I mentioned the S-10 with the theft deterrent problem in a different post. At one point the guy wanted me to "bypass" the system. Of course I wont do that I told him, it's better to simply fix it, or else I'm done. It turns out the TSB that applied for the harness repair, and removing a resistor that someone wired in attempting to bypass the Passlock system was the final repair for the theft deterrent.

The truck also has an ABS lamp coming on, the LF wheel speed sensor is erratic. This morning was the third time we talked, during the conversation the owner talked about how he had taken this truck back to the Toyota dealer they bought the truck at, a GM dealer, and at least five other shops and none of these places were able to solve the problems his truck has. It didn't matter if they were shade tree guys that looked at it, or great techs none of them could solve the problems. I asked him if I have lived up to his expectations, by solving the trouble and then he says, "we were trying to avoid paying to have it fixed".

Or at least something along that idea.

Oh well, fixing the car right isn't good enough, I have to do it for free. Guess he won't ever bring another car in.

My sympathies, John.

It's the same when I sell a car with no warranty on it. They come back with some little problem and I have it fixed. They come back with another little problem; I try to work it out the best way I can.
It ends when they finally blow up at me for reminding them the vehicle was sold with no warranty, after they realize they want a new car at a used-car price.

A number of times, the boss will tell me to just give them their money back----you can forget it by then---He** will freze over first, after what they've put me through because the car wasn't perfect!
BTW, I ALWAYS encourage customers to have the car checked out by a reliable mechanic before they buy it...

After days like that, I dump a little Amaretto in my hot tea when I get home that night! :o)

Got you all beat. Good thing you don't live in farm country. A guy brought me a lawnmower with the carb in a plastic bag with half the parts missing. Well i put it together and used my parts. He said how much. I told him
forget it and we can do some horse trading when i need something from you. He insisted i take some money. I said fine $20.00. He then proceded to almost fall off the back of his truck with a look of shock on his face. Go figure.
Take it to the city and see what they charge you. Plus the
cost of your gas. The one thing that boggles my mind is
people out here, probably other places too, will give you
a $40.00 bottle of Whisky but pass out when you ask for $20.00 and they don't even help you drink it. I don't know.

Since this is an outer wall, I'll wager this is thermal expansion/contraction of the piping or heating elements. When I was very young, the house had a family room that had been converted from a screened porch. A loop of hydronic baseboard heat was the easiest to add to a system that had radiators elsewhere. As the heat would come on, one could hear the baseboards creaking with expansion, which would occur sequentially around the room. Sounded like some small and not especially energetic critter making the rounds. If you don't see droppings, you don't have mice. Snakes, maybe, but not mice.... ;-) Cheers

WHile I understand the frustration of you pitted against the DH, I think you made it worse with this "I looked at him and told him he was creating a cry baby by giving into it and I walked away". I'm really hoping SS did not hear/see that and as at a table setting I'm not sure how it could have been very private between you and DH. I'm guessing the other adult friends witnessed this also. I doubt DH or child are non too happy with the incident. You called them both out for all to see. I'm not saying I think you're wrong to want backup and consistent 'rules', punishment ect, but I'm thinking making an issue over the iphone and vid games on it in a setting were games were part of the reason there was your wrong step. Ignoring kid's fit, fine. Quietly pointing out to kid his behavior was silly and all the others were having fun, fine. But putting DH in spotlight and calling kid crybaby in front of all, not so fine. If I read this wrong, please forgive me, I know it's hard to tell a whole story in these small spaces, I'm just going on what and how you actually told us here. I think there are two problems now. 1. Dh is not consistent with SS and sending kid double messages which are 'no', and also 'oh, okay, if you whine about it'...and 2. you put them both in bad light in front of others and DH came out defending son. No win situation. It may have been better to ignore SS fit, and once DH did not by giving kid iphone, it would likely have been better to deal with DH at home in private away from friends and SS. Like being between a rock and a hard spot. There was really nothing you could do, but you ended up letting SS play Dh against you. Yet another reason it likely should have been dealt with later, kid just learned he can win with dad against you by even more crying and whining. Good for him, bad for you. I think it's good long talk time with DH. He's not helping SS and you're ending up being the bad guy.

Oh bill, LOL!!! Yeah, my thoughts are along the same lines. I could understand building a wall if he needed it for support of the tall cabinet or something like that. Or because he doesn't want to, or can't, build a doorway-type header, so this wall behind the fridge can hold up a cabinet above the fridge. Or that having it would be against code for fire reasons. His comment about insects being the reason completely floors me. I have never heard such a thing. Hi chinchette, I'm not actually sure what the GC's "picture of success" is with the wallboard because he's been explaining things to my spouse, who then tells me after I come home from work. I know it would be easier to see if I could draw it out, but I have to run to work at the moment. What I've gathered from the spouse is: - They're using 2x2 studs (which I think are technically 1.5 x 1.5 inches). - They're putting one set of studs behind the cabinet (so perpendicular to the fridge back wall, running behind the cabinet to the existing real wall that runs between the kitchen and dining room) - They're putting another set of those studs behind the fridge, running parallel between the cabinet and the fridge, ending at the chimney (the chimney is that grayish solid block on the right hand side of the picture). There's already an existing plaster wall on the face of the chimney that this new L-shaped set of stud framework will end at. So, he could put wallboard on the studs on the fridge side, to finish it off. Whether he'd put them on the inside (which would still be a cavity next to the chimney), I have no idea. And seems overkill to me--but then these walking insects would be able to get there too. - Lee

The trouble with "rules" in general is that they tend to be a little "one size fits all." They are useful to know, and I broke the ones I broke, knowingly, and after a lot of consideration. I have never understood the 15" seating overhang guideline, but it must be made for long-legged people who really like to belly up to the counter. That's not us, we measured what we have and found 12" to be plenty, even though we are not short. Some people really want to unload the dishwasher without moving their feet, so dish storage near the DW is important. We are used to a more "point of use" dish storage system, so the coffee stuff is in one place, the dinner dishes another, the breakfast dishes another (not that any are very far away.) I unload the dishwasher maybe 3 times a week, so it just isn't that big of a deal. Maybe it is if you do it twice a day, though! Our fridge is at the end of our U-shaped kitchen. With a large family or even a few kids + friends running in and out, that could be a disaster. In a retirement home for 2, it's fine. (Obstacles to easy access to the fridge for snacks are probably a good thing at this point!) Plus I don't want to see the fridge from the LR, pretty as it is. And we could have had an island instead of a peninsula, but we didn't really want it THAT open to the living area. And you can't get into the dishwasher and the freezer drawers at the same time, but that seemed to be a conflict we could live with. I am a person who has to know the details of the "why" before I will follow a rule. Then I see if I think it fits before I decide whether to follow it. The list of advice I took to heart is a much longer list, though! Much longer.

I just wish I knew someone around here that had your diagnostic capability.

There's a shop I go to, but I don't know any of the guys that work there. Could be different people every time I go for all I know. That being the case, I'm afraid it'll still be a crap shoot if I have some special technology related problem.

Why in the world would anyone want to steal an S-10 in the first place? Seems like a waste of electronics and your time of course. I say take him up in front of Judge Judy!
