Would you do this upgrade for the flooring?

We're in the finishing stretch of our home build. The other day, our contractor told me that the flooring guy wanted if we wanted to upgrade to 4 inch wide flooring planks (red oak) for approximately $1200. The original spec called for 2-1/4 inch planks.

The total wood floor area is about 2400 sq ft. and the home we are building is a Craftsman style house.

I recognize that the wider planks give the floors a better look and the contractor is recommending we do this. That said, we are about 10% over budget on this build, and are doing some things to hold costs and cut some costs in other areas. We will have oriental rugs to cover up some areas of the floor throughout the house, so some of the "nicer" look of the floors will be covered up.

I like to get your thoughts on whether this is an upgrade worth spending money on?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
