can help you identify what you need. I would probably lean towards 3/8" starfire glass with a top slider. I've purchased two doors from Wilson and installed them myself. Quite a simple install.

I am redoing a bathroom too and thinking about installing a glass shower screen. I've seen these throughout Europe and they are quite lovely. I imagine they are also easy to clean since there are no tracks.

I just came from Europe and hated those glass partitions. They got water on the floor all the time.
