Please. I am looking for positive feedback from those who know what they are talking about. Is anyone else interested in collecting beautiful old things? Or is it just a bunch of haters out there? I doubt that. A true collector is a loving and giving spitit. Let's share our collections just for the joy of it. Those who just want to share what they already have are welcome here.

Quirkpod is all over the other forums, and she really does collect hats. I don't believe this thread is spam. Pardon us, Quirkie........we've had a lot of really junky spamming lately and we're gun-shy. I love old hats too, and believe it or not, there are sites where retro fashion is sold. I love old hats, too, but I have long hair and don't wear most hats well. In fact, they make me look like Boy George. LOL.

I do buy up really retro clothing, and have a penchant for Sixties and prior wool suits. I found a designer wool suit in a charity shop. The real McCoy. Fifties. In the last job I had where clothes were a necessity, I often did wear clothes older than many of my workmates, compliments of my mother's friend. They were very well constructed, lined and with details one doesn't find in even the better dresses now.

Sorry....I thought you were trying to sell your hats and recreated old style costumes.
I have my share of "beautiful old things"....hats dresses, suits as well as furniture, dishes, silverware and all things in between.
I have a lovely old hat made of horse hair which my mother wore to my brother's baptism in 1945, and one even older made of beautiful black straw that was my grandmother's. I could wear either today and no one would blink.
Classic is always good.
I know a woman known as "The hat lady" who will do a program for your group for a reasonable fee. She packs up some of her hats and has a patter to go with it and does a very entertaining 40 minute show.

If you ever want to get rid of your vintage hats,high schools or colleges love them for plays. I had a few & sold 3-4 at yard sale & then found out the school would love them DD was in a play at the time! 1 I gave away I kept the jewelry pin tho, It was lovely & I still wear it, it was very well made. I no longer wear hats but love old jewelry,& the little pin cushions that bob up & down. I have a turtle & a cat.Think they are both by Flozenza??Might be spelled wrong, eyesight isn't right yet, had migraine for 2 days.Florenza might be it, Can't read it even with magnifying glass & flashlight I've tried to find out about co. that made them but never found anything.

Hi all, sunnyca I believe the company is Florenza owned by Dan Kassoff 1950-1981 copyright symbol used after 1955 as to help date your piece They were located in New York City hope that helps with research on your piece. I also love old hats and do have a few.

Please--don't give vintage clothes to any high schools without checking first. You could be giving away treasures to people who'll trash them. Check out my link for info about a woman who buys fashion collections for auction.

I have about 40 or so vintage hats, I don't get to wear them much, Easter and such. Recently I lent them to lady who threw a birthday party for a friend, it was a tea party and she supplied the hats and gloves, they had a blast. Also my DH and I went to The Grand Hotel murder mystery weekend one year. Everyone dresses in period clothes. I had plenty hats, jelwery, furs and bags. It was a dream as was the rest of Mackinac Island. Vintage hats and furs are getting hard to find, I used to get them really cheap, now I hardly ever see anything pre 80's.

In my neighborhood everyone wears vintage hats and clothes, but then with the current state of the economy i bet we will see even more ppl shopping at Goodwill.

Wendy177, thanks so much for info on my 2 pin cushions!! I will put a tag on each of them. Drives me crazy when I have something & can't find out anything about it. I too wore hats, gloves & girdles at 1 time, don't miss the girdles at all. Why I thought I needed 1 is beyond me. I was size 5 at the time, guess you go with the crowd!!

Hey, those are great newdawn! Love the way they're displayed, too, very original. I'm a wide brim hat person (cuz I look silly in those little ones from the 30's with a straight down brim, whatever that's called :D ). Most I have (not vintage) is one for blustery winter days and one for hot summer vacation days, otherwise it's a pink or khaki baseball cap if hiking or working in hot sun, lol. But I do think ladies looked like ladies and men like gents with a nice dress/suit and snappy hat on! Like Jackie, she could really wear a hat!

Thanks for understanding. No one wants these hats but us, and I was hoping to find such a group just to talk to about the styles and how to wear them, despite their low dollar value. I, too, am a wide brim girl since they look best on tall athletic frame, and I guess, the shape of the face. Everyone wears a wide-brim hat differently; some on a tilt, some flat on top of the head. There is a man here who owns an antique store. He has a collection of vintage clothing he sells and rents to movie studios. Just an idea....
