Looking for non-glass mosaic blends

I've read enough to scare me away from trying to set glass mosaic myself but I'm having trouble finding ceramic or porcelain mosaic blends. Anyone out there know of a source? I want to cover everything in the bathroom, floor and walls, inside the shower and out.

I may end up with glass yet - there's so much out there I like.

Both American Olean and Romany Spartan carry several different "blends".

InterCeramic has some lovely blends at, IIRC, a very attractive price point also.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely look into the talavera tiles. They look neat. I love Oceanside (we have a custom blend from them in our upstairs bath), but yeah, their colors are too soft. I had already tried the modwalls and susan jablon blending tools. They are good possibilities, but I was just wondering if there were more options in case I can't find the exact shades I want. I'm not super picky about the red, blue, yellow, and orange, but I have a specific lime green in mind. I guess I'll order some samples and visit some showrooms. I'm getting excited about this bathroom, but then I remember how stressful it was to do the other one, and we didn't even do the work ourselves! At least this one will be simpler, and we already have some of the pieces. And it's tiny, so hopefully it won't be too bad. I'll remember to take "before" pictures this time, so everyone can see how hideous it was. It literally has 9 different types of tile in it, plus some weird synthetic kitchen counter material on the walls.

I can help!!! I actually just finished an exact copy of this kitchen - but instead of using Kraftmaid, I had my local cabinet maker copy the cabinets. I did email Kraftmaid and they were very helpful giving me the answers to all my questions. The backsplash they used is the Casa Dolce Casa but when I received a sample of if from the tile store I work with, I wasn't happy with the finish. It had some chipped edges and I was looking for something a bit more "clean". I ended up using Onyx Opala Beige 1x1 Glass Mosaic tiles and it is absolutely beautiful! I'm in the process of grouting (using Jamo Heather)and should finish by end of this week. As soon as I finish the backsplash, the cabinet makers will install the vent hood, the panels for the subzero fully integrated fridge, double draw dishwasher and wine fridge, and install the hardware that I just received this week. I'm not a professional decorator. I live in Florida and have lots of friends who have second homes (condo's) here and I help them manage their remodeling projects and work with their GC's while they are not here. As a result, I end up helping them select cabinets, counter tops, backsplashes, appliances, etc. So much fun! I have completed six kitchens in the past 24 months and my favorite is this one. My friend saw the same pictures you saw and wanted to duplicate it. It is the most elegant kitchen I have ever seen. It's both traditional and modern (transitional?). I used a beautiful quartz counter top (Kraftmaid used granit.) It's breath-takingly beautiful! I'm new to this site and haven't learned how to post pictures yet but will do so and post picture of the kitchen when it is finished. I also learned that the glass in the cabinets is clear - it's the inside of the cabinets that are the dark brown color.

ahhh I see, my mistake. But I'm really glad that you liked what you heard. They play Dallas at least once per year, usually at the Granada Theater when they're headlining. I would highly recommend checking them out, as the live setting is where they truly shine. They're just honest, clean-living, hard-working guys(150+ shows per yr for the past several yrs) doing what they love. As the parent of a 14 year-old daughter, I also appreciate the fact that I don't have to squirm or cover her ears during their songs, unlike most of the 'music' on popular radio these days. They're a little bit country, a little bit bluegrass/old-timey, a little bit rock & roll. As a country music fan, tell me that this song below wouldn't be #1 with a bullet if, say, Rascal Flatts or someone covered it. It's a music video that they shot from a couple years back. Glass/stone blend mosaic tiles for backsplash?

jjnv: we did not seal the tiles before applying them to the wall. If I am recalling correctly the salesperson at the tile store said not to seal the tiles. That it might make them cloudy looking. I don't remember what the instructions said that came with the tiles. I had one sheet of tiles left over and just checked to see if the stone tiles changed color. They look the same as the ones on the wall. I don't know what kind of stone is in my mosaic blend but it all appears to be the same type. The individual stone tiles do have some color variation within them. Also the majority of my mosaic blend is different types/colors of glass. If your mix is more stone than glass and the directions say to seal it first then that's probably what you should do. The sales person also said we needed to use unsanded grout so the glass and stainless tile would not get scratched. We purchased the grout from the tile store it is Polyblend Unsanded. It is also available at some of the big box stores in stock colors or it can be ordered in other colors on line. I just read some things about it on a tile forum and some of the tile experts prefer other brands of unsanded polymer fortified grout. I also just looked at the instructions on my left over grout box and it says to seal the grout with Surface Guard Penetrating Sealer. Oop, I didn't follow directions! Oh well the grout is doing fine without it so I am not going to seal it now. I think if I had a light colored grout I would probably seal the grout lines. If you are doing your own tiling and grouting yourself you might want to go online to the the John Bridge tile forum. It has lots of great advice and you could join the forum to ask any questions you might have

We used a tile called Jasba for a bathroom floor.

Ceramic, mosaic, really beautiful color choices. But only one tile store in our area carried it, so it might be harder to find than some others.

Lovely photo Pkirkha!

Chewtoy, do you happen to have pictures of the Jasba tile? I'm looking at a Jasba ceramic tile with cut outs for mosaic inserts. Their tiles do look beautiful and yes, I've seen they have a number of mosaic blends that are not glass.

I used to have a link to a tile company that would let you design your own square foot mosaic pattern using whatever colors they had available. You could pick as many colors as you wanted, then have the tool randomize the 144 tiles in the grid until you like how it looked. You could even swap out an individual tile or go completely OCD and hand place all 144 tiles. You could order a 12x12 or a 4x12 sample of your design.

I can't find the link right now, but I'll keep hunting for it. It was a super cool design tool.

Tartanhabit, I don't have a photo to post of our bathroom floor right now, but I looked at this website to see all of the Jasba offerings: http://www.mosaiccompany.co.uk

Ours is the M2 deep sea glossy. The website doesn't do it justice-- the tile is a richer color, and is, of course, glossy. As I remember, the store that we purchased from did not have all the Jasba samples, but was willing to order what we chose. One thing we love about the floor is that since the tiles are small, even though the floor is shiny/glossy, it isn't slippery because of all the grout lines.

I saw your tile on the Jasba site, nice stuff, and was wondering if it was slippery when wet.

Bill,

You may have already made your choice, but, fyi, the Jasba tile is not slippery when wet, but only because the tiles are so small and there is so much grout inbetween. If they were big, then yes, they would be slippery. We have had the floor down for 8 years and have had no slips or falls at all.
