crazy woman spotted in Home Goods yesterday

For Christmas, I got a $100 gift card for Home Goods, plus a driver! LOL. Its actually only about 40 minutes from me, but I can't drive that far anymore with my right leg so bad from the Fibro. Plus time I walk the store, I'd sure never manage to drive home either. So I have only gotten to go ONCE a YEAR. (I hate to impose on my busy kids or golf obsessed DH) This was my 3rd time. Once my DD took me on my birthday, then last time I asked my DH to take me. DD gave me the gift card and said she would take me this time. She took off work yesterday afternoon and we went SHOPPING!!!! She just bought clothes. HUH? Silly Girl. I went nuts of course in the STUFF aisles. So much to see, so much to want, but I sort of retained some control. sighing.

You Pinkies are going to be VERY proud of me. LOL. The very minute I got inside the doors, the FIRST thing I saw were these pink mercury glass pillars and I fell in love instantly! I grabbed them before I even got a buggy! I found a lonely little Bordallo Pinheiro turkey candleholder on a clearance rack for $2. Then the pretty ceramic Easter egg and the clear lidded rabbit dish. (they had it in a beautiful turquoise blue too, but I figured I'd get more use out of it clear.)

I got a few more Easter decorations besides the ceramic egg. I loved the rabbit plate of course! I got two boxes of the glass egg ornaments. The other thing is large bead garland in pastel colors. (YES I bought PASTEL. LOL. No choice when it comes to Easter!).

I have LONG wanted the green Bordallo rabbit cake plate, and the little dessert one too. But on eBay they are so expensive, and then there's shipping. ;o( So I was practically jumping up and down in the aisle yesterday when I spotted BOTH of them. I first saw some yellow Bordallo rabbit things, on another aisle and was very disappointed they didn't have my green. But several rows over...there they were!! And about 1/3rd what eBay would have cost. I am soooooooo happy! Most of you know I already have quite a few of the green rabbit pieces in my collection, and its the cake plate I was really, really wanting. (they come in pink, blue, yellow, and lavendar also. Plus many designs besides the rabbits!)

So I'm a Happy Girl. Limping around today in loads of pain, but it was worth every step I took yesterday.

LOL. I told my daughter I HAVE to go back THIS year. Next Fall specifically.

Gosh Karen what a generous, fun gift that was . . . and what a sweet DD! I love everything, too! The pastel garlands look yummy. I can't wait to see what kind of arrangement you end up making with those pink mercury glass pillars. Do you think you'll top them with some chunky candles or what? Oh . . . the possibilities! Your green bunny plate is darling. Everything is, but I LOVE your new Bordallo cake plates!!! You are going to have such a fun time with all your wonderful new treasures. I'll be waiting for pics. Hope your leg is feeling better by tomorrow.

The cake plates are my favorite. It sounds like you had a great day but today seems to be not so good as a result. Do try to rest up,it's important. *S*.

I've seen that old crone at my house too. At first I assumed she was a visitor and was just overstaying her time with me like it was in my young days when there always seemed to be a relative or friend or someone extra living in our house. But I have no room here for anyone else, so hope she'll be moving on. Her eyebrows are turning stringy because if she spots an alien white brow it is death by tweezers immediately. She also complains about not finding a good hair dresser in this area, so is letting her hair grow long to wear in a French Twist even though her shoulders hurt like the devil when she has to reach behind her neck like that. The growing out period looks scraggly and is hot on the back of her neck, but she ignored me when I mentioned that. Hardheaded type. She's worn a path between my bed and the bathroom because of a diuretic she has to take for her cute puffy ankles. Her very active IBS is another gross and constantly embarrassing story, and has a way of running her life and causing the extra expense of keeping abundant toilet tissue on hand. She is searching the area for a farrier blacksmith type who would be abler to hack her iron toenails to an acceptable length. She is unable to cut them herself as the process of bending over to reach her feet simply releases the act of "shooting bunnies" to the nth degree. In that area, I try to keep away from her at the food market because she calmly and consistently "shoots bunnies" up and down the aisles, and then pretends to be completely unaware and certainly not responsible. No apologies made. In all fairness I must say the ole' bag has a wonderful sense of humor and can laugh easily at herself as well as at me. She still enjoys looking at men - younger, of course, - drooling a bit - and enjoys thinking how nice it would be to have just some nice, dry smooching once more. Is that a crime? If so, she really doesn't give a damn.

