Lighting over breakfast bar or island.....

What style of lighting do you have over either of these areas~my plan calls for a breakfast bar, no island. I'm wanting a formal look in the kitchen, and am debating a single chandlier, or two 'fancy-smancy'(I love them!)little pendant lights~here they are.......

I found them for more than $100 less at Home Expo.

Problem is, I wanted a single chandlier over the table in the breakfast area, and think one might detract from the other if one were over the breakfast bar also. Thoughts?

Trish, I would think if you put a little chandi in the kitchen along with fancy pendants over the bar, then something elqually as nice, but without crystals for the breakfast table. Doesn't your kitchen open into your family room? Is that room going to be formal as well? Don't you also have a formal dininig room? I would think you'd want to put the fancy chandi over that table rather than the breakfast one. Am I making any sense?

Also, doesn't your family room open into the kitchen area/breakfast area? Make sure you remember these will have to flow into each other so you don't want one very formal and the other not. So if you're going formal you'll have to continue that, which might be what you want and that is fine. In my next life I'll have a house that is 100% formal and of course there will be no cats or dogs. HA!

Buy the way that chandi is so beautiful. Did you see the one someone has picked out for her dining room on decorating? It's the same collection as yours but larger with candle bulbs. That collection is the most beautiful chandi I've ever seen.

So did the slab get poured this last week?

Hi Patsy, yep the slab got poured and my DD called yesterday to say they've started framing...got pics on email. I am SOOOOOOOOO excited! At the pace they're moving, the house could be finished in MAY!!!

I'll be using the family room as more of a formal LR with the upstairs game room for tv watching. I want a place where adults can relax with NO tv, but send the kids to a different area to play or watch tv. I'll be having a hanging fixture in there also(FR), and it will also be formal, but no crystals. LOL Foyer fixture will also be quite formal as well as DR, MB, MBath, and downstairs bath. Can a woman have too many chandy's? Ya have to remember, this is *definitely* a woman's house! LOL It really is a beautiful collection, but expppppppensive! I might do one of the hanging crystal fixtures over the table.

hahahaha....i'll still have my cats, but only 2, and I want to rescue a Greyhound, remember? I've even thought of fostering, since i'll HAVE A YARD. ;o)

I like the sound of your kitchen; I'm more in favor of a soothing than a dramatic kitchen. The curtains will liven up your scheme but a lot will depend on the pattern and the tone of the colors. I hope you find something suitable. Lots of people here seem knowledgeable about online fabric places. Good luck!

Lighting over Island/Table & Snack Bar

Ok. So got a few things to 'throw at cha' All my new cabinets are in, I need to figure out how my lighting is going to go in my newly renovated kitchen. Contractor is going to put a can light above the sink, and the rest of everything is up to me. The mistake I made (or maybe not a mistake) was to buy my main light fixtures before this renovation was even started. I got excited and ordered them on Lamps Plus.com. Not sure if I'm totally crazy about them, but the shipping will be very expensive to ship them back and I believe I can make them work nicely. The first area I need help on is the Island/Table area. It is roughly a total of 100 inches long or a little over 8 feet. These are the fixtures that I have purchased and I am wondering how I should position them. My guess is to put the chandelier in the middle and the pendants on each side. Need some input. I also need to find some mini pendants for the snack bar area, but my contractor has told me that the top part that attaches to the ceiling needs to be VERY small, like 3-4 inches in diameter - I don't see this measurement included in the specifications on the pendant lighting, just the diameter for the actual light that hangs down. HELP!!!! The URL link that I am including is the chandelier. Measurements are as follows: 28" high, 26" wide The mini pendant is 8" wide and adjusts to 53" high. Need some opinions on how this will look, if anyone has the same type of set up and if you can send me pictures I would be SO grateful!!!!!! I have a friend that did exactly what you are describing. They removed the wall between dining room and kitchen (no cabinets or appliances were on the wall) and added an island to separate the space where the wall was previously. It's really more of a peninsula since it comes right from the wall. They have an overhang so seating is on the dining room side. It looks nice and opens up the space. It's far enough away from the main counter run that it isn't functional for food prep etc. It's great for serving and seating though.

Lets chat about the whole lighting situation. if you change the pendants you might as well change the boob light in the kitchen ... and something about your bell jar over that dining table ..is the bottom cap crossthreaded or something it looks completely off?

Oh that will be so nice, the entire downstairs formal. Wow, I can't wait to see it. Love all those chandi's, you can't have too many!! My house is so wired for lighting that when we finally switch the lever to turn all our lights on, the entire neighborhood will dim. LOL

Patsy, I can't wait to see it either~i'll know if I should kick myself in the butt or do the happy dance. LOL Not really much to see yet, just the framing of the first floor. We'll be going out on Wed. and the complete house could be framed!

I was told today my house could be finished by the end of May!!! OMG, I might be ready for visitors by late July. LOL
