Figured a way to still see with dial-up

Hi Guys,

Happy New Year. I was home washing clothes with both DH and DS gone and missing this place so badly. I signed on and just went to fold laundry or something while waiting for the pics to load up. I CAN STILL SEE YOUR LOVELY PICS! YEA !!!! Retirement is so much better now. I was having SERIOUS withdrawals from ya'll!!!

I'm still dial-up, but it's a matter of choice. All the other stuff is available, but I just don't want to bother with making changes. Of course, there are times when I really want to see some pictures, and they are very slow to come up. When that happens, I just close down and come back another time (on the assumption that there's a lot of traffic that's bottling up the line), or I get out my knitting and work on that while waiting. It really saves me a lot of frustration. I do think that some of the photo files are probably bigger than they need to be, but I also know that my dial-up is the main problem. It's possible that if I ever get myself a digital camera and want to post pictures of my own roses (providing they ever bloom), I will change my mind and switch. Laura

Picturetrail has a feature that I wish Photobucket had -- it allows you to click on a thumbnail to see a larger picture. I could do that with my 35mm scanned-in photos, but I can't even load my digital images into Picturetrail.

Never mind, I was just trying to move too fast, there is a choice of how all connections are set up, the first/default is wireless, and I didn't correct to what I wanted. Not so different in this respect from XP, I just didn't look.

Just out of curiosity did you try the laptop and desktop at the same time? Not together but one after the other. The time of day can play into dialup speeds because more folks are on the phone from afternoon to the wee hours. Early mornings are best because that is a quieter time. Rain or consistent damp weather can affect phone lines especially if there is a tiny crack in the insulation of the wires outside underground. We lived through that scenario before going highspeed.

Yeah Betty! Glad you will be able to still join in. Hope the pics won't load too slowly for you--I know that can be frustrating at times. We will be looking forward to your comments and ideas. I love,love,love this place! I got so many great things after Christmas and can't wait to go back and look at all of your pics of stacking plates (yeah, I found a set after going to every store in Lynchburg!!!!), tablecoth,napkins,napkin rings, and the most BODACIOUS silver reindeer set I've ever seen (one sitting and one standing) regular $39.99 ea and I got both for $20.00!!!

I must stop buying Christmas stuff and get a digital camera and the program so I can post pics to share with ya'll 'cause you've been so good to share with me and welcome me into the family.

Yes, Betty, we would love to see pics of your finds, especially those reindeer! What a great deal. Start saving up for a digi camera okay? You can join Photobucket for free and it is really easy to upload then post your pics. Trust me, if I can learn anybody can! Luvs

Betty, that is great you got a set of stacking plates. Its amazing what fun they are. And also how much joy they bring all decorated up. Its almost like having a mini Xmas time all thru the year, with different things and colors and ways to make them look festive.
You definitely need a camera, I want to see those reindeer too!!! Glad someone else is still buying Xmas stuff, makes me feel a bit better. LOL.
