Do I need widespread holes for 30'' pedestal sink?

Now that I've decided on the 30" kohler memoirs sink, I'm trying to figure out if I need the 8" widespread faucet holed one, or can I go with the cheaper 4"? Also, why is the complete sink and pedestal more expensive than buying the sink and base separately. Am complete novice here, so any help is greatly appreciated.

4"is builder-grade cheap. Using a widespread is much more elegant. If you are doing a bathroom that is anything other than very basic, the 4" will look cheap. Not sure about the parts vs the whole question but also not sure I understand. Are you talking about a vanity? What is the base?

That is totally opinianated and coming from someone who really knows very little about upscale plumbing fixtures.

I have a catalog here that lists extremely high end elegant fixtures and they show an entire line of early American & French Provincial faucetts that start out at $1800 and range up to $3900 and they are all 4". Now tell me that is contractor grade cheap.

The bottom line, select the type of faucett that matches your decor and is within your budget range. There is no difference is function.

Old post but I have a similar issue. We bought a house with a bridge faucet (so just two holes in the marble top.) The faucet is now leaking and can't be fixed. To replace it, bridge faucets START at $350 and go up from there to the $1000 price range. We also have another sink on the other side of the bathroom, so if you replace one that will be roughly $400-$700, we probably should replace the other. The second option is to drill a third hole, for a standard wide spread set up. But for a third and budget option, I was looking at some single hole faucets, and putting a soap dispenser on the second hole. I am assuming you would put the water faucet on the left hole, and soap on the right (that is what comes to mind for a right handed person) but I am not sure. This is a home we will move from in about 3 years give or take. Trying to think budget, aesthetics, and function. And would a home buyer think "what the heck?" or say "awesome." You cannot see the other vanity area as the shower and toilet area are in the middle of the bathroom, so I am thinking I can have one faucet on one, and another set up on the other, as long as they are in the same bronze family and similar style (these have an old vintage look to them.) Thoughts?

I don't know that it will necessarily matter. Whatever faucet you choose needs to relate to the size of the sink and then the sinks need to relate to the size of the vanity. We chose single hole faucets for our vanity because we wanted easy of cleaning around the base of the faucet. Our vanity is only 67 inches long and I think widespread faucets would have looked appropriate. that's my two cents anyway:-)

Thanks, rsvlle-nj! Those are really good points. Neither my vendor nor I want to be stuck with a mangled sink. Now that I know the dimensions of my faucet, I suppose I just need to ensure that the holes on the 3rd sink they send don't have damage that extends beyond a 2 inch diameter. I wonder if it's worth a call to Duravit to see if that's even deliverable... This would be so much easier if I wanted a single hole faucet. I imagine that's what you chose for your Happy D? I love those Happy Ds! My friends had one in their last home and they wish they could've taken it with them.

That comment about 4" center faucets being and looking cheap is inappropriate and not necessarily true.

You need the type of faucet that fits your sink. It looks like the 30" sink uses an 8" faucet or a single-hole faucet. Make sure you get the sink that matches your chosen faucet.

Did you get the price quotes from two different sources? It doesn't make sense otherwise that the package would be more expensive than the separate parts. Unless the package includes other things like the p-trap.

Thanks for the advice. I was pricing the pedestal sink on the Lowe's website, just for a ballpark figure. I know kohler pedestal comes with two different versions of the memoirs sink and a base. I was just wondering if I go with the sink and base, if I'll be missing something. Low's sells a complete version, and then the separates. The complete was about $60 more.

I couldn't find the 30" basin on the website. I could only find the complete set for the 30" wide one. Are you sure you were looking at a price for the 30" wide basin?

Yep...just checked again...they have all the colors, and sell it complete and separately. I'm assuming my contractor will know, but I'm trying to work up my budget, and hope to not leave anything out:)

In my opinion, either looks fine. BUT, having had the 4" faucets for many years, I much prefer the 8" widespread ones for ease of cleaning. We are completing complete renovation of two bathrooms and have chosen the 8" widespread faucets for both for that reason.
