Lighting budget for your build?
Comments (48)$4+/sq. ft. for high-end, says the lighting consultant. A Vegas-style entry hall crystal chandelier is de rigeur on higher-end homes in our metropolitan area. Figure C$5K-C$50K for that alone. **** Fortunately, when custom building, the pricing was easy as I just charged per potlight. Customers picked their own fixtures and were charged for installation only. When I spec built, I needed to be distinctive, but budget-minded. Especially, as I found that buyers often changed out my choices. All that careful shopping for naught! Comments (13)I feel your pain with the cost of lighting and I hope this may help a bit. I just ordered from lightingdirect.com but in the past used Bellacor for our exterior lights. I switched to Lighting Direct because they offer coupon matching as well as price matching. I shopped around for the bathroom light I wanted - wound up to be $318 everywhere. I found a 10% off coupon from a competitor, asked LD if they would match and they sent me this link: http://www.lightingdirect.com/index.cfm/page/browse:category/categoryID/8283?intcmp=smlsplshcompcoupq109#homepage_ad Instead of the 10% I wanted, they had a 16% coupon listed that I used. 16 is a goofy number but it saved me $50. They also had free shipping and (from what I could see) no restocking fee. Now, I just ordered so I'm not sure about their shipping times or communication about back orders. Comments (1)I forgot to include ceiling heights for the formal room - 9'4". The room is 22' long left to right and 21'10" from top to bottom as the plan is posted on the blog, in case that is not readable. Thanks! Anne...See Morex-post lighting budget
Comments (3)Lighting "products"-8 LED compatible recessed lights, 8 in cabinet lights and 120 v step down to low voltage wire/power supply, 8 direct wire 120 to in bar low voltage under cabinet lights (ucl), one chandelier and two sconces (everything on dimmers) in my kitchen remodel was approximately 3.5% of my budget. But, my ucl was very expensive because my GC wanted direct wire and the cabinet style mandated a low profile so few choices existed if I didn't want to see the lights which I didn't. Still, kitchen lighting can cost. Decide ahead on general lighting style and buy in bulk and on sale if possible. Dimmers can run high due to compatibility issues with lighting products and number around the room(s). Good luck....See Morejenanla