When are you coming to Florida? If you get a chance to pick up a thin inexpensive rain jacket (the kind that folds up into a little square), get one for each person. We will start getting those daily thunderstorms soon and they are so short its not worth leaving the park to wait it out. Fanny packs are great to use to keep your money, meds, or ID's in. If someone doesn't mind wearing a backpack, its great to have water and snacks in to save on buying them. Disney is one place that allows you to enter with stuff. Make sure to use the system where you schedule ahead of time the rides you want to go on. I can't recall whats its called but its like call ahead seating. Doesn't get you out of waiting in line totally but puts you ahead of those that don't do it. Get a map ahead of time and plot out the order you want to do the rides. Some people, if they are staying close, will be in the park at the opening time, then take the hottest part of the day off to rest and head back out in late afternoon. Thunderstorms can come up anytime but as I said, they are scattered for the most part and you can get indoors easily. It will be hot and humid here for you all - we are already into the mid 80's and even though its still nice in the morning, its hot by 10 or so. Sunscreen is a must, baby powder is also good for skin chaffing and its best to wear a shirt with a little sleeve in it part of the time - the tops of the shoulders will get burnt even if you use sunscreen and its most uncomfortable so pack a t shirt in the backpack to slip on in mid-day. Sorry, I know you didn't ask for advice but having lived in Florida and being at Disney where you see everyone burnt to a crisp, I thought I might offer some ideas. Hope you don't mind. Low-E, properly applied and selected, can keep you comfortably cool in the summer and comfortably warm in the winter. It also cuts glare and makes outside scenery a lot crisper. FOr us, it also means not needing any curtain except for a thin privacy screen in one section of the house. The rest are left open for a lot of natural light and unobstructed view into the valley and coast below. The stained wood is not covered by curtains and adds warmth to our house. Our heater runs a lot less now in the Winter and our A/C easily keeps the inside at around 75-F even when it is searing 105-F outside. How much time do you stand outside admiring or criticizing your home each day and how much time do you spend inside your home? Is interior comfort and beauty that everyone will notice less important that a bit of exterior tint that no one will notice? What is the point of having beautiful windows when you must pull the curtain or blinds to block out searing heat or biting cold? No one can see them! When a storm is blowing with snow, ice, rain, sleet or when the summer sun and heat is beating down on your house, I doubt anyone wants to stand outside and stare at the green tint and criticize it. They will be more interested in getting inside your house and start admiring how cool or warm it is when it is so nasty outside and LOOK, they will say, there is no curtain to block the views! Lindsey_ca, I would disagree. People like that generally just don't care and are selfish. They feel they're owed it. I don't think the difference would amount to more than a handful. I don't understand why people have to bring a whole tribe of gawkers into a hospital room anyway. Good grief, when I'm in a hospital the last thing I want is a bunch of people around wanting to be entertained, fed, and other special accommodations and more. And no, my family and friends with whom I'd allow in there aren't that way but so many are. Having finished a hospital stay recently I went to measures to NOT let people know I was in there. I have a peeve with the hospitals and their digging for phone numbers ("emergency contacts" which we know are more for collection options) and such. And who they can tell about my condition when they call, etc. I said they shouldn't get any calls - the only way there should be contact is if something goes wrong and I can't be revived or something, then YOU call THEM. I will give them credit (and for a lot of things). I called my sister to try to arrange a "release" for the next day when I'd be discharged (more on this peeve later!) The goofy phone system there wouldn't let me block the number and when I left a message, my sister saw the CID of the hospital and panicked, exactly what's not needed. So she called and got a hold of the night nurse but he wouldn't put the call through, just said that I was "resting comfortably" and not release any more info. Good for him, except that I actually was awake so I guess I could have taken the call. Now for the discharge procedure: When someone is conscious and alert, why can't a person take a cab or drive themselves? This ticks me off. I still drove home after I left. I told the nurse I could get to my car fine and since she had other things to do she went to do them, I got in my car, Sis got in hers and off we went. I didn't want anyone knowing I was having surgery and not letting you take a cab a bus or something? That's crazy. I don't think that's their position to dictate that. Now, short kudos deserved. The entire hospital staff was overall EXCELLENT during my recent stay and during the months of followup. This hospital gave me nightmares 40 years ago when I was there. Poor care but now, totally opposite. I don't think I could have asked for better care. They have thankless jobs and right down to the ones who cleaned the rooms, delivered food and otherwise, were respectful, cheerful and would ask if they could do anything for me, and that's not their job! I was amazed. Now for the crazy people. Generally, in my experience, it's not so much they're acting "crazy" because they are, it's because they're selfish and childish and grew up with getting what they wanted by throwing temper tantrums. Also they have heard the expression "squeaky wheel gets the grease" and often that probably works for them too. They're probably just spoiled brats and could use a smack in the chops and a wake-up call to reality. There's other people in the world besides them but that doesn't matter to them. It's no different than people butting into line. Back when I dealt with them directly I, a couple times, told people that if they could get EVERYONE else (patiently waiting in line) to agree to let you go first, then I would, but I wasn't going to ask them. Of course they were insulted and oh, I guess I wasn't "nice" to them but the world doesn't bow to them and they might as well start learning it. Often when I see a person like that who is (let's face it, the term is) "abused" by a patron, I try to give them a day brightener if I can. Go up and say something like "Who sh*t in THEIR cornflakes today?" or "Hope they don't step on a landmine on the way home, huh?" or something. Even a compliment on how they handled it or something. I've been on the receiving end of spoiled brat stuff and it is helpful to know that others appreciate the situation.

