Need suggestions for good drip coffee maker
Comments (31)I was curious about your statement since Technivorm is supposed to be be one the of the few that brew at the correct temperature so I went to see what they say at sweetmarias and found the following statement. They do measure it in the cup and find it at 156 but they feel that's plenty hot for drinking as do I. I'm not sure how you'd prevent temperature drop off in a drip maker unless you only brew a single cup like the Keurig. I suppose you could reheat in a microwave right after brewing?!? "We have had some feedback from folks who find the coffee brewed not hot enough in the Technivorms. There is a steep drop off once the water hits the grounds and then drops to the pot - that is to be expected. Testing the machines at our warehouse in Oakland (elev. 8 feet) - I get the following temperatures: 195 to 205 degrees F at the brewhead; in the grounds, 160 degrees F; and 156 degrees F in the pot. I find 156 degrees too hot to actually taste anything - so I let it cool a bit. Some folks find this too cool - they are used to the coffee being heated on a hot plate above brewing temperature but I can't taste anything in a liquid that hot - so reheating the coffee does not make much sense for me. I know that some folks are used to coffee that hot though - that is what they are accustomed to. -Tom"...See MoreKeurig Coffee Makers & Coffee
Comments (35)I'm one of those who cannot make a good pot of coffee, because hubby and I are not coffee drinkers. If we have guests who want coffee, I usually have someone else make it or pull out a VERY old perculator which many of our friends and relatives seem to prefer. We have some good coffee stores and that is where I buy coffee. You can grind it then or buy the beans and grind at home. We have a keurig at work and there are two who especially seem to like it and use many different flavors. However most seem to prefer the old drip maker or the espresso machine. I do get the comment about a "good" cup of coffee. Occasionally, in a restaurant I might order a cup with dessert and there is one restaurant especially who has really good coffee. tina...See MoreBunn coffee makers and electric $$$'s
Comments (12)I agree with Darlene87. I keep mine on a timer. I think it makes the best cup of coffee. It does use more electricty than most other brands. But I love being able to pour the water in, walk outside to get my morning paper, and return to a fresh pot of coffee (about 3 minutes). There are only 2 downsides - my brother in law used the carafe to pour in water not realizing it would start flowing through the filter basket before he could empty the carafe - if you have hard water you'll need to use the included cleaning tool more often to keep the flow steady and fast. That said, I love the Bunn. It's better than starbucks imho....See MoreCoffee doesn't taste good anymore
Comments (29)LOL, Dcarch. My old friend Renee who used to post on the Cooking Forum, owned a coffee shop. She called it "Charbucks" and said they roasted their coffee too darkly so they could cover the fact that they were using inferior beans. Of course, she also called Maxwell House "floor sweepings". (grin) I make my coffee just like Sleevendog, starting with green beans and roasting them myself, grinding right before I make the coffee, using filtered water heated in my electric kettle and poured over grounds in the Chemex. The one thing that jumped out at me too was that the OP guessed at the proportions of coffee to water. I "played" with the Chemex for a week or so before I found just the right ratio to suit me. Find the ratio that suits you and use that amount every time, and your coffee will be consistent. And, incidentally, I drink both coffee and tea, depending on my mood. I like iced tea in the summer, but not iced coffee. I like both hot tea and hot coffee when it's cooler outside, and I've been known to drink a mocha occasionally too. I guess I just like it all...
