my BIG after Xmas purchase

I am so excited........I don't go to the Day After Christmas sales due to my fibromyalgia. So I miss a lot of great goodies. Tho my DD always goes and she oftens picks up things she knows I'd love. Well for several years now I've asked her to watch for a HUGE Santa for me. I have several that are 18-22" high but I wanted one of the real big guys. Of course Santas go fast at sales. She's never been able find any. So yesterday I had a short errand near a Tues Morning and decided to go in and see what might be left a week after Xmas. There was MY Santa, all 37" of him. He was originally $150 and I got him for $35. I was so excited I could hardly stand it. They also had one slightly smaller I got for my daughter. I can't believe these weren't snatched up before. You don't know how long and how bad I wanted one like this, and now he's MINE.

DD...I'm not sure my DH wants to be displayed at Christmas. LOL. (sorry, couldn't resist). I still can't believe I got this guy, and at that price!! I don't check Craigs List that often, except maybe to scan the free stuff. And I've bought very little off it. Tho last year I got a wonderful marble-top round table and a console table with heavy ornate wood, both things I'd long wanted but didn't expect to find 'affordable'. I've never seen anything in Collectibles on CL that I wanted before. Guess this was one of those "meant to be" things. I just started collecting Nutcrackers last year, tho I had a token few little ones. I didn't even know they would appeal to me so much now. LOL. I like this King one, but I also like the soldiers as much. Some of my 11" ones are golfers, along with 2 golfer Santas...in honor of U Know Who! In Dec, at my favorite antique mall, one of the dealers had a 6 ft tall Nutcracker. I about had a fit seeing him. Boy did I want to bring that one home!! But he was $300. Way out of my budget. Tho out of curiosity, I looked the life-sized ones up on the Web and found they were usually around $700. So he was a good buy. He'd have looked great standing by my life-sized Carousel Horse in the livingroom. LOL. As it is, I need to find a place to store this guy. He's in my bedroom closet at the moment. My Xmas closet is FULL, especially as I have the 36" Santa in there too. I can't wait to display the Santa and this Nutcracker together. Is it Christmas yet????????? LOL

Is that it? I'd have thought there'd be more. I mean, really . . . can't you at least TRY to get into the holiday spirit??? Kidding. Purplemoon, it is ALL TOO WONDERFUL. You did a great job throughout your house. It was fun seeing the pictures of your decorations from different angles in the same room. Gives a person more of a feeling of actually being in your house. All your decorations are so nice. And you displayed them with great care and thought despite your aches and pain. I know it must have been a lot of work. I hope you got some encouraging words from the doctor. I have suspected for a while now that your claim of being "tablescape deficient" was just plain bushwah. Now I know it for sure. You have painted yourself into a corner with this one, Karen. Hope to see some sort of Holiday Table from you. Make it a table for two, just you and your Dad. Pleeeeease.

Most grocery stores are hopping on the "in store" specials bandwagon in a big way. What's consistently up seems to be bread and bakery products - a decent loaf of bread here runs between $2.99 and $3.29. Although I'm not a consistent coupon slipper and don't particularly have to watch pennies, the flyers from the major local chain tends to have quite a few coupons that are worth clipping - 5 12oz. cans of frozen store brand (actually as good as Minute Maid) OJ, free dozen eggs with a $10 purchase, etc. etc. The national coupons that come in the Sunday paper are usually for stuff I wouldn't buy anyway - so that's a savings as far as I'm concerned. My biggest thing is making food purchases that don't go to waste. Stock up on things when a good bargain appears - sure. But I buy those things that I know will be consumed at a meal then added to augment other meals and not tossed into the can on trash day.

37"s tall! - If you would have bought him on Dec 31st I think you could have taken a dependants tax deduction for him this year. LOL

Nice to 'see' you, Jim. LOL, yeah I guess he could be a dependant considering he's about the same size as my 4 yr old granddaughter. I think this guy is rather handsome myself, Lynne and will refer to him as St NICK in the future. (my daughter got the Santa one in his bright red suit, tho he's 33" high and a nice looking fellow too.)
I had been in quite a depression since Xmas morning as Xmas Day got ruined for me and left me in tears. So I really needed ol' St Nick to lift me up. (oldest son was a bit of a problem, even tho he's 44 yrs old. arrgghh)
Now I have to figure out WHERE the heck I'm going to put a 3 ft tall Santa till next Nov. LOL.

