antique stores

Do people still buy antiques? I see so much Fuchsia, turquoise or lime green painted 1980 furniture that I assume someone is buying it. A second hand store I was in last summer the guy said nobody buys antiques any more. The young couples today want the painted stuff. What dcor can incorporate those colors? Or is it disposable fill in furniture until "someday"? I just don't get it. Aside from the ugly, why would you pay a hundred bucks for a 1980s fuchsia dresser? A really nice wood dresser from the antique store would hardly be double that here in Iowa. And if you bought it at the second hand store it would be $79.99. And it wouldn't need to be stripped!

I was looking on craigslist for end tables. After I added $$ for stripper and my free time, there is no way I'll pay it. The easy way out would be another coat of paint. And speaking of paint. Some of the paint jobs I've seen look like it was the first time someone had ever painted anything.
