Comments (17)Ok - some followups: Lightlystarched - As someone who owns a French Door, I was clearing up your neighbors misconception so others here would not be mislead Vegas t - Hopefully you will really like it as we do. Like you - we did not want ice / water thru the door. had that on our old side by side - it broke twice and took up lots of freezer room. I love the little water dispenser inside - and the filter system is really nice. Plus the ice cube maker is very functional in the bottom freezer and doesn't take up lots of space like an in door unit does. Lm20021 - yes the french doors are very nice and take up lote less room when open - much better IMO than having a single huge door on a top-freezer model chipshot - yes - icemakers may be standard on most 25 cu ft models - but some are thru the door, some are in the bottom freezer. That does make a difference. I attached a link to the 25.8 cu ft Samsung french door with icemaker / water dispenser BUT not thru the door below so you can see what I mean Here is a link that might be useful: 25.8 cu ft Samsung...See MoreSide by side or French door bottom freezer fridge???
Comments (13)After thinking it over for months and visiting friends who have FD and SS units, I opted for the single door refridgerator above and freezer below. I found that having to open both doors each time I was looking for something was a royal pain and the storage on each side of the door was somewhat limited, meaning you could fit some things and not others. I can fit much more on the single unit door than the French door models. It's easier to open one door at any given time than two when you have your hands full. We also kept our old unit and put it in the garage for extra storage space for beverages, and a little extra freezer space. I also saw the bottom freezer as a drawback but it's made me become more organized with the way I freeze. I went out and bought a slew of squared off containers for sauces etc that fit great & I can readily see them when I'm searching. I had my mind set on a S by S before buying for the freezer aspect alone but as with some of the other comments, I wasn't wild about the limited width of the fridge side. If I could add on to my house I would get the full size freezer and full size fridge units I've seen recently but that's not happening anytime soon!! :) Here is a link that might be useful: True side by side...See MoreFridge quandry: Which 'Bottom-Freezer, French-Door' fridge?!
Comments (13)After MUCH research , I bought a Kenmore French Door w/ice & water in the door. I previously had 3 different side by sides. My last SBS was two years old and ruined by Hurricane Ike. I also had a separate freezer in the garage that wasn't replaced. I discovered that I didn't need a separate freezer due to the extra freezer space gained with the French Door model. The French Door style accommodates larger items that will not fit in the narrow side by side freezer. I love the french door style. The ice and water feature on the outside causes the loss of some fridge space, but I was willing to make that sacrifice. My first SBS was one of the very first made by Sears, a Coldspot. It lasted 26 years or so. I hope this Kenmore will last as long. (I know I won't last that long)...See MoreFrench door bottom freezer fridge without ice maker?
Comments (21)I have seen several French Door fridges with no icemaker in the door. I made the mistake of buying a LG French Door with the icemaker. Long story short, I had the thing worked on at least 5 times by the time it was 5 years old. I've had a recall because of interior lights staying on and catching peoples houses on fire, a computer board went out. The icemaker went out and I had it replaced to the tune of $600 for the parts and repairman. But it never worked at all even after he replaced it. Repair man said it needed another couple of hundred worth of work. I just quit spending money on it at that point. I'm building again and this house will have a Side by Side GE with the door ice and water dispenser. The icemaker is the 10 LBS arctic one. The LG will be in the garage for a beer cooler. Pretty sad for a fridge that is only 6.5 years old....See Moreberryberry
