Yesterday I stopped in Goodwill to drop some clothes off, and boy did I hit the jackpot. LOL. And today I went to Tues. Morning to see what they had.

Sure made for a great start to the New Year! LOL

This platter is 18" long and very heavy. Its in new condition, made in Portugal, and I found it at Goodwill for $8.

I found these, on clearance, at Tuesday Morning. The weird looking ceramic pumpkin is oblong instead of round. They only had one of the pumpkin bowls unfortunately, or I'd have bought a couple.

Red Mercury Candleholders that I got at Tuesday Morning, after Xmas sale of 50% off. The taller one is 14"high and the other one is 11". The tops have a mirror finish. I paid $12 for the both of them.

I just can't resist pretty glass pieces, for inside or outside. And finding these two at Goodwill had me ecstatic! I paid $7 for the PURPLE and green vase, its 16" high and VERY heavy glass. The pedestal dish was $5, its 14" across. Both would be beautiful in the sun, in my garden, but I think these might be staying in the house.

What great stuff! I haven't started my rounds for the New Year yet, but these things are giving me the shopping itch. I really love the purple/green vase. I would use it for paperwhite narcissus...or pussy willow...

Too bad they didn't have more pumpkin bowls. That is one thing on MY list...never would have thought about them but for the wonderful table settings on this forum. Good job on all your purchases, and for being an inspiration for all us bargain hunters!

I posted something similar to this in the Garden Forum section. Was not at home for the weekend and spent yesterday morning taking a new puppy to the vet and then I locked myself inside determined to take the Christmas tree down. I sweated it out and it's down and out for the year. Next weekend I hope to have decent weather and enjoy the days outside but I need to get the bedroom straightened up, it's almost to the point of looking like a hoarder lives in it.

CEF- I keep waiting to see a picture of the living room, pretty please with cookie dough on top? ;) So glad you are able to sell the doors and make some money back. Also, yay for having a properly working car!! Pinkelephant- I am so intrigued by your old school house turned home! I'm curious, do you happen to have any pictures from when you first bought it? It sounds like it has already been through a lot and now you are renoing it again. Your little girl is gorgeous!!! Sorry I couldn't help more with layout, it must be b/c of the time of year it is, the board seems kinda dead. You might try posting another new thread asking for layout help. There are some amazing layout guru's on here, you just have to be lucky enough to catch them. Good job though on shoring up walls, getting window openings set at this time of year, I know I don't want to be outside working right now!! OB2B- I.e. refinishing wood floors, I don't envy you. The first place hubby and I bought was a 60 year old house, remodeled in the 80s and they installed wood paneling and carpet over the wood floors. When we bought it, the first thing we did was pull off the paneling and pull up the carpet. We ended up refinishing all of the original floors ourselves before we moved in. I can't imagine trying to refinish wood floors in a house while living there! The dust and fumes are so pervasive!! Good luck! Also, on a personal note? Only 10 lbs?!?! You are doing much better than I am with reno fatigue!! Terri- I really want to see the before/after pics now!!! From the pic with your son, those trees were massive!! It must have made a huge difference to remove them! Annkh- I'm not a skier but those views look amazing!! I'm glad to hear you had a wonderful time on your ski trip. Schick- I, too, have all our taxes done, just waiting for a few forms to come in before submission. Are you good with electrical or are you going to have to hire it out? Our first house had to have the main replaced to bring it up to code, we were able to do it ourselves. When we added my kitchen last year, we added a sub panel for the new addition and, once again (thankfully) we were able to do it ourselves. I have only, in the past few years, come to realize why renovations are so expensive for the average homeowner. I was raised with a dad that taught me plumbing, electrical, car work, etc. (Yes, all work was done with a permit and passed inspection) No wonder others reno budgets are so high!!! I would have never been able to get even a fraction of what I have if I had to pay others to do it. I hope you are able to replace the main without eating into your bathroom reno too much! As for me, we left Saturday afternoon for them to spray insulation. We came back Sunday night with a vomiting kid and I spent the next few days trying to tend to her AND get work done. She was well enough to go to school on Tuesday so when the baby was napping, I pulled (what used to be) the window in the master bedroom which will now be a doorway to my closet. I also went in my "closet" and pulled all the decking off of what used to be the outside of the house. Just need to finish running electrical in there, build a header and install a door, and get drywall up and I will be able to start planning the design of the closet and planning the reno on the master bath. The bricks were delivered yesterday and the brick layers are supposed to be here tomorrow to start bricking. My dad is the one calling the shots on the reno since it is his (and my moms) place and I think he is honestly just ready for it to be done. We hired out pouring the slab. We hired out the septic (necessary since you have to have the proper licensing, etc. for it to pass inspection.) Hired out some framers to do the HIPP roof and now hiring brick layers to come and do the brick work. Most of this (except the septic) we could do ourselves but he is ready to be done and I don't blame him one bit!!

