Looking for Creative ideas to hide toilet

I've been reading the forum for a couple days now. We are about to redo our master bath. The layout will be completely different then its currently floorplan. The problem that is bothering me with the new floorplan is now when you enter the bathroom, one of the first things you will see is the toilet in the corner. Has anyone done a creative way to visually disguise this. I can build a half wall with no problem, just wondering if someone had come up with or seen a unique or different idea in this situation.

How about knitting a big toilet-cosy?

just kidding :)

Turning it so that it could accomodate a half-wall seems like the best plan to me. Short of re-arranging the layout, but maybe everything else has to be where it is? Or is there room to rearrange?

I saw an interesting layout where they split the bathroom in the center with a pocket door. The toilet and tub were behind the pocket door. Just the sink was in the front part of the bath. The idea was that the back area had a vent fan and the sink area was protected from humidity and odors.

It's almost like Christmas morning!! I woke up to a many more gifts! Thank you. Karin, thank you for the insight. I absolutely love the idea of an armoire. It would be beautiful, but I do not think practical. I am in those files many, many times each day. The ones to the right of my desk are customer files, the rolling files on the floor hold a few more customer files plus other info I need access to. Patty and Mary, the bookcase idea sounds like a possible as well. Les, you have given me even something more to think about. Several others mentioned this as well -- purpose of this room. As I said, this is a center hall colonial. 20 years ago we added 5' to our family room and added a large sunroom on the back of that. Since that time (and even before that) the living room has just been for show, not function. Several years ago my sons suggested moving my office from the basement, where dry as it was, it was still a basement. I was so very reluctant, because after all I was going to disparage the living room. So I put the desk and files in and bought the screen. While a very large room, shoving everything down just made it worse, because now I had just moved the living room over to make room for the office. I recently got rid of the sofa and two tables. That was great. I had my family room furniture delivered and they would take away any used furniture for free and donate to a furniture bank. I had the sofa and a chair (37 years old). One of the men said he knew someone who could use it and asked if that was okay with me. It felt good because I knew it was going to be put to use. It was in perfect condition - I just didn't want it anymore. Anyway, this has all made me realize that this room is primarily an office and I should embrace that - I am going to start by moving things around. Thank you, Les. I do love the bookcase divider idea as well. I have been thinking of moving the desk anyway, as it is starting to "alligator" in the sun. My father brought this home from work many years ago and refinished it. I can still see his hands on it, so want to preserve it. Les, if you are still out there, --- you mentioned a loveseat to the left as you walk in the room. You cannot see well from the pictures, but there is a very large window there. I don't think I would want a large piece against the window. Thanks again to all who helped me. Now, I just need to break the news to my dear, dear husband that I have yet another "plan".

Need Creative Ideas for Landscaping Around In-Ground Pool

Hello! I'm looking for ideas for backyard landscaping around an in-ground pool. The previous landscape was overgrown and I removed it all two years ago. I left some tall-growing "fountain grass" (that's what it looks like) to cover the fence and two small plum trees. I like the plum trees for color, but the grass is such a pain to cut and dispose of each year. Due to time constraints I limited it to mulch, the plum trees, and the grasses. The grasses add color and help hide the fence a bit, but they don't fully grow until mid-summer and fall over after a heavy rain. I plan on pressure washing and staining the rest of the fence the same color...the previous plants were in the way last summer. Same with the retaining wall...it looks brand new after washing, but I have to do it each year. The tiki bar and fence are cedar. I'm looking to keep the pool/tiki bar theme going so any fun ideas are welcome! The platform for the hot tub was a quick project and I thought about replacing the grass with patio stone and creating a step up to hide the ledger. I'm in Western Pennsylvania. Thank you in advance!

Hi Kathy, you signed off after my comment so it appears that I offended you, although it was not my intention. I am always defending other posters who receive rude comments about their home or taste so to offend someone else is not in my nature. I will say that if one chooses to post here, they do open themselves up to opinions that they may not agree with and maybe thicker skin is something to think about? I will explain myself further, my comment was out of legitimate concern for your daughter. My experience was with my 19 yr old niece who is a freshman in college this year. She is sharing a bathroom with strange girls for the first time and they can be brutal when someone does anything slightly different. My niece clogged the toilet during the first week of school and she is still hearing the names and mean comments. Girls that age call each other out and form cliques over the smallest things, when in fact they should be supporting one another. Anyway, just wanted to explain as I probably should have done initially.

Im sorry, but what are you asking? That is a brick wall, don't think you will get outlets in that wall, hide what the chain? I think you may be overthinking this, he puts junction boxes in the ceiling. They cut off the excess wire. Most of all I don' understand why you would want to hang pendants there? they will end up about 13-15 inches off the wall if you dont want them too look like they are stuck up against the wall If you use 10 inches of chain that is a 3.5-foot hanging height that would put them at or below eye level. I think you should cut this shape and size out of paper or cardboard and tape it to the ceiling before you commit,

Nothing fancy, but instead of a regular half wall I made it wider and turned it into a storage cabinet.

The top drawer holds an always plugged in hair dryer, curling iron, whatever.

The bottom drawer is like a pantry pull out. 30" deep, divided vertically into two halves, one facing the sink, the other the toilet. The side facing the sink has shelving that performs like a medicine cabinet, I think I made those shelves about 4" deep. The side facing the toilet has deeper shelving, about 5-6" deep, to hold toilet paper, toilet cleaning supplies, plunger, brush, etc.

Love the cabinet Mongo!

You could also do a screen of sorts -- either freestanding or a simple panel of textured glass.

Is your concern mainly sightlines? Or total privacy (sight, smell and sound?)

I love the cabinet idea Mongo, I hadn't consider putting a cabinet to handle this job, plus I'd get more storage! The idea is more visual then privacy. Thanks for everyones input.

What a neat idea! As we reno our house from top to bottom, I am jealously trying to grab as much storage space as possible from each room. That 'storage wall' vs half wall, has to be one of the best ideas I've seen! Out of curiosity, why didn't you continue it all the way up? My present bath, which I'm about to gut and redo, has a similar layout, but with a full wall (ie all the way to ceiling), but just to end of counter (I'm calling that a half wall, vs what I call a pony wall which is just bar height).

I also may steal your tower idea- in fact, I could just borrow the whole layout!

If I took this bathroom and positioned my tub at the end (where you have the toilet), could I have my tub deck butted right up to the cabinet at that end (tile it on the tub side)? How much 'in and out' room does a tub need? My room is 79" wide at that point.
