Is this a weird towel holder spot?

Dh is redoing our upstairs bathroom which he shares with my teenage son, (allowing me private use of the Master BR for which I'm very grateful). Since I'll seldom be in the "boys" BR, hubby has picked the majority of fixtures, ie lighting, tiles, marble top. I just peeked in to see the progress and was slightly aghast to see he mounted his hand towel holder (a half round polished chrome from Rest. Hardware) above the vanity to the right of the centered mirror. I've never seen a hand towel holder in this spot....a spot which looks like it should be reserved for a side light to the mirror (he placed a 3-lt fixture atop the mirror instead). He said he had no other room for the towel holder and it makes "perfect sense" to reach up to this locale to dry ones hands. I just think it looks out of place there and would prefer to see a towel placed on the vanity top instead (just lying on counter). Should I just keep my mouth shut and let hubby complete the BR as he wishes, or does anyone else think that it'd be a shame to put a fixture in an odd place.....everything he's chosen is in nice taste and good quality so far, but I'm afraid this move is a faux pas which might ruin the look of the BR.

Yes, I think it sounds a little strange.
But, it is HIS bathroom and also easy to change out later, if you like.
I would leave it alone, and enjoy your private bath!

They are dark brown and can be over 2 inches long and 1 inch wide, excluding legs, antenna, and wingspan. My brother called them flying dates. At one point in his late teens, he worked at the (name redacted) restaurant, the "best" eating establishment in town. The cook said that after turning off the lights one night, he found it necessary to reenter the kitchen and found a cloud of them fluttering around in the kitchen when he turned on the lights. We never patronized this establishment again! They live outdoors as well as indoors, so when you work in the garden, you find them in your planters, bromeliads, orchids, and mulch. My mother had one fly in her face and get tangled in her hair. She was quite traumatized by this episode. No matter how clean you are, the roaches in the yard will send colonizing expeditions into your home. The natives refuse to admit these things are roaches! They call them palmetto bugs and insist they are not related to roaches!

Towel bars or towel hooks??? Help!

Is there any reason not to use robe hooks instead? Many of them look better to me, but they also need to hang onto the towels. The white rubber tip is ingenious, but I'm thinking about how they look when empty (these would be for guests, they could also use them to hang up their clothes when showering.) I have also thought of sewing the loops on the towels, but it seems like that would make them hang even more compressed, and less likely to dry. But in our climate, if you stay so long your towel smells moldy, it is probably time to go home! (But I have lived places where that seems to happen almost immediately, so your mileage may vary) Are some shapes better than others for keeping the towels on? At my in-laws, they fall off before you even turn around, so it's something I'm sensitive to.

haha marcolo--funny thing....I think he DOES understand! If you could have heard the conversation over the phone. I'm moving my hands as if he could see me....very funny. It wasn't even like I could draw him a sketch. He is really good at listening and he "got it" ! frazestart, nope. I couldn't watch the video for some reason, but I did see the still photos...nope, not it. sjerin--what is it that would hurt your back? I currently keep the towels on a towel bar right inside the door now, I just don't want to screw something into the new cabinet doors. In fact, I heard the cabinetmaker cringe when I said those words to him...haha Thanks for all the help!

Paper Towels: On a vertical stand next to my sink. I like having them handy. It is an inexpensive one from Target. In the past, I had them hanging under the upper cabinets. After we remodeled, I needed a new solution. I didn't think the countertop one would be stable, but it is and I really like it. I enjoying being able to grab the whole roll and take it to another room if I need to. Wet dish towels: I have a Rev-a-shelf hanging rod thing on the inside of one of my cabinet doors under the sink. I only use it occasionally though. Usually I have a dishtowel folded in half laying/hanging right on the counter where I stand at the sink. I use it for drying my hands, fruit, dishes, etc. throughout the day. It dries quickly. I have a dish drainer on one side of my double sink, so anything I hand wash usually just dries in there. If I've entertained and have extra hand washing with more dishes on a towel on the counter, then those go on the racks under the sink until they dry. Sometimes if I have one that is really wet and yucky, I just throw it on the tile floor in my laundry room (closet). It is the only tile I have in the whole house (I like to take advantage of it.) :) Cutting boards: In a vertically divided cabinet in one of my lowers. Plastic bags: I donate them to a food bank, so I throw them in the trunk of my car until I see my friend who takes them for me. :)

His bathroom, his choice. Unless you want him changing things in YOUR bathroom, I'd walk away.

Actually, I think it sounds ok, without seeing it.... I have a tight spot in my tiny powder, and to the left of the mirror is where a round handtowel went!

But definitely ditto on the other sentiment....

Post a picture if you can. It sounds perfectly fine to me. Form follows function, remember. Personally, I'd HATE a wadded up towel laying on the counter getting moldy.

Take a look at the recent post titled House Beautiful Best Bathrooms of 2008. The 6th picture shows a pedestal sink with a towel hanging to the left. Is this similar to what your DH has done? At first I thought it looked odd but it does make functional sense to have a towel above the sink or vanity surface. One of the things I hate is when a hand towel is placed in such a way that the floor always gets drips from wet hands reaching for the towel.

flseadog, I actually did check out that pic prior to posting and thought it looked OK, but my husband mounted the towel holder say where the side light is in the picture, except a few inches lower. It's just too close to the mirror IMO but there's no room to put it off to the side as in the picture. I'll try to snap a pic of it tomorrow (if I remember how...I don't think I've posted pics in these forums for literally a few years). I should add the mirror isn't up yet because it hasn't arrived, but the dimensions are marked off on the wall with painters tape.

In my just redone (with pictures to be posted soon), I put little hooks for handtowels to the side of each of the mirrors, almost even with the bottom of the mirror. I think it looks perfectly normal to have a handtowel there. Not so sure about having a bath towel in that location though, but as others have said, if you don't use that room, I'd leave it alone.

OK, just snapped a pic-hope I can get it in my post. Excuse the unpainted walls, messy vanity top and "mirror" outlined in tape. It'll be a black framed mirror from Rest Hardware. I think the hand towel bar should be moved over to the right, in the narrow spot btw the end of vanity and toilet.

I actually think it looks fine as he has it. More convenient to reach than it would be further to the right.

Looks good to me, then again, I realized that I also did the same not only in the powder room, but in the upstairs bathroom... it works!!

It's not where the towel hanger is that's important..it's whether he's going to actually hang the towel UP! His bathroom, his choice of towel placement I say! That and I'd pay $$$ to have a man who actually noticed that there was a towel.. or towel hanger at all in the bathroom. You have a keeper LOL!

Country cottage beat me to it- exactly what I was going to say! Hey, you know the old adage about 'picking your battles'? I'd back away slowly and go soak in my own bath! :>)
