GE Cafe with propane

We are planning the kitchen for our new house and I fell in love with the GE Cafe range, but I've read in this forum that it loses a lot of BTUs when run on propane. Would it still be better than the old coil-top Kenmore electric I've been using for 15 years? I'm definitely not a gourmet cook :) but I've missed cooking with flame. If the BTU reduction is only a problem for cooks accustomed to more power, but it's still an improvement over what I have now, I will probably go for it.

I have the Cafe dual fuel, converted to propane. since my only comparison is my old electric stove, all I can say is it suits my needs and in my opinion it's head and shoulders above electric. I'm not a 'pro' cook but I like to cook and love cooking with gas.

I just had my GE Cafe installed today and we love it. This is our first gas range so I can't relate to the loss of BTUs, but it gets plenty hot for us. I cooked on it tonight and I never cook because I hated the old smooth top electric range. It seems to have more flame than I thought it would have since I read about some of the problems people were having with the flames. Ours is duel fuel.

Bump! Anyone? I heard back from the appliance store and he suggested the JennAir range, JDS8860BDP. I haven't even looked at that one yet, but would love to hear from someone who has a propane range - midlevel price and whether they are happy with it. If I need to, I can probably convince dh to spend up to $2400.

Help! GE Cafe owners: Kobe hood for a GE Cafe range?

I may be a little late, but we just had a Kobe hood installed over our GE Cafe. Love it. It is a model that actually sits inside the cabinet above, so all you see is a 2" "rim" coming out the bottom. It works great and looks great too - matches the stainless and since you don't see much of it, it doesn't clash at all.

I have the 4 door copper handles the dishwasher handle and double oven handles all the original boxes unused one not even open. All copper let me know if you want for half the retail price as they would not restock opened boxes. I prefer the copper handles but the brush bronze that came with appliances goes seamlessly with my other hardware so I am keeping the original bronze and selling the brand new copper that has never been used. I’m also trying to decide on pros and cons of propane range vs induction. Not familiar with either. Currently have an old electric 36” range but we do have a large propane tank used for whole home generator. This is a vacation/hunting camp, so wouldn’t use it all year long.

Glad to hear it! One KD insists that I "need" a 36inch 6-burner range, but it's extremely rare that I need all 4 burners on my cuurent range, and the price of the GE Cafe makes it very appealing.
