I vote for red. The green door might hit the commode. It looks like the only open wall for a towel rack is between the vanity and commode. Red is easier access to that towel rack as you step out of the shower. And, if I understand you right, red also allows opening the door just a crack to turn on the water.
But, red doesn't give you easy access to the little closet or to the main door which could hold a bath robe hook, etc.

I vote for green. Should there ever be an emergency situation, the red choice would make it very difficult to remove a person from the shower and bathroom.

Can you add a pocket door as the entry, which would free up the wall where the door currently swings to be able to hang towels etc? Or I'd consider a small set of double doors for the linen closest enabling less of a door swing.

To answer your question I'd go with red.

A pocket door for the main bath entry can't work because there's a recessed medicine cabinet over the sink that I didn't draw in, and to the other side, there's a closet. The small linen closet is only 18" wide (15" door), so double doors there would be just too, too small.

The wall between the sink and toilet has a window, so that can't be used for anything larger than a hand towel by the sink and TP holder by the toilet. So no bath towels there...

Really, the only possible locations to hang a bath towel (I strongly prefer hooks to bars) would be:
1 - On the back of the main door,
2 - On the wall behind the main door when it's open,
3 - On the face of the linen closet door (not really liking that),
4 - On the wall behind the linen closet door,
5 - I don't think there's enough room by the toilet without risking an accidental 'dip' - yuck!

I guess those towel locations would argue for the 'green' swing direction, but I would need to find a way to keep the glass shower door from banging into the front of the toilet. The door will be about 6" off the ground... Are there hinge stops for bathroom doors?

I don't know how much this would help your issues, but have you thought of using a curtain for the little linen closet instead of a door? Or just not having a door and having open shelves instead?

Either of those options might make it easier to hang the towel on the wall of the shower closest to the linen closet. Of course, you'd want the green door then, which still leaves you with the door banging into the toilet. Maybe you need a big old bumper glued to the toilet. :)

The problem with green is that it forces you to awkwardly shuffle around to open the door from outside. With red, you can access the sink, toilet, and shower all from the same spot. Not that you would use them all at once, but I think it makes for a more user-friendly footprint.

I would put a towel hook on the left wall between the sink and toilet. You might also consider a handle(inside)/bar(outside) combo for the shower door to provide another hanging spot.

You've got a good point about the awkward position to open the shower door using the green swing -- though I'm not sure how much better it would be with the red swing. It's fine to open it a bit for turning on the water, but opening it all the way requires a wrist-cock around the door, or a shift from the outer handle to an inner one. Having a towel bar on the shower door itself would solve the problem, but I don't want to do that since the shower doorway will have an arched opening, and the tilework surrounding that arch will be a thing of beauty. I don't want to distract the eye from it.

The problem with your suggested towel position is that there really *isn't* any wall space on the wall between the sink and toilet. That entire (smallish) area is occupied by a window. Hanging a towel to the left of the window dangles it in the sink; to the right of the window risks dangling it it the toilet.

While we've been referring to it as a 'linen closet', in reality, I suspect it'll be more of a 'bath pantry' with all sorts of uglyish bottles and toilet paper and odds & ends rather than neatly stacked linens. For that reason, I definitely do want some sort of door.

Our old house had a shower with 2 small doors that met in the middle, and didn't leak, by the way. (French doors? wardrobe doors?) As you see, I don't know what they are called, but if you can find someone to make them, this might be a possible solution.

Have you already purchased the shower? I just installed one in my new 3/4 bath which solves the problem completely-- It is made by aquaglass company and I bought it at Lowes-- it is a corner shower like yours but the front is round, and the door is a sliding door which is also the same round shape and curves around with the base of the shower, and it is WONDERFUL. But you may be doing some sort of completely tiles shower which would be very different from this. It is a very well-designed shower though and has storage shelves all the way up the corner as well as a foot rest for shaving built in! It also feels much bgger than it is, mine has been installed for only a couple of weeks but we are all fighting over it already! Otherwise I like the green swing much better-- easier to "escape" in case of emergency, as well being able to leave it open to dry sometimes without impeding the doorway. I think red looks awkward.

That round-front shower looks fabulous, and would have been great except that we already have our hearts set on something else.

And the double doors is a neat idea - but again, given all of the other decisions we've already committed to, I think a single door will work better. I think we'll go with the green swing for 'door-salad' and escape reasons, and also because a person showering would be able to reach into the little closet for a bottle of shampoo or soap.

I fell in love with a line of tile (Westminster) that has a special 24" arch trim, and we decided to feature this tiled arch in a sage'y green as the bathroom's focal point. The shower's fixtures will be the Hudson Reed exposed-valve rain-shower, and the sink will be a porcelain console. So I'm really wanting the shower door to be 'invisible' so the eye focuses on the tiled arch and beautiful plumbing.

Are you getting a custom glass door? If so, you could get one that hinges to allow you to push the door both into and out of the shower, in other words a bi-swing hinge (hope that is a real term and makes sense). If you could do that, you should put the hinges opposite the wall with the shower fixtures. You can then push the door in to turn on the shower, then exit by either pulling it into the shower (tho you probably don't have room for that) or pushing out.

We did this type of shower door and it's brilliantly efficient. It also prevents the door from awkwardly hanging into the bathroom space, as it self closes. Only problem is that it's more pricey.
