I've seen this coloration near the edges of some my leaves. I've only seen it on newly rooted cuttings. My guess would be sunburn on the young leaves of newly rooted plant... just a guess though. Are the other leaves on this plant similar? If the other leaves look fine it's probably not sunburn.

It could be sunburn I guess as it is on the newer leaves mostly. The plant has so much foilage that only the younger ones are getting it. The others are shaded. It is on the west side of the yard and gets pretty hot afternoon sun. So, that is probably a good guess. Best one so far anyhow!
Although the other plant is only several feet away and not affected (?) Different types of plumeria have different sun tolerences maybe?

Hi John,
take your finger and see if it scratches off...then take a scot towel and see if it washes off. If so. Its sap. When my daisy wilcox and others, the leaves get very warm they put out sap bubbles all over the leaves. Then in the heat, it dries. I have some like this..wash them off and then dry the leaves if going to be warm..looks like dried sap.
my neighbor next door to me, has a 20 yr old plastic pink plant..huge, 10 to 15' tall.. it has sap everywhere, drips on you at times..gorgeous tree, but a mess.

What are the two little black spots with the yellow halos towards the middle? I have no idea what the other discoloration is either.

Boy you have good eyes.. ha I didn't see the spots..Oh dear John..now you have a spot. Now I have a healthy and irritating grasshopper, happy to send him to you. If I can catch him..ha ..he is eating my leaves, now that is another irritating problem...something is eating one of my plumeria leaves, just totally destroying one leaf, swift.

Hey John,

Haven't talked to you or Lauri in awhile. Hope you're both okay and that maybe you got a seedling or two. I have some leaves that look like this. It sometimes happens to mine when the wind blows and it brushes against other leaves. I have to stagger my plants, tall, short, etc. otherwise the leaves get injured from brushing against one another. Take a look and see, if that is the case you might want to mover her, of course it may just be sunburn but I noticed it's only at the edges of the plants and when mine get sunburned it's usually not confined like that. Hope this might help a little.

Could be as this plant has a lot of leaves. They may be brushing against each other. It is not close to any other plants or anything else for that matter. The plant seems to be doing good, just unsightly spots on the leaves. I guess I'm being to picky, just was hoping it wasn't some kind of nutrient deficiency. My 2 seedlings are doing good by the way. Big Bertha is outsizing Bertha II. But they both look good so far.

To Karen B...thanks for the offer of the grass hopper, but I think I'll pass on that one :-) Florida has plenty of hoppers and every thing else! LOL

My plumies are pretty much the only thing I have that isn't bothered by bugs. Occasionally they take a taste but they move on. Even my Dragon fruit has more pest problems than my plumeria. The only thing that freaks me out in Fl are the Palmetto bugs, giant flying cockaroaches! They are so @#$% gross.

John if not too many leaves are affected I might be tempted to remove and destroy them, just to be on the safe side. It very well could be from the sun or something like that but why take a chance?

They are pretty nasty aren;t they! I just crunch em and move on :-)

I think they'll be losing the leaves in about a month or so but if the plant starts taking a nose nive, I'll do something.

My leaves are doing the same as yours but I have more spots than you. I don't worry about them since they will be going dormant soon and the plants are still growing nicely.
I'm really surprised that I haven't gotten the dreaded rust for 2 years now, but it won't kill the plants either.
I look at my plants as "let nature take it's course"!

I'm not REAL concerned about it. I kinda agree with you, about nature taking it's course. Not to sound mean, but, I feel better now, knowing that someone else in Florida has it. As far as the rust goes, I have plenty if you need some!
LOL I'm not real concerned about that either though, as like you said, they'll be going dormant shortly.

FloridaÂs flying cockroaches really are disgusting creatures. I hated them when I was a teenager living in Fort Myers. The mother of a friend of mine allowed huge tropical tarantulas to roam through her house in order to control them. At the time I thought the mother was a total demented freak, but given that the roaches probably consider pesticides to be delicacies, this woman may have been a visionary ahead of her time!

what do those flying cockroaches look like..ick to the max...hate bugs. Are they Dark green and big? have some of those occasionally. I have so many wasps, I read a article sent to me..to use pure vodka in a spray bottle, it kills them..good grief, what might it do to your stomach. ha we are in a black widow season now, not great.

They are dark brown and can be over 2 inches long and 1 inch wide, excluding legs, antenna, and wingspan. My brother called them flying dates. At one point in his late teens, he worked at the (name redacted) restaurant, the "best" eating establishment in town. The cook said that after turning off the lights one night, he found it necessary to reenter the kitchen and found a cloud of them fluttering around in the kitchen when he turned on the lights. We never patronized this establishment again! They live outdoors as well as indoors, so when you work in the garden, you find them in your planters, bromeliads, orchids, and mulch. My mother had one fly in her face and get tangled in her hair. She was quite traumatized by this episode. No matter how clean you are, the roaches in the yard will send colonizing expeditions into your home. The natives refuse to admit these things are roaches! They call them palmetto bugs and insist they are not related to roaches!

Yes they are pretty gross. I am a native of Florida and I have no problem calling a roach a roach. I have seen quite a few people go through what your mom went through, and yes it can be pretty scary having one of these things fly at you, or into your face. Sorry to hear of her bad experience.
I want to say you get use to seeing them, but in reality, all I want to do is smash em when I see em.
Oh yeah, remind me to avoid all eating establishments in the Fort Myers area...

oh those bugs sound gross, bugs freak me out. We have a bight green big bug, almost runs into you. think I am more bothered by the black widow spiders now, amock..all over garages, everywhere, plus reluse. All dangerous ones. WEnt over to our other garage, where we have our classic cars, they were hanging off tail pipes, antennas, doorways..oh boy.

I think I would be more bothered also by the BW & BR spiders. Palmetto bugs are pretty gross, but harmless, except for scaring the heck out of you. Recluse bites can get very nasty.

Here's a pic of the whole plant in the yard. The one with the weird spots. It's only a couple feet high with 5 growing tips. Pretty bushy. I think it's just a commom white variety, but it should make a nice tree. Other 2 plants are brug cuttings someone sent me.
