boots and dress

Would wearing boots with a dress make it more casual? I have a wedding to go to and was considering wearing knee high boots with it instead of heels. What do you think? The dress is pretty casual as it is so I don't want to go even more casual. Thanks.

From what you're describing, I think dressy shoes would make your dress more suitable for a wedding. I like the look of boots with a dress, but not for an occasion like this.

I agree with Mitchdesj.I think boots with a dress are fine,but not really suitable for a wedding.

I think I have fuschia nail polish! I would not have thought of it. It may come down to timing. French I would have done where I can do a regular color at home, IF I have time. One of my close friends is laughing because she has known me since we were 15 and she has never seen me be so concerned with what I'm wearing. ha ha.... This black dress I have had in my closet for years. I never wore it because it didn't look good as it doesn't hide extra pounds very well. I don't even remember why I have it. Well, I tried it on. I have a love affair with dresses of all kinds. In the summer I live in them, with flip flops or sandals. In the colder months I wear tights, but for more dressy occasions I have absolutely no problem wearing pantyhose, choosing black with dark dresses and ultra sheer nude with other dresses. This works with close-toed pumps. In more conservative professions women who wear skirts and dresses wear hose. My daughters' find the best, most natural ones. Annie's first example shows what can go wrong with hose! I would hope women who wear hose with slacks and sandals would opt for "sandal hose" and not ones reinforced at the toe! Better yet, ditch the hose all together. Why wear them with slacks? Sheilaaus, with the dress you describe I would stick to black (no toe) hose for the glitzy open toed shoes, but nude no-toe hose could work too-personal preference. The hose police won't be at the event, so be comfortable. You'll see all kinds of choices!

Lars, I live in NYC so black is a required basic, though that jacket is navy blue. I get that it looks kind of astronaut like, but on it slims and is reminiscent of a motorcycle jacket. I was planning on taking some sewing lessons, but what I really want to do is learn how to alter my own clothes. I have a petite upper body and a larger bottom half. Dresses are always an issue and tops are frustrating. I love everyone's purchases and hope they bring you joy. I also bought a new sit-stand work table that is motorized and a light pad for my stained glass work. I will not be buying the boots as they will probably be too wide. I love different colored footwear. I currently have bright blue oxfords, red flats and pumps, and fuchsia loafers along with the usual assortment of blacks, browns and navy. I was losing weight then the pandemic hit and I have gained all I lost back. Not that I lost a lot. I will buy a few more things but I truly don't need anything. Next I will lose weight. IdaClaire is a role model. I am tired of feeling less than great. I have had some health challenges including pulmonary issues which will never get better, but with my hiking daily I am gaining better function and feeling better.

Frequently, the things I sell are NWT, but often several years old. Here is an extreme example from several years ago. I purchased an indoor jacket that just didn’t fit quite right. I was going to a meeting in Chicago and needed the weight of the jacket so I kept it. On the way to the airport, we had a car wreck. I never made it to the meeting and never got the jacket altered. After pushing it around in my closet for several years, I sold it. Another example is I bought a cute pair of light blue suede flats. The blue just didn’t go with anything I had. I kept thinking I would get something that would work with them. Never did. Finally sold the shoes. My NWT sales are usually the result of poor judgment on my part coupled with unrealistic optimism that the item will have a metamorphosis and look better in the future. By the time reality sets in, it is too late to return it.

That's what I thought. My friend is trying to convince me to wear boots.

Well...then again,is it a really casual wedding? I have been to some where anything goes and some people wear jeans.If it is casual it might be ok...if it is more formal,then I would go with heels or flats instead of boots.

And some boots are fairly dressy (stiletto with sleek leather and pointy toe) so it's not a given either way.

depends on the boots, depends on the dress, depends on the wedding party...and definately depends on the weather, since dress shoes with frost-bitten toes is never fun ;)

you can dress a less than formal outfit up by dressing YOU up - hair done, lips lined, nails coordinating, better jewelry, maybe a fancy shawl/throw/silk scarf?

OMG ... I just saw this thread. I attended a wedding the week before Christmas and wore a pair of winter white (cream colored) boots paired with a houndstooth jumper and charmeuse blouse. The jumper is fitted and the blouse has a nice attached bow so I think the look was not too casual. As someone mentioned previously the boots need to be "dressy" to really make it work, mine have a pretty high-heel 3.5". It was a day time wedding and I think it worked well. But I was sure glad to take the heels off after a couple of hours at the reception!