WORTH IT, WORTH IT, WORTH IT! What a great gift to be able to spend time with your DD AND "shop 'til you drop!"

Those pink mercury glass pillars are beautiful! Lovin' all the colors I've been seeing on here of mercury glass!

My fav is your Bordallo cake plate! It is so-o-o cute! That will be fun to use! Everything you found is wonderful! Now, take good care of yourself & do whatever helps relieve some of the pain. TFS your day! Jeanne S.

Now Karen, you know you simply do not need those pink mercury glass candleholders. I just know they wouldn't match your home, so I'll dispose of them for you. Just send 'em right on over to me and I'll take care of them. LOL

Seriously, you did great! How sweet your DD is to have taken you shopping. I so wish we had a HG close by to me.

Yoru rabbit plates are to die for! Will you use them in a tablesetting or a vignette?

DG, I am already kicking myself for not buying the other pink one...it was shorter with just two of those sections.
These are super light-weight tho, unlike my big red mercury ones. Plus not near as big. I'll use them on my mantle after St Pat's (for Easter and Spring decorating).
That is the safest place for them from Jazz Cat.

Here are the other green Bordallo rabbit pieces I have, tho many of you saw them before. I have slowly accumlated them from Ross and Marshalls. The teapot was my biggest score, other than this cake plate. Those two things are hardest find without resorting to eBay. I only have one plate, as I'm not buying these as dishes to use. (they are so dang heavy for one thing, LOL.) Oh, the rabbit "jam jar" and cup are by Haldon-Majolica and found in antique shops years ago.

Last Fall I was looking at some of the gold Turkey Bordallo pieces and really wanted a couple to decorate with, but not willing to pay eBay prices and haven't seen any in the stores. Shipping is awful on this stuff cause of its weight.

Man, Karen, you have a great collection of the green pottery. It looks good, just displayed together for no particular reason at all, just like you have it in the above picture.

I can't wait to see it in one of your vignettes.

Last Sat, I bought the same clear lidded bunny dish that you bought, at GW! I wonder if your's is from the same company. It's a heavy piece.

Karen, great finds, good thing you don't live by me, the Home Goods is about 15 mins from my house, kid you not!!! The bunny cake plates are great, I've seen the large ones here but not the small one. You'll have fun stacking with them!

