I thought this forum was about questiona people have about antiques and stories of fantastic finds and new information on frauds and reproductions....not a site for appraisals and spammers.
Last weekend I went to a tag sale, it was advertised as selling the last of the estate iof a woman who would have been about 120 and her son who died last year at age 80 ( he was the baby!!)
It was advertised as "Vintage clothing, collectables, fine jewelry, silver crystal and linens"
In reality, there were 3 items of vine vintage clothing, lots of silver plate and short sets of bar glasses, a few sterling spoons, a couple of diamond rings with fractured stones....and lots of garage sale junk....All very over priced!
The sale manager will pack it all into her truck and take it to Texas....the Dallas Ft Worth area....so watch for it! LOL!

Because of the nature of the antique/collectibles business, I think that this forum is just in a position to be targeted by spammers. I also visit the sewing, knitting and quilting forums and it doesn't happen at those. Those of us who have textile-related businesses just more law-abiding, I guess. 8^)

I collect antique sewing machines and have them all over my house. There are nine in my living room/office alone! Here's how I'm using one machine in a beautiful oak "parlor" cabinet:

If you look closely, you can also see the ends of the antique skis I have hung over my windows, too.

Annie, my wife is a quilter also and yours is beautiful. My mother's family is from Scotland by West Virginia. When my wife and I were married in 1962, one of my West virginia aunts hand sewed us a beautiful quilt as a wedding present. She was 85 at the time.

I check in this forum about every day - & I couldn't agree more that lately most of it is spam or valuation of yardsale finds. Boring!!!

I thought I would post a pic of my latest silver acquisition but, alas, I haven't put it on PhotoBucket & my camera is at home. Later. Texasredhead, how about posting a photo of that table? It makes me drool to think of such a find.

I also read this section often. I have tons of family antiques and am always looking for more information about them, including what they might be worth.

You all have tons of knowledge, and I appreciate the information you give me about what I have. Or what other people have ..

Including when you tell me NOT to sell something (Antique Linens) as they wouldn't be appreciated by the people who would purchase them.

Texasredhead: Thanks for the compliment on the quilt. It is a "round robin"--a quilt that travels from quilter to quilter, each one adding a border. This one went from me in Wisconsin to Celina, TX to Houston, TX to Pennsylvania, to southern CA to northeastern CA and then back to me for quilting. I absolutely love it! I've been a quilter for about 20 years, have had a business machine quilting for sewing machine collectors (I do all my sewing on treadle sewing machines) and now have a pattern design company with a friend. I LOVE quilting!

To all of the "bored" people who come here and find what they percieve to be someone else's "yardsale" find!!! I say this--- all of us did not have high end antiques right off the bat!! These peoples "yardsale finds" are as important to them as your STUFF!! is to you!! Come down off of your high horses and help them out if you can -- OR LEAVE. Now I will get down off of my "antique soapbox"

Mark, there's no high horse about it. People show up with a photo, ask what it is or how much it's worth and vanish, never to be seen again. Sometimes they don't know how to google, sometimes, they don't get the answer they want, and sometimes, there's just no nice way to tell them they're spammers.

We all like yardsale stuff (as far as I can tell, and I've been on these forums for a while--at least as far back as Spike and trips to Disneyland). It's the hit and run posters who wear me out, sometimes.

I think a lot of people don't have time to google day after day or don't find anything while googling, so they turn to forums like this for another collector's opinion. It's nice that there are people on this site that are faithful users but it surely isn't a crime for those that hit and run.

I recently bought a Singer centennial 66-18. I wanted a machine that my husband could repair without a Masters in computer science!

Do you have any sources for replacement parts that you could suggest? I've been googling -- but I haven't found what I would consider a good source.

Your home, quilts and machines are beautiful. I'm going to be drooling over your pictures for quite sometime! And I have to study your quilt studio -- I don't quilt but I knit, spin, sew and have just gotten my first loom. We are in the process of working on a new fiber studio...... so I may steal some ideas from you.

In defense of the yard salers seeking an appraisal, sometimes it's difficult to find out anything about a piece unless you know what to call it....and that's where most of us can help.
However, I think a lot of those yard sale finds end up on ebay and some come here to find out how to list it and a good starting price.

I'm waiting for Antiquesilver's picture of the latest find.

Cathy--What parts do you need for your machine?

Annie -- I really don't need anything at this moment. But I would like to find true Singer needles (instead of Viking or Bernina) oil, and maybe a new belt. I question how long it will last.

Or am I better off with Viking needles?

I'm am stuck with only JoAnn Fabrics for supplies.

You can use any 15 x 1 needle in your 66. I personally use Singer needles and Schmetz work fine, too. You should be able to get them at JoAnn's. Belts are no biggie, either. I get the Singer belt/bobbin winder in a set thing at Walmart. If you can't find them, try Cindy Peters at stitchesintime@earthlink.net

She specializes in parts and supplies for vintage sewing machines.

Thanks for the comments on my studio--I keep hoping to have time to make some minor changes, most specifically moving my cutting table a couple of feet so that I can move my ironing board. With winter coming, I'll be spending even more time in the studio and I'd like to set up an entertainment center in the closet that the ironing board is currently in front of.

I guess that's the problem with expectations, one is often disappointed...
I don't have anything worth anything, anything I had that was of any value I ebayed years ago...
The only reason I come here is to see what Linda has commented on or sourced for someone lately. It amazes me that she can be so knowledgeable about so many antique areas, can answer so many (often inane) questions about items and never once seem to have a peeved off attitude to her responses - must have one heck of a high patience level!
And the other reason I come here is to covet her pink china...lol.
If we go into something with an open mind and no expectations there is no room for disappointment.
