It's perpendicular to the joists. When the first hump appeared, I was convinced it was from a joist, but then it started happening all over so I wasn't sure. It's pretty inconsistent; there will be a stretch of about 8 boards with no tenting, then one, another couple boards, a tent, more boards, two tents in a row, etc. I agree that from what I have seen in pictures, it doesn't look horrible; I am a bit shocked that it's a problem though in our home considering the climate we live in; nobody here has issues with too much humidity, it's the opposite, considering we spend 1/2 our winters in -30 degrees Celsius. We all have humidifiers installed in our homes to keep our floors from gapping too bad in the winter! I talked with the builders site assistant today, and asked if he has seen this in any of the other houses in the neighborhood that were completed around the same time as ours, or since; and he said he hasn't. Will this kind of tenting damage the actual floor boards? Is the integrity of the finish and wood destroyed from the extra stress on the boards when they are tented and then walked on all day? Using a car or walking harness is a excellent idea. Many can serve as both a walking harness and a car restraint harness. I have two. The first I bought about twelve years ago from Petsmart. It was called the Canine Car something. Last month I bought another harness, this one was for my current dog and was a bit fancier. Brand name Fugo, or Furgo, something like that. Model was a close out at Petco. Costs were $16 and $30 as I recall. If you drive with a dog you have the responsibility of making sure the animal(s) is secure. Read about a case in a dog magazine a year or so ago. Driver with unsecured dog was groping for a dropped cell phone (or something similar). The vehicle struck another vehicle head on. The dog went thru its vehicle, thru the other windshield, and stuck and killed the driver. The first driver is serving a period in prison. I assume for some form of manslaughter, but there could have been DWI, or other charge.

The GC should have had some site rubble to place on top to weight down the foam. The PEX is fine. The foam is fine too. It's not necessary to remain in a single piece. The GC should have installed a separate moisture barrier underneath in addition to the insulation.

Lynn, I'm so sorry. I can kind of relate. At 18 my sweet nephew didn't have his seat belt on either when he was a passenger in a vehicle. They had a wreck and my nephew was thrown through the passenger window. To this day I don't know how that's possible. He was in a coma for six months, and if you're familiar with comas, the longer someone is in one, the worse off they'll be. My nephew is an adult now but because of the extreme bad temper the head trauma caused, he has to live in an apartment type home with other head trauma patients in a different city than his family. I've always thought his accident took my brother to an early grave. A seatbelt would have spared him and his family such pain.
