To me space was more of a premium and I didn't want to waste any base cabinet space for any ironing needs as I needed it to store other things. I liked the idea of using the wasted space between studs for it.

The door and frame doesn't really bother me and I rarely notice it. I more notice our mess of boots in front of the bench area for the mudroom. Think I need to re-do the bench or add a shelf somewhere as the current arrangement doesn't work for boots as they are too tall to fit anywhere (and all but one pair is DH's)

If you paint the random, lonely door the same color as your walls, you won't even notice it.

I, purely by luck, ended up with a wall fold down ironing board that almost exactly matches mu cabs in the laundry room....lucked out. I think it looks fine, and I can think of a million things I have to store in base cabs.

I love my pull down. We put a really heavy duty knob on the door and its an extra hook to hang todays outfit to wear.

I absolutely love the way ours will look in the laundry room wall. Most ironing centers have the option to come without a door, and then you simply have one made to match your cabinetry. We are having red beadboard cabinetry in our laundry, and the ironing center door will match the rest of the cabinetry. I didn't want it to blend into the wall (ie, paint it the same color) b/c I'm considering it to be cabinetry. The fold outs are nice too, but I also would not want to give up actual cabinet space.
