Karen had spotted a little block snowman while browsing the net and shared a pic with me. So I decided he looked pretty simple and I should make one too. Thought you might like to see him too. Luvs

-Renee, yep! An heirloom columbine and Geranium macrorrhizum ;-) -Mary Lu, that is indeed rhubarb. I have already made a few crisps from it this spring. Yum! -Susan, correct! That is 'Fireball' Geum, one of the bigger cultivars. It is only one plant- looks like more since the stems on this fellow have a habit of leaning, lol. -serenae, would love to see pics of the arbor you built sometime!! -mandolls and Lynne, thank you! Jane, don't listen to him! If you have ever used a sewing machine, then cutting wood pieces will be easy for you. You just trace the outside line of your pattern onto the wood and then feed it into the saw and follow the line just like when you are sewing. And remember, it won't cut unless you push it against the blade, so you can pause anytime to want and don't have to feel rushed at all. I use a scroll saw and prefer either 3/4 inch soft pine or for thin things like this, I prefer the Baltic Birch plywood sheets. I say "prefer" because I will use any scrap of wood I can get my hands on! ;o) And now with all the scrapbooking pages, even if you don't paint, you can create a neat item for your decor. Just cut a shape, spread Mod Podge on it, then press on a pretty sheet of paper, trim the edges, and add a design or letters. I've seen some really neat word blocks recently on some of the blogs. Women CAN use POWER tools! ;o) Glad all of you liked it. OA, I can't take credit for the little tattoo. It was already part of the design from Juliette Martin. I have a few of her books and she does some darling designs. I often hesitate to do her designs because there are so many little details and I usually like quick & easy! Painting is like most other things, the more you do it, the easier it is. So yes, I was feeling a bit rusty-- struggling more with the small detail items especially and some of my outlines are thicker than I'd like. But overall, it's okay, and lots more fun and durable than just buying a paper decoration at Michael's. ;o) Luvs

Yes, I have pictures of all the lights that I make. The 'personalized memory lights' are people's favorite picture memories, past or present. Most of them are favorite memories of family pictures, grandchildren, grandparents, best friends, favorite pet, wedding day, anniversaries, birthdays, baby announcements, graduations, any occasion!! Some have them made from old black & white photos too! In the spring time I am going to start taking sepia or vintage photos of people on our old wagon, then use that picture and make them a 'Memory Light'. Where do you live? Maybe we could exchange e-mail addresses?? I really don't want to post them on here. And I don't know how to post a picture on here either. Maybe you can help me with that. Yes, PG, we seem to do that allot. Since I live in California and am in the Pacific time zone, some of you are an hour or in PF's case even three hours ahead of me, so I'm often the last one to see a post on here! Today we are in Laughlin, Nevada visiting friends. It is cool but the air is so clear and the full moon looked so huge last night out here with no city lights competing with it! We hadn't seen these friends for a few years, so we all talked and talked and talked over dinner last night! Tomorrow we will visit another couple in Lake Havasu, and then on to Phoenix, Ariz. to meet up with a new friend there. It is a nice break from the normal routine at home. So far, I've found some bargain christmas plates and a few new craft books. Will be going to a big antique mall in Phoenix, so hope to find some treasures there too. I have some items with me that I can paint on, but so far haven't really had time to break them out and work on them! I like to bring them along just in case I do have some free time. When I get home, I plan to follow Anj's example and sit aside at least one day a week to paint. I can probably do more than that if I just decide on some projects I want to do and get the wood piece or item ready to go. That's what always takes me the longest. I'm still amazed at how many projects you are getting painted and you are working too! I imagine the painting is your "relaxation". I used to use it that way to when I worked, it was good stress relief and I often thought through many problems and found solutions while painting. Keep these wonderful projects coming, I'm sure enjoying seeing them. Luvs

Oh I'm so glad you made one of these! He's adorable.
Gosh, I could even paint this (says She who can barely paint walls without wearing half of it). Its going on my Too Long to Do List for next season. I LUVS him!

Luvs, your little block snowman is darling. Love the polka dot hat and the scarf tops it off. It would be easy to make a Mr and Mrs just by changing the colors on it.

I need to get busy and paint for the benefit next month and this might be one I do if you don't mind. Would you also be willing to share the sizes of your parts?

Frou, I'm sure painting the utility room isn't as fun.

I like Punk's idea of making a Mr. and Mrs. Block.

I've saved the picture so I can remember the way you did the face in case I need a snowman face in the future.

What a darling snowman, Luvs! You do such wonderful work. I especially like that he doesn't look like a hold over Christmas dec. He's perfect for all of Winter!

Punk, I'll get some measurements posted for you later today, okay? He was a great way to use up an old 2x4. You know I don't mind if you use the idea--that's exactly what I did! ;o)

You are all right--he probably does need a Mrs. I can picture her now--rounded corners for the hat brim, a red (or purple) hat maybe with some holly and berries glued on, and some red beads in place of the scarf. Oh, and cute little heart shaped lips! LOL

Jeanne, I loved your play on words! You are so funny. Let me tell you, these piles of wood do get a bit heavy--I was surprised at the weight of him!

Jane, don't you think the word for this little guys expression is "hopeful"? That's what I see when I look at his face--maybe he's hoping that he won't melt too quickly here in the California sunshine! LOL

If I wanted any more snowmen, it would be him! I love his dotted hat.
But as you know, we are 2 ft deep in snow and more on the way, so put some shorts and sunglasses on the Mrs.! :)

He's very cute! The hat with white on it looks like snow flakes coming down(I have a wild imagination!) I made a paver 1 for myself before Christmas & I used multicolor fleece for hat & scarf so it would be for winter & not just xmas. Made GF 1 similar to mine & she put it in her bay window so he greets anyone coming up to her door. She says it has brought a lot of smiles to her door! Something about a snowman that gets to us! Maybe remembering "Frosty the Snowman" story & song. Hope you have another 2x4 as he does need a mate!Oh, I have 10 large daffodils blooming,our weather is confused too & supposed to almost freeze tonight so that will do them in. Jan

Thought I'd quickly post these measurements before I get busy cleaning ceiling fans--my project of the day! LOL

Bottom block 6"
Middle block 5"
Face and neck blocks 4"
Top hat piece 3 1/2 wide by 3" high
Hat brim is 4"x 6" if 1/2" board

Since I just looked at a picture, I just made up my own sizes and used boards I had on hand.

I'd love to see lots of versions of this snowman--even different colored scarfs would make a difference.

Sunny, I've painted some of those blocks, but not a snowman yet. Old winter neck scarfs cut up make great scarfs for them, but so does an old colored sock--just depends on the look you want. I used some ribbon on this one just because it had Christmas colors in it.

oh I love this little guy - just showed him to my hubby. We have tons of wood scrapes in the garage (I tell him to never throw any away - lol ). I am going to file yet another idea away for gifts for next year - TFS all the info .....

Thanks for all the measurements, Luvs. I'm hoping to get some started this weekend if the weather warms up. DH goes out and warms up the shop most weekends so I'm sure he would do some cutting for me.

Who knows we may end up with a whole Snow Family.lol I would love to see alot of different versions and colors used on this project too.