Put a sheet over him...Halloween he can be a ghost....Now if you think of a way to change him into a bunny for Easter, let me know, LOL

LOL, Kathleen, making him a ghost for Halloween....too funny. I think I'll pass on trying to put Bunny Ears on him for Easter. I'm afraid he's going to have to hide for the next 10 months, sigh. If I can find a hiding place that is.

Karen, children, no matter their age can sometimes be the hardest on their moms because they know inside that no matter what, their moms will always love them. (My only son is in his 40's and he wasn't very nice on Christmas Day either).

I just realized who your other son is. I think I have seen his story on TV several years ago. I was totally in awe of his wonderful spirit, you must be so proud of him. And your daughter-in-law is exceptional.

I never think to go to Tuesday Morning and if it wasn't so cold outside I would venture over to see if they have any Santas left - but with temps in the low 30's, I wouldn't be able to bring myself to get out of the car. I am a big wuss when it comes to cold weather.

Yes my DD was thrilled with her Santa and shocked I found them a week after Xmas. I seldom think to go to Tues Morning, so guess St Nick here was calling my name that day.

PF, thank you for comments on Jason and his wife. They still rerun several shows on TV with him quite often. Extreme Surgery on Discovery, and First 48 on A&E when he solved his first solo homicide case. My daughter-in-law is fantastic and I love her to bits.
Sorry your son, like my oldest, wasn't too nice for Xmas either.

What a nice Santa he is, Karen-- (I'm still laughing at Jim's tax deduction comment...).

37 inches tall-- WOW-- now that's a lot of Santa per square inch for your money. :)

I'm sorry to hear so many folks had to deal with Scrooges for Christmas... Why people can't manage to just suck it up and be NICE for a holiday-- ONE DAY-- but instead need to act out whatever issues they've had going for the rest of the year, well, I just don't understand it. But unfortunately it seems the way the holidays go.

Me, I find I spend much of my time on holiday damage control, heading off moods. So I understand. :)

Wow, now that is a Santa. Glad you found one you like and a week late, he was waiting for you. Sorry you had a hard time on Christmas.

Karen, what a wonderful find. I know the feeling when you've been looking for something and it seems you'll never find it. It was meant to be, he's gorgeous!!

Also had ruined holiday time here. As you know, things are strained here as is and stress got to some Christmas nite & we were left in tears too! PF & Karen, you have my sympathy & I know how you feel.

Not all families are the perfect "Leave It To Beaver" and we all expect that at Christmas time. I have quit expecting & them I'm not so let down.

Yacht, I'm so very sorry to hear about your Xmas too. I guess you're right, we want Leave It to Beaver at this time of year. Luckily I'm the only one who got really upset Xmas Day, the others just got irritated with my oldest son.
Sometimes I'd like to rap him upside the head, but I'd have to stand on a chair to do it, LOL. Wonder if he'd loan me his police baton to use.....

I also have fibromyalgia so I know what thats like. That Santa is just so beautiful, and what a great deal you got on him. The old world Santa's I just love and have my own collection of. I must have about 10-12 differnt ones. When we did put our tree up we had a lot of old world Santa ornaments and the tree top.

Hey, maybe next year, when we bring out the Santas, we can take photos of them as a group before we scattered them around the houses when decorating! A Santa Convention, LOL.
Might need a snowman one too for our other "collectors" of the funny white guy.
And I also liked Luv's idea of taking photo of our favorite ornaments! Gosh, talk about planning early!!! Guess I got my Xmas Spirit back, LOL.

thrift_shop_romantic, sorry to hear you also join some of us with Holiday DRAMA! Sad to say, but some people seem to pick the holidays to let it all out & it's not pretty!

We are planning on going to Florida next Christmas & not doing a family thing at all! I'm really tired of all the drama!
