Fan Car NOT turning on after I turn off Car

I have a 1996 Honda Accord LX.

The fan on my car was not turning on when the car was on, so I took it to the shop and they fixed that problem (this happened about a year ago).

But after I took it to the shop, when I turn off the car the fan does not turn on automatically as it used to.

Do you guys know what might be the problem or what I should look into?

If the fan was not running while the engine was running, it will not run immediately following engine shut down.

The electric cooling fan is controlled by a temperature sensor. When the temperature sensor trips, a relay is turned on to power the fan. If the coolant does not get hot enough to trip the sensor, the fan will not run.

On many cars, the fan is shut off when the ignition is shut down, however, some cars and I believe that Honda is one, the fan circuit is electrically hot at all times and the fan will run so long as the temperature sensor calls for it, thus, the fan runs for a period after engine shut-off (provided it was running at engine shut-down).

If all was working well, the coolant was not hot enough to warrant a fan when you shut down. However, what you should be concerned with is, "Does the fan run when it should? Is the temperature sensor and fan circuit working?" If you car has a temperaure gage, it can be helpful while diagnosing this system.

The other question becomes, "Is the thermostat working, or is it stuck open or missing?" If you are uncomfortable in running a test with the car at rest with the radiator covered, then it is best that you take your concerns to a local shop that you trust.

I still have a 90 Maxima with approx. 250K miles (odometer intermittant) and it still runs great. Only normal wear and tear items have had to be replaced. Plenty of power still (it's fun to "race" some of the newer sports cars and beat or at least keep up with them and watch their faces - I just laugh at them and pi** them off). Paint and trim and interior still look really good. Everything works. Gas could be going up to $4 in near future, so keep that in mind. I still get about 29 mph on hwy (checked when odometer is working) - not sure about city. Also not sure about 2000/2001 year for either model. Overall, I think they've both done well for all years. My timing belt change interval is 60K miles. Can't remember it it has the "interference" type engine that can be damaged if timing belt breaks (there's a web site of a timing belt manufacturer that lists this for all car - Gates Rubber, maybe?). I usually do the water pump at same time since they have it opened up - about $400 here to have independent mechanic do both). Good luck on your purchase, whatever you buy. I'm hoping to get another year or two from mine, before buying another good reliable used vehicle.

I just bought 2 'remotes/fobs' through Amazon for my 4Runner. The price for 2, which came with easy instructions on how to program them, was $33.53. I also bought 2 keys, which were $8.68 each. The keys needed to be cut and programmed. The local dealer would not return my call; I suspect because I had bought the keys elsewhere. The price of keys and remotes for your car may differ, but the keys that I got for that price were OEM. I found a local locksmith who could do it, and not all can, as the machine that they plug into your car to program is very expensive. There was only one locksmith in my county in Maine who could do it. He charged me $100.00 to do the cutting and programming for the 2 keys. Another locksmith who could do it gave me a price of $90.00 EACH. I didn't find my locksmith mentioned on the site on the paperwork that came with the keys, which was www.autolocksmithfinder.com. I Googled 'auto lock locksmith in Maine' and found others, including the one I used, that way. As mentioned above, it will be much less expensive than the dealer's price.

Congratulations, Kathleen. As some have said, you're making good progress. Next thing, as you say, get the debts paid off. May I make a suggestion? When the debts are paid, keep putting that amount away monthly for some time. When car needs repair (and not right away, of course) you can write a cheque. When it comes time for a replacement ... write a cheque. When you pay interest ... you put bread on someone else's table, not yours. My car, with just over 100,000 mi. on it, was 19 years old a year ago now when I bought it for cash. Later, an accident involved having the rear wheel track crooked, but I felt that, with not a lot over 100,000 miles on it, there were many good miles left in it, so instead of following the financially wisest path of scrapping it, I wrote another cheque for more to have it fixed than the price that I'd paid a few months before to buy it. Mainly to avoid the waste of precious energy, plus addition to the pollutant and global warming problems involved with building a new one, when repair involves mainly labour. No debt. But when one nears 80 one is in trouble if s/he needs to use debt to buy stuff. ole joyful

I keep a cooler in both of my cars. If I go to Pierre which is 40 miles away I uusally need it. When we go to Bismarck which is 3 hours away I for sure need it. I like to shop in ND because there is no sales tax on grocery and there is more competition because there is more grocery stores to choose from. In Pierre all we have is WM and a Super Valu.
