I would agree with "let them get red" as a rule. They might top out at bright orange, yellow, pale green or purple, but odds are red is your target. If you had said, "I bought the seeds off the interwebs and two of them look like jalapenos and these two don't" i'd say whoever sold them to you got theyselves a little bit of a hybridization problem. Seeing as how you bought them from a nursery, it depends on if they grew them on site from seeds or bought them as seedlings. If they planted seeds and sold the seedlings, hybridization is still a possibility. If they bought them as seedlings for resale, i'd wager on mislabeling (if someone is selling wholesale peppers, i'd assume they're going to either make damn sure they're selling purebreds or go out of business). Either whichever... enjoy them. Life is an adventure. :)

I've grown plants from these same packs of serrano and jalapeno before, I don't know how the purple serrano and the unidentified ones got in there this year and not the past 2 years (though last year I didn't have enough time for things to ripen, I planted the Hot Lemon last year too but couldn't ID it since frost came when still small). Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket! I hope the Dollar store seeds don't give me the same problem - bought lots of habs, some Hungarian Wax and other veggies. Come to think of it, my Early Prolific yellow squash from Burpee (new packet) was neither this year, though it is a yellow straightneck, but I've got both light green and dark green zukes from the zucchini packet (early variety, I think it was called Sure Thing or something like that). I'm thinking of trying the lunchbox peppers from Johnny's next year since the grocery store minisweets didn't come true. I buy almost everything else from Fedco.

It would help if y'all started a new thread for each new query. Include a picture (preferably showing the whole plant, a close up of leaves, and flowers if any), and tell us how big it is and where you found the plant. Knowing whether it's in Florida or Michigan can help ID a plant. Mary, I would say posting your three plants in one thread works, but piggybacking on another thread gets confusing, especially since others have done the same here. Also, there's a Name That Plant forum here; the people who hang out there are friendly and knowledgeable about a wide variety of plants. ----------------------- Now that I got that off my chest, the first one Mary posted looks like a carrot relative--maybe fennel or queen ann's lace. #2 might be a hosta relative. I think #3 will have yellow flowers, but I don't know the name. Maybe an artemissia relative?
