some photos of my new goodies

A friend took me to Hobby Lobby to spend my gift card my DDIL gave me for Christmas. I fell in love with this mercury glass bird and will use him Valentine's (and other times). He was just $7. I actually was looking for a pair of buffet lamps and they didn't have any I wanted, so I didn't buy anything else except some florals. I was good this time, LOL. And have an excuse to go back and spend rest of my card.

The two pictures are ones I printed off of vintage Valentine cards and put them in Dollar Tree frames.

Then, as Luvs calls it, I went Treasure Shopping. LOL. I had to drop some stuff off at Goodwill yesterday and they had put that dangerous sign out front about HALF OFF DAY. So of course I went in and scored some neat stuff. ALL of this cost me $6. Woooo Hoooo!! The little hand-painted wood Easter ornaments were just a dollar, 5 hearts and 5 bunnies and 6 carrots. I thought the Egg Tree was really pretty. And the Lady Bunny looks so Victorian, I love her. That pillar stand will be useful in a lot of decorating. And the crystal candleholder will make a great base for a hurricane I want to make.

Remember the metal acorn tree candleholder I found at shopgoodwill.com? I did some 'surgery' on it.

All those ribbon-y things were just a bit too much for me. So with a bit of guilt for whoever made it and put all that work into it....I put a lot of work into carefully removing a lot. I think it looks MUCH better.

oo great finds! I love the mercury glass bird and the egg tree especially.
I think you did a fabulous job renovating the acorn tree to. IMO , it looked kind of scary in the before pic but it looks much much better now.
Gotta love that dangerous sign out front.. LOL
My DH is taking a day off next weekend to take me treasure shopping for my Bday. I hope to happen upon that sign myself.lol

Great finds. While the lion head is indeed cool, I actually like the kettles more, myself. That said, the real reason for my posting is that I am a bit alarmed by the placement of the lion-head fountain. All it will take is a small amount of deposits of calcium or algae or whatever forming on the water outlet to redirect a small trickle of water down the front of the placard and toward that power outlet. Hopefully it is a gfci protected circuit which 'should' prevent anyone grabbing that cable from getting zapped, but even a GFCI outlet can short out and cause a fire when doused with water. Sorry for being the nay-sayer :(

Thanks everyone - sure glad you enjoyed the ' virtual experience' even tho you were't there IRL to share it. Janet...I've always wanted to go to that 500+ YS. I read about it in a magazine and also on TV.. I always say I'm going to do it...but then when the the time comes around...there's always something else to do. That would be a fun experience for all of us to do together...Pick a state and then all meet there. Magpie...I've never stayed that long at this sale before...to witness the 'Free' experience!! There was so much to see this time, that we stayed longer than usual..and yes the free stuff was amazing. I was laughing over one man giving things away and saying to people - 'You're too slow'...You missed out on what the other person got'...too funny. Luvs..When I was selling things from my home, before I moved, a woman came towards the end of the sale, and asked what we were going to throw away! I couldn't believe she came especially for 'free stuff'! I guess, like your friend, people do that and I guess it pays off. As far as the free things being nice...as we were walking back to the car...people were taking things that were piled by the trash bins..and I saw lots of nice things there too...but just passed them up...too tired! jeanne...you know when I heard the word 'Please'..it actually made me feel better to take it for free. I did feel bad that people had to give it away..because they couldn't sell it.. OA..LOL...'Flea Mkt Heaven'...Love It I'll let you know when the next one is coming!! That would be a fun experience. However, I'd love to go the one Janet mentioned. Have you ever heard of that one? It's the 'Mother Of All TS' !! Candy...ARRRRG... back at ya!! Hope you look good in 'Green'. LOL, Milosmom, scary is a good description! But guess I saw some potential since I bought the darn thing. I just wasn't sure what till I got it. I left most of the bows on, partly cause I didn't want to mess up the acorns he'd welded on them too.

Kathleen, I just got the acorn tree last week. I'd posted a pix in one of Luv's posts the other day. I'll have to wait till next Fall to use it. The gold color was kind of "brassy" looking to me, so I just sprayed a dark bronze on it then added a pale gold over that. I think I'll like it better. I should have waited to take the photo but didn't know I was going to be doing all this. LOL.

I don't know if I'll want to use 7 tall candles, that's really not my preference in candles. Wonder if the little glass candle holders would work? Thoughts, anyone?

I love the term "Treasure Shopping" and Karen, you have gotten some wonderful treasures! I really like the egg tree and the little bunnies and carrots. That mercury glass bird will be perfect for Valentine's!

Beautiful little bird you found Karen. The Easter tree and eggs are sweeeeet. I like your other treasures too and glad you got such a deal on all of them.

As for the Acorn Candle Tree, it looks great with it's new haircut you gave it!!! You may have missed your calling, honey.LOL

You can always use your glue gun and glue what ever you like on it. You have so many neat things it will be fun to see what you do with it now.

Karen, that tree with all the pretty eggs was a fantastic find, I love it--and you can hang hearts on it for Valentines too. Cute little bird will be great for Valentines and even Christmas too. The pedestal and candle holder will come in handy too. I really love how your prints look in the oval frames--good job on those, gal.

The acorn tree looks so much nicer after your "surgery" on it. I think the small glass votives would be fantastic on it--and you can probably find some next time you go "treasure shopping"! (That does sound better than "thrift shopping" doesn't it? No matter what you call it, it is fun and cheap entertainment--and just look at the goodies you can find!) LOL

Karen: I don't know if I would want tall candles in the acorn tree either with it having so much detail already.
What about votive candle holders that have the little nub on the bottom of them to fit down in taper holders?
They would keep the height profile to scale and be a perfect fit I think.

You are so lucky, our GW has nothing but junk/trash. You scored some great things, looks like your gearing up for Easter with all those cuties. Your tree looks way better, I don't think I would have thought to do that.

I like the acorn tree much better 'After Surgery' ..lol
It has a much better shape now.
YOu got some great buys at GW.
Lucky you to find some nice things for Easter.
I was at GW toady,
and I rarely find anything good or for 50% off.
