So my build finally started in January after months and months of planning. Here is our progress so far. Crossing my fingers that I know how to imbed an image!

I think these are all good questions. lol.

We were supposed to be finished at Christmas and then the weather hit. We were supposed to be finished last week and move in on Saturday, but the weather hit again. We are now scheduled to be finished today or tomorrow and move in this Saturday. We'll see how that works. We did manage to get closed last week. The only thing left to do after we move in will be retouches on the outside painting and landscaping. I'm not going to stress about that.

We started priming upstairs!!

Mud and taping still happening on the main floor. Electrical rough-in more than 2/3 finished on the lower level.

we're waiting on the alarm guy to run wires. he shot himself in the hand with a nail gun so now i'm supposed to wait around until he heals. of course the walls can't be closed up until he's finished.

do i sound uncaring? well, i was sorry to hear (sounds extremely painful) but this set us back three weeks already. ok, i'm not really concerned about the delay, just need to vent. it seems like one delay after another. and of course we're supposed to get a lot of snow dumped on us this weekend ...when is spring???

Windows were scheduled to be delivered last week but yet another delay...

Frozen ground and anticipated snow this weekend in NJ don't give me much hope that next week will be much better!

So sorry to everyone in VA, WaDC and south NJ....looks like everything is going to come to a stop this week.

Still at here in CA. Tons of rain in the past month but we need it (always the threat of water rationing and third year of drought!). Thankfully our GC made the decision last month to do all the exterior and halt work inside--good move. Exterior done just in time and they moved in just as the rain was starting to pelt down.

Drywall, taping and first mud coat on. Still 4 months away from finish.......looking for Spring!!!

I remember when I was a kid growing up in CT, houses took forever to build. There was a new subdivision across the street, and once it got cold, all activity stopped until spring! It is tough to keep a build going when it's cold, and this winter has been a lulu in some areas. Hang in there!

I feel like we are mired in the mud(we are). Progress seems slow. Our roof is not done yet because of all the rain snow & sleet. More predicted for this coming week. We've made some progress inside but it's mostly electrical and low voltage work. The stone guys have worked when the weather allows. Also we got the large beams up in our family room, at least the main lower ones.

We hung our chandelier yesterday!! We also finished the drywall on the main floor. Painting is almost done upstairs. Probably by lunchtime on Monday it will be done.

Sorry for 3 pictures, I know it is just a light but it is so Beautiful to me :-) Maybe because it is a milestone for us?

Tennessee has experienced unprecedented rain and snow this winter. Because of that the brick mason's really struggled to finish, however all the brick work is done with the exception of the front steps and mailbox. Hardiboard is on the front and they still need to install it on the back around the fireplace chimney. We have seen good progress inside with the completion of sheetrock installation and finishing. The painter is 95% done as of yesterday with trim work expected to start on Monday!

Everyones making some great progress. Its hard to be patient when the snow and rain hits but you all will get there and the winter is gonna be gone before you know it. Ramor Thats quite the home there. Nice details and nothing cookie cutter about it. Very original..Love the porte cochere. It sure appears this site /forums are a part of helping people to improve on the quality of design. There are fewer poorly planned homes getting built it seems. Thats progress and will benefit you all while living there and in any future resales.

Ramor -- your house is beautiful! Do you mind sharing what your stone name is? Is that stucco or siding color what you will use with the stone? Thanks!

All the credit goes to my builder. He is a unique individual and is passionate about what he does. I was fortunate to have found him. He is on the jobsite every day all day long. I read posts on here about all the trouble others have with builders and realize how fortunate I've been. He is a licensened mechanical engineer and also a licensened plumber. He charged a single fee of about 7 percent of the total cost and has made every change we have asked without any other charge.

He is also an architect(not licensed) and draws everything including the flashing on the roof. Anyway I can't say enough good things about my builder, he's one of a kind.

The exterior is at a bit of a standstill, but the interior is progressing. Plaster should be done in 2 days. Some tile was put down in the master bath today. Hardwood will be ready to pick up once the humidity/moisture is down from the plaster. Pics were before the 24" of snow over the weekend. We still need to get the front door (will be fir, stained to match the mahogany on the barrell). We'll eventually get the crown mould around the porch, 2 more columns, steps, railings, etc. We're using Eldorado cultured stone (limestone York style) around the foundation and around the garage doors. We'll have to wait for some warmer weather for that.

Well we are progressing and hopefully move in will be in May. My contractor thinks it will be May just not sure which year. He thinks he is being very funny. I am happy to report that we have a wonderful contractor who is meticulous & careful. He asks us a thousand questions and we wouldn't have it any other way, except maybe faster. We just got the sheetrock installed and the exterior siding is up. They are now taping and texturing.

We are plugging along as well, but slowly. The weather is almost a daily factor here! This week they are putting shingles on, doing the electrical rough in on the main floor and hopefully pouring the basement floor!

The horse pasture in front of the house will eventually be white plank fence instead of wire fence. The round thing at the right end of the house is an indoor greenhouse.

Ugh to the weather!

It looks like the weather has been a factor for everyone. Ours is at a standstill now, waiting for the snow to melt off the roof so the metal roofing can be finished. Roughing in plumbing & electrical is continuing very SLOWLY. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm ready for spring & drier weather for a change!

We are about 1.5 months until complete. It has taken so long because of the horrendous amounts of rain we have been getting since last summer.

Well, we started May 6, 2009. We were told 9-10 months, and he was right. We should be moving in about a month, but, frankly, I've been holding them up since our original house hasn't yet sold. the idea of 2 mortgages makes me ill and has kept me from being able to get excited about our dream house--that makes me very angry!! Oh well...i have finally ordered tile for the master bath which is one thing I have put off for 2 months-got sick of spending more money than was allotted--finaly bit the bullet. We've had only minor probs, which our GC (for 15%) has handled nicely. Sick of change orders, over-budget, "not in the plans." Ready to sell my old house and move in!! Will try to post pics if i can figure out how!

mscajunpie- I love the coffered ceilings! They seem to be making a come-back; I see them from time to time. I've always liked them, and may incorporate them in my future build.

mscajunpie- please explain your stained floors, are they stamped cement? I have not seen them used up in our area for floors, do you have a basement? are they heated?

We are building in south west Louisiana so no basement here and the floors are not heated. That was an expense we did not want to pay.

The floors are the slab that was just scored and stained. We did this after the walls were up because I liked the look of a border with two different colors. Most people here score the whole slab before the walls, so the scoring goes under the walls and base boards.

I can not wait to see the floors cleaned. I only saw the finished product with a layer of drywall dust.

Lots of weather delays here in Kentucky. Finishing up the wiring and plumbing, hoping to start the drywall in a week or so. First board layed 09/14/09, I'm acting as GC, average crew usually 3 or 4 guys plus myself. Custom design done by myself with 3dhome software.

We closed on our construction perm loan in December and finally saw some movement at the beginning of February. Lot is cleared, trenches dug, footings and foundation laid.