Wow! You did a great job on finding goodies. I love all of them but love the dish with all those colors. My GW never has good stuff. Maybe I need to go more often.

Eww, those pretty glass things are very eye catching & will come in really handy for vignettes or in a sunny window to catch the sun.

Those red candle holders will be perfect for a Valentines table.

You're getting a good jump on next Thanksgiving & fall already too.

I am NOT getting the shopping itch, just told DH that unless I can purge somethings in the basement, I won't be buying a thing at yard sales next summer. I barely fit what I bought last week at the "after" sales!

He was trying to think of more ways to put up more shelves in the basement & I said, that's not going to help, at some point I will "outbuy" places to store and then he agreed, so suggested I needed to go thru & purge what I really don't want or need!!!

Looks like I'll definitely be having another yard sale. I said last year was my last, but I need to purge some things again!!!!!

I hadn't even thought of the mercury glass red candleholders for Valentines. I was only thinking 'next Christmas' with them! Glad you're looking out for me. LOL.

Mags, good tips on what to put in the big vase. I have Christmas gift cards to spend at Michaels too!

dd50, my GW rarely has stuff like this. I occasionally get a shock like this haul tho. I try to stop in about twice a month. Either on half-off Saturdays or the Tues seniors day. Plus get the 20% off coupons when I donate stuff.

absolutely love that platter and those candlestick holders. I thought Valentines day right away when I saw them - I guess because that is the next decorating holiday for me. I am going to be hitting the SA store later today plus our big pottery store to see what they may have left over from Christmas .....

Love that turkey platter, what a great find. I agree that the red candlesticks are just perfect for Valentine's Day, 4th of July and then Christmas--you'll get lots of uses with them. Beautiful colored glass, usually the two toned things like that are pretty pricey. Glad you had a good shopping day!

Yachter, I think your DH was so sweet to want to try to figure out how to give you more storage! No "dish police" there. ;o) I'm feeling the same way--my storage area is just crammed full and I need to purge. Also have a cabinet in the laundry room full of glass items and two shelves in my hallway linen closet full of dishes and stuff--I hope to sort through it all and get rid of the things I don't absolutely love. I'm thinking I will part with the two bell jars, there's a red one and a gold one, but they are fragile and just take up way too much storage space. You don't see through them very well, and I'd rather have a clear one. Only paid $3.00 for both of them at Marshall's last year, so no big loss. There's also some plates that I'm not loving, so think they will go too. Now to just figure out when I'm going to do this--probably in February since we'll be gone most of January.

I know, I know, I'll probably regret getting rid of something later on, but I know I'll be buying new stuff this year too, so somethings gotta give! LOL

Luvs, you talkiing about parting with those bell jars is enough to give me nightmares. Especially the gold one!!Acccckkkkkk. Tho I'd have thought you definitely would want the red one for Xmas and Valentines decorating.

I need to go fix myself a stiff drink! (except I can't drink, so don't have anything to fix one with. Darn Fibro meds.....drinking would be cheaper and more fun).

Karen, I need to send my dh to yours for training!!! He thinks it all a waste!!!