I don't go in there often, have to restrain myself with it being so close, I'd have us in bankruptcy!

Took grandaughter to Dollar Tree today, she wants to do a tablescape at their house, now that she, her brothers & dad are back living in the house.

She was so excited & I was disappointed for her, Dollar Tree was pretty much cleaned out for V Day.

We did find a few things & I also gave her a red tablecloth to use & then we hit GW, thinking she would find something there. We found the big sundae cups (.99 cents) & I bought her the candy to do the sundaes on the table like Luvs showed us.

So, tomorrow she is going to do the table (she's 10) and she wanted to know if I'd post pics here of HER table.

Wish you lived close to me because I would gladly drive you there. My mother in law has fib. too so I see how hard it is. I have learned that when you are there you have to buy what you see. I have been skunked twice now because I thought I would wait until I pulled out my holiday boxes to see what I had. By the time I went back to get the items I wanted, they were gone. This happened with Valentine decorations and Halloween. I was there recently and I snatched the cute Saint Patricks stuff I saw.

Smart bunny! By the way, I checked eBay again, and the big cake plates are still going for over $30 plus another $12 to ship one. I paid $12 for mine!

Jane, as soon as I scooped up those pink pillars, I thought of all you guys. Its like you were there with me.
I have a larger, clear lidded bunny dish from antique shop.
I see them fairly often, along with the hen ones. And in colors. I didn't need this one from Home Goods, but that didn't stop me from buying it. Tho I sure liked the blue one a lot. LOL.

Oh my gosh, Yacht, I can't imagine having a Home Goods 15 min away. I'd probably bankrupt us. Its bad enough Michaels, Ross, and Dollar Tree is that close to me. LOL.
That is so cute about your GD wanting to do a table, and I can't wait to see pictures of what she does. I'm so sorry her shopping trip to DT was disappointing.

Wow, great shopping spree you had! I'd love those egg ornaments. I've never heard of "Home Goods" stores so just searched... very cool, but too far away for me to go.

Karen, I am so impressed and thankful that your daughter included going to the store with you as part of the gift! She sure is a keeper!

Great finds! Those green cake plates look fantastic separate or stacked--you can use them for so many things. Love the pretty pink candle holders and the glass eggs too. How could you NOT scoop up that sweet little covered bunny dish. I see another cute tree too.

Glad you had a good time and found so many goodies that you liked too. Rest up, and then you can start planning some vignettes. ;o)

Karen, you made a great haul! Everything is wonderful and I'm happy for you that you could add to your lovely green collection. I SO KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN about being the "crazy woman at Home Goods"! The only time I get to go to that store (Home Sense in Canada)is when I visit my DD who lives 4 hours away in the big city. I am practically screaming with my "oohhs and ahhhs", running up and down the aisles, trying to take it all in, unable to focus on anything. My DD tries to calm me down but to no avail - I love that store (DH, not so much when he sees how full the trunk of the car is for the trip home!) Thanks for making me feel better about myself, Karen!

Oh Karen, first I see your red candle holders and now you have pink pillar holders. I am such a pink person and can't get enough at the office for Christmas.

I love your green Bordallo rabbit cake plate and dishes. They are so neat and will look great on your tablescape.hehe You have some great finds and I'm so happy for you.

I completely empathize - I always say it takes a week to recover from one of those shop til I drop days! But so worth it when you get to "play" with the stuff!

It's probably a good thing the nearest HomeGoods to me is in California, or maybe Idaho - many days drive! LOL My nearest decent home decor store is HomeSense (Canadian home decor store owned by TJMaxx) and over 2 hours away. I'm used to shopping there infrequently so I must look like a crazy woman too (or a hick from the sticks) when I go there. I have to see everything and go up and down every single aisle and inspect every display. DH either drops me off and goes somewhere else or reads a book! LOL He knows it won't be quick.

I know you you had a blast shopping and what great stuff you found. I don't think we have a HG near us, just as well. I would give my right arm for those pink mercury glass candle stick. And you were so lucky with the rabbit dishes. I love them. Now you can rest and admire all your goodies.
