cell phones for seniors

I am looking for a very simple cell phone without bells and whistles. Has anyone tried the Jitterbug? If so, do they like it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It should have large numbers.

I am not sure about Jitterbug but I can tell you that Verizon offers a phone for seniors, has larger numbers and very few bells and whistles......just the basics and it is not so small that it is hard to hold. I looked at the phone for my brother with PD, did not work for him because of the PD, but looked like a nice phone for the elderly.

I just heard an ad on the radio for AT&T and they not only have a phone for seniors they also have a special plan for people 65 and over.........I would check all the options out and then you can make your choice.

I'm on a Tracphone and mostly satisfied. Best feature is the cost. I pay about $100 per year and the minutes roll over. I did the extra cash up front for "lifetime" double minutes... that is life of the phone. First phone I had was not very good... second was more expensive and more powerful. At the moment I have over 2000 minutes because I don't use them all... may have wasted my money on the double thingy. Downsides! They will kick you off the air if it is busy. Not dropped... they just won't let you call or it will say "emergency only". Most of the time it works just fine but not at all during lunchtime when everyone is calling someone. Texting is poor because of the cheap phone but it does allow it. Texting is popular around here because we have weak signal and text will go when voice won't. I think they ding me 1/2 minute per text. I don't use it much but it is a nice option... helps to have a friend that will let you send a couple practice texts while learning how. I really like the voice mail! My home voice mail was often a pita... machine broke or ran out of room. Almost worth the phone just to have the mail. Tracphone has some really cheap phones. About $15 should get you the lowest which comes with a few starter minutes. If it works for you they have better phones available on the website. If you buy minutes for the cheap phone then get a better one they will transfer but that deactivates the old phone. I will probably watch this thread as I'd like something a bit better. Just waited 90 minutes to make an important call because the airwaves were "congested". Suppose the call got made... and emergency service was available if that had been the situation. : ) lyra

I believe both do have bluetooth but I never learned to use it. I will check it out. owbist; I always forget about youtube. However, I didn't see anything useful in your list. Remember, I had essentially succeeded in making a sim card transfe, but the data was not complete. The one on point post from your list also indicated incomplete data fields. I actually found that my transfer was worse than I originally thought. It only transferred the contact name and lost both the fact that the next contact was identical and thus a subset, but also lost any indication of the type of phone (work, home etc) and listed ALL entries as 'mobile'.

It depends on the phone and the carriers. There's a number of different types of service out there too. For instance different carriers use different frequencies (CDMA, PCS, GSM, etc) SIM cards are suggestive of GSM technology used by Tmo and ATT. If you're looking to use prepaid service you can sometimes use the phones but won't always have all the features. If you're looking for a contract service, then as cautioned before, beware of costs to change. Often the smallest thing will extend your contract. For instance, if you get a new phone, you generally get a new (extended) contract with hefty cancellation fees. You'll have to get more info from the companies, but generally speaking, Tmo will not be interchangeable with Virgin and Verizon. Tmo & AT&T are more likely to be options. Probably not answering your question, but not an easy question to answer!

This isn't a phone brand issue ... this is a battery issue. I've had a Macbook battery that did a partial melt ... my ipad battery is having issues ... my sister had a macbook battery that also charred ... so you should all probably get rid of your Apple products too! My son was also recently having battery issues with his Google phone overheating. Again, this is a battery technology issue. My husband is into remote control planes and he charges most of his batteries in special heat/explosion resistant containers. Just the nature of the technology. I'll continue to buy ipads and I'll continue to buy Samsung phones. My son will probably buy another Google phone. When you look at the total number of phones that have sold worldwide, the number of defective products is very small. I even owned the infamous Samsung Note 7, mine had no issues, but were still recalled. I've owned the Samsung Galaxy 7 without issues and will probably upgrade soon to a Note 9 or Galaxy 10, or wait for the Note 10 later this year.

I got a Kyocera K7 Rave phone with Virgin Mobile's pay-as-you-go service just like DH and I have. You can still buy them refurbished very cheap on the Virgin Mobile site; they are very basic. The buttons are not large, but my mother has no trouble punching them with a pencil eraser.

The great thing is, she is very hard of hearing but can hear better on this phone than on her hard-wired ones. There is one friend she only calls on the cell now, because the friend kind of mumbles. ;)

The minimum to keep the account current is $15 every 90 days.

I love the pay as you go phones. I also like things simple, but am managing ok with my Motorola.

I read in our local paper that consumers are getting tired of the contracts they have to sign and are going to prepaid. My cost is between $7. to $10 a month and the minutes roll over. I pay $100. a year, so I don't have to remember to renew the minutes so often. At that price I can't text or surf. I never use all of my minutes so I use it for long distance. I ordered T-Mobil To Go online and got a $125 phone for $30. I also carry the cell with me around the house in case of an emergency, you know, "I've fallen and can't get up". LOL

Be aware that Just 5 does not provide service. You have to take the SIM card out of your phone and put it into the Just5 phone. Also to get help with the SOS button on the back, 5 numbers must be programed into the phone. I would go with Verzon or another known company.

My elderly parents have jitterbugs. They are very simple phones but not cheap. 2 lines cost $65/month. I'm looking for better options.