Went to the outlets today in Gaffney, SC soley because I wanted to go to the Fritz and Floyd (sp) outlet!!! Dang the building was EMPTY!! ALL GONE!! Now they have no more housewares stores. Just clothes and shoes yuck!!!

Bright, you don't want your dh to get trained by mine, LOL. All he'd learn is GOLF. I think you meant Yacht's hubby instead. I'm sure my DH thinks the stuff I love is a bit of waste, but at the same time he's one of those great guys who says "whatever makes you happy, Dear". Since I never complain about him playing golf 6 days a week now he's retired, he definitely thinks I should be happy doing 'my thing'. LOL. Makes me appreciate golf !!

Karen, I love the platter! Made in Portugal??? Well, Portugal is only 2000 kilometers from my hometown and we don't find such nice things here ;-)))

Anyway... sales started yesterday in Belgium and will have a look at what they offer during the week, hope being able to find few things for next year and maybe, if I am lucky, for Easter as well as sometimes, they sell stuff not sold during the Summer sales.

Karen, you are so funny! You know how those cold virus spread, do you think there might be a "purging" virus going around? LOL

I was so thrilled when I found those bell jars, but the items you put under them barely show because of the colored glass. They are pretty, but I'm just debating whether they are worth the storage space.

For the first time, my DH really noticed how blah the house looked when I'd put the Christmas decorations away! After I got the pictures back up and some other accessories in there, he said "Oh, that looks lots better" I told him "furniture is important, but it's the accessories that make it feel like home." Hoping he will remember this and understand why I just NEED that cute bunny or pretty vase! LOL

Thats funny, Luvs about your DH missing the accessories and such. :) When I cleared up the thanksgiving table, DH noticed that the table was empty and was horrified that he felt something was missing from the table, in the first place!! LOL.

How is your neck doing? I hope not a lot of pain for you.

Mo, yes its a good system in most respects. He's such a laid-back kinda guy, and doesn't care what I do to decorate the house or yard. Or how many collections I have going, or the eBaying, etc. He seldom notices a thing, I definitely am married to Mr Oblivious! However, his obsession with golf means we don't do things together. I was obsessed with dog shows till the Fibro got so bad and I've had to mostly retire from showing. But we've always had VERY separate interests. We don't even like the same stuff on TV, so he watches his and I watch mine. The dogs hang out with me and the cats hang out with him. So guess it all works out. We've been together since 1967.
Just sometimes, I wish we shared things and I wasn't always 'alone' doing my thing! None of my "visible" friends like the stuff I do either, except one who likes to go antiquing with me. This is my fault for being so involved in the dog show world for the last 35 yrs tho. Now I've changed a lot in interests and my friends haven't. I blame it all on this Forum and my Garden Junk one, LOL.
But I love my INVISIBLE friends, and even if you aren't seen, I often take you shopping with me! Just hope the store employees and other shoppers don't hear me talking to you when I spot something you'd like.

Karen, you really did start the NY off right!! Terrific finds, I really love the red Mercury candle holders and what a great deal! Very funny postings about the "purge virus"! I have to admit, I felt a slight case of it coming on but so glad it has passed without any untoward effects!

Thanks for sharing your feelings as well, Karen. You never know how life will turn out down the road when we are caught up in our interests. It is nice you enjoyed it while you could though and that you have a new hobby even if none of your visible friends share it - I know I speak for all, when I say WE INVISIBLE ones are so here for you and love it when you take us shopping!

Karen you are soo funny. Isn't it interesting how we end up with the parnters we do. Mine is just the opposite as far as doing things seperate. We are totally opposite in everything. But he won't go off and do his own thing. He gets upset if we don't do everything togeter.... So I sneak in the things I like to do when ever I can and now that he's unemployed... oh my goodness!!!!! he tried golf once and didn't like it. He does like different things on the computor researching stocks and such. So he has his lap top and I have the desk top just feet away from each other.. So you all are my escape!!!

It's funny how we take each other shopping.. When I went to the outlet mall the other day I had you all with me.. even though the dish stores have all went away... except Pottery Barn I forgot we did go in there. You all would have loved it!!!!
