We have granite and water isn't my concern. What does show up, because we chose a dark/black granite, is every dust, splatter from kids toothpaste, etc. At least it is cleaned regularly!

Water isn't an issue.

We have cafe imperial in our master bath and I love it. It is a dark coffee color with mica. I love how it hides everything. I haven't had any issues at all with care. It really is much easier than the white cultured marble stuff that was in there before. My husband's dark whiskers from his electric shaver were the bane of my existence now I can hardly see them but I know they're there and clean anyway but at least I don't have to look at them until I can get to it. I would totally recommend granite for the bathroom. It's used in restaurants, country clubs, high end hotels etc it must be a good surface or else it wouldn't be used in such high use areas. Maybe if you were putting in black absolute highly polished you might see lint or something but so what? You also see those dark whiskers on white cultured marble!!!

Thank you all for your comments. Our friend tells us that she visited someone who had granite in their bath and every time anyone used that bathroom, they were required to wipe down the counter lest water be left on it. Maybe the friend was extremely anal.

The Bella Verde is somewhat dark but with a lot of white veins in it. Actually when I do a web search for it, the images I find look different from the small sample I have. It always seems to be this way with granite! I saw a Verde Esmeralda that was about the most beautiful piece I have ever seen (but too bright a color for a counter), but none of the online pics of that same color are as brilliant or as beautiful/

Anyway, I think we are going to have to visit granite yards to see the actual pieces we have to choose from, but I won't be overly worried about choosing granite for the bathroom. For the kitchen, I am a bit more concerned, since we are not the types to tidy up eveything right after cooking or eating.

I have this granite in my bathroom and cleaning is not an issue. When I do a thorough cleaning in the bathroom I use Bayes countertop rejuvinator. Love it! Use it on the kitchen countertop, as well.(Not affiliated with Bayes company in any way but I do love their products)

I have leftover granite from my kitchen remodel I can use in my bathroom (s). I am leaning toward the front bathroom only. I am worried about putting it in my masterbath because I wear contacts, and am afraid I won't be able to find my contacts when I drop them. (My slab is fairly dark and has some movement).

I am shopping for a cabinet. The home depot kitchen/bath designer questioned why I would want granite in my bathroom because he thought it wouldn't be able to take the water very well. So that misperception is out there. He was pushing corian or engineered quartz, but I think he just wanted to make a sale.

I have a light green granite vanity top. It does get water spots but they dry up within minutes. I'm very happy with my choice. I find the light green is easier to care for than the dark green (Verde Peacock) in my kitchen because it is less reflective. On the other hand, the kitchen granite never shows a water stain.

granite was a great choice for our master bath... and we have a slab as the bench in the shower as well- we squeegee it usually after showering, but we don't dry it...no problems at all!

I have granite in both of my baths and love it. blue eyes in the one and cross-cut waterfall in the other. we also used the blue eyes on the shower curb and door threshold.

I have a light granite in the master bath, I didn't get it sealed right away, and did get a few stains. Most came out, and the others just kind of blend in. Softsoap seems to be a major culprit for me.

So, my advice, SEAL IT RIGHT AWAY AND OFTEN.

Our last house had a medium green granite in the kitchen and both baths. It had speckles and veins with darker green, black and cream, and nothing showed up on it. You had to feel it to find crumbs, etc. I think granite is one of the best choices for a vanity counter, along with engineered quartz. The tile and cultured marble vanities we had to live with in other houses were miserable.

With that said, I wish people would clean up after themselves if they splash a lot when washing their hands. I am not worried about water hurting granite, but I have been surprised by some of the huge puddles left on the counters when I have had people over.

I have a Giallo Ornamentale (creamy background with brown). It's sealed with a water based sealer (not an enhancer that makes it darker). NO problem what so ever and I'm very happy with my choice. It needs sealed once every 2-3 years but that's no big deal. Water isn't a problem as it will evaporate and lighten.

colorfast: yes, contacts would be a problem to find on a dark or busy counter. I've found the best way to find something on my granite counters is to bend down and get eye level with the counter :)
