Yeah, we use our drawer, for bread!! No, honestly, we have never used our warming drawer. I would never buy another one again.

We use ours several times a week for warming serving and dining plates as well as keeping food warm.

Mostly at the holidays, when entertaining, and when someone is ("oh no!") late for dinner. While ours (a KitchenAid) can function as a slow-cooker, we've continued using our trusty crock pot.

I think a big issue is location. A warming drawer under an oven stack, and barely off the floor, like my brother has, often barely gets used (his, never). What I learned here is to put the warming drawer right under a cooktop, or other undercounter position.

I'm giving up some prime drawer space for mine, and hope it works well. It'll be located under an Advantium, just below counter height, and handy for plate warming, platters rushed in from the dining room, and holding takeout.

Oh, check with your dealer. I paid less than I expected to this month for a Monogram warming drawer.

Good point plllog. Our is right under the range top. Close to the food that winds up in it and easy to access.

Our warming drawer is in the island, across from our rangetop and wall ovens. There is a utensil drawer above it (gotta keep those convenient) and a standard drawer beneath it. To me, putting a warming drawer barely above the floor is asking for trouble (the kind of trouble opportunistic dogs and cats love).

Andybp, I have the same set up as you plan: 36" Bluestar (mine is 6 burner LP), Advantium over ZET oven. Both the Advantium and ZET have "warm" functions. I saw no need for a warming drawer, and have not missed having one, even over the holidays and when DH is late for dinner.

I only use mine on Sunday's when I make pancakes. It works well keeping them hot while I cook the rest. Otherwise, I never use it.

We have 3 ovens and use ours all of the time. I find it to be much more effective than using a warm oven. Its consistent, gentle (goes to and stays at much lower temps than you can effectively achieve with an oven) and does not seem to dry out things like a warmed oven seems to.

While mine is the only thing I would consider living without in the new kitchen, I do use it and enjoy having it. Mine is in the island across from the cooktop and on the end nearest the table we eat at most often. I haven't gotten into the habit of warming plates that often, but I do like them when we do. We usually heat it up when we order pizza (but not when we make it at home) and the usual dish that needs to stay warm while othre things finish or guests arrive, but the time I loved having it the most was New Year's Eve. My kids had a party and we did a taco and nacho bar. The drawer held chips and taco shells -- they were warm, crispy and everything tasted better. I remember someone commenting about using it for popcorn during a party, but we havent done that yet.

Mine is rated for outdoor or bathroom use, so I could move it and have warm towels -- or get another one, when we redo the bathroom.

I did, pbrisjar. Cute pictures. Our dog (a havanese) is so small that the risk of him helping himself from the warming drawer didn't occur to me. Now that I think about it, there is some danger that a pet or child could be burned. The image of a cat jumping into a warming drawer to investigate the source of a yummy smell comes to mind (followed by a hasty retreat and licking of burned paws). I suppose that warming drawers, like ovens, shouldn't be left unattended, particularly when open. I know we keep ours closed except when we need them open and imagine others here do as well.

We don't really use ours very much other than for proofing and sometimes for entertaining. Mostly it is just the two of us and we usually eat together so keeping things warm isn't really an issue. I only have one full-sized wall oven and a smaller combo microwave/convection so the warming oven seemed like a good idea when we planned the kitchen but honestly, one of the only things I wish I had done differently with this kithen was to have another oven by way of a full stove rather than a range top. If I had that extra oven, I would not have put a warming drawer in at all.

I have mine under the counter next to the double wall oven. I use mine a good bit - DH works late. Loved having it for the holidays. If space and budget are not an issue I would recommend getting one.

Yeah - if I had little kids I'd probably not to this range because of the safety issues (thought the stove does have a child lock features for the controls). But the pups are a bit too small and not very handy with their paws so the drawer is safe. Even though they are reasonably trained there's no way I'd leave that drawer open and unattended. It'd just be too tempting.

I have a thermador so it's between the oven and microwave. When not in use I store my breads in it, they seem to last longer in there. But I use it at least once a week and it's a life saver during the holidays and when I have dinner guests. I also use it when I make pancakes or tacos and it's great for heating up rolls. Plus my DH never knows when he'll be home.

Thanks for all the advice above. Still torn. Unfortunately based on the layout of our kitchen, the only place I can put the warming drawer is below the ovens, which sounds like may not be the best location.

What exactly is the difference between putting something in the warming drawer versus on warm in the oven?

Andybp, most ovens won't go down in temperature as low as a warming drawer, though some warming drawers don't go low enough either. It depends on what you're using it for. For safety, food should be held at 140F at the very least. Ovens with a keep warm function will sometimes go that low. That's awfully hot for plate warming, however, especially if you have metallic decor on your plates. It's too much for rising dough as well. Some, including the Monogram, also have steam vents so you can adjust how much moisture you retain in the warming drawer, depending on what you have in it.

Other functions for a warming drawer include recrisping cereal and crackers, and the one I just learned from Bluesbarby, storing bread! (I was trying to figure out where to put a bread drawer, and this is kind of perfect! Makes sense it would work, because it's sealed.)

Another question is what's the ambient temperature of your kitchen? For each degree lower on your thermostat there's a corresponding increase in the speed at which your food cools. If sliced meat gets cold on the platter before the boys reach for seconds, you might be really happy to have and use a warming drawer regularly, even under the ovens. If your kitchen is toasty warm it's less of a must have.

I'm considering a warming drawer in my new kitchen and have found that some say they have moisture control or a humidity setting. Should i assume that if it doesn't specify this, it DOESN't have that feature?
I'm assuming this feature could help alot from keeping foods from drying out?
I'd love to hear from members re this.

I LOVE my warming drawer and use it pretty frequently, *especially* for entertaining. I find it indispensable for big parties. I have a double oven and even with ample oven space, I like that I can put side dishes in the drawer for a big dinner or plates and cups to warm before you sit down to dinner. Mine has a timer (which is essential) so I set it and forget it.

I have some friends who use theirs as storage during the "regular" season and clear it out when they have parties and events. If you have a small kitchen it might not be worth it but I've found it to be a huge convenience item. Kitchen Aid has a warming drawer that doubles as a slow cooker - not sure how well that works but it's an interesting take.

Yes, love it. I have a Miele in our second home and it is SO much better than the GE in our main house. The GE makes a lot of noise as the metal is too thin and expands as it contracts and is pretty annoying. Never a GE again.

We use ours with a decent frequency -- weekend breakfasts, pizza nights, parties (the kids loved the taco shells and tortilla chips kept warm and crispy in there -- popcorn, even snacks -- doesn't have to be the main food). Even with double ovens and a micro with a keep warm setting, it is in use for every large holiday meal and gathering. The one thing I haven't done much with it is holding a plate warm for someone who has to eat later. I could count those on a single hand after more than 2 years. I thought it would help during band's marching season, so the main reason I got one has turned out to be the least used.

I do enjoy having a warming drawer, but I could live without it (it is the only appliance I could give up). Mine is also the Dacor 24" indoor/outdoor model, so I could put it outside or even put it in the bathroom for towel warming. It was the only one that fit the 21" deep cabinet in our island and it gave us that ability to change it out for another drawer if we found we weren't using it enough. Still, I think I might just put another one in the bathroom. Heated towels or a bathrobe ready and waiting sound so nice..... and I guess we could keep popcorn warm when watching a movie in bed. :-D
