"Duncan Phyfe" is a style, not a manufacturer.

Look it up on Google and see if the styles match. The chances of it being a set actually constructed by Phyfe are near zero: in 1970 his chairs alone were selling for thousands and thousands.

I would say the style is just what I always thought was colonial,& maple color of stain. The bench & chairs definitely are matched in style & with the table legs also. So I guess they are a set. I did Google it earlier, but there was so much, I didn't know where to start.

Duncan Phyfe was an American ( born in England) furniture designer in the early part of the 19th century. As Lazy said, anything made in his studio is today worth thousands upon thousands of dollars today.
Because his style was so definitive of the era, it was widly imitated and reproduced...for almost 200 years furniture makers have been copying his style.
Most likely you have a piece of Duncan Phyfe styled furniture....but it may be Sheraton or cloonial styled instead.
But weather or not it is a copy of Phyfe's style has nothing to do with it's value.

Duncan Phyfe was a high-style, expensive NYC furniture designer in the early 19c. I do not think he worked in maple or did things like deacon's benches. His name became somewhat synonymous with "early American" or "colonial" and that may be why you were told your furniture was that. The real thing is in museums, if you want to check it out in person. Or the public library will have books with photos.

Another thought is Wallace Nutting. He made reproductions of high style early American furniture in the early 20c. They were of very high quality and are now quite collectible themselves, tho not as expensive as the real thing.

Thank you all. After looking thru that link, I do not see how mine is DP style. The legs are more spindle, not the curve with no carving on them. I will post a picture as soon as I can. I guess I was just misinformed.
