A stunning porcelain marble look tile...

Just came across this and wanted to post as this really looks pretty and very high end. Like it better than the Rondine calacatta. They also have a formal looking version of calacatta that they pair with wenge colored porcelain wood strips. Look through all the images there. Many sizes and trims and come natural or polished. Tile is about $6.50 a sf. and the high-low mosaic shown is $45 a sf. There is another 1 x 6 stacked mosaic for only $14.00 a sf.

I think it looks stunning! I would have to see it IRL to make a final judgement about it, though. Have you seen it in person?

No, I'm waiting for samples to arrive, but Rex makes some really gorgeous tile so I'm hopeful it will just as nice in person. It's a lighter background than the Rondine calacatta. Wish I had a larger bath to use that dark wood look tile with it. The only problem is i wanted you use the 18 X 18 tiles in the shower and bath area and those don't come polished. Will have to use the 12 X 24 but the tub is only 57" long so 2 tiles across with some on the sides won't look right. Will have to run them vertically. I was thinking of a mosaic strip where the showerhead and knobs are about 18" wide, and then run the mosaic as a backsplash to the vanity to tie that in. It's an alcove vanity and it will go against bare wall on the short sides.

Do you have a sample of the Silestone Lagoon to look at with your tile. I think you are right that it might look slightly off but it's hard to know with out seeing it in person. I also think it might be difficult to find a solid white countertop that will play well with both the white in the tile and your white countertops. Maybe you should concierge a light to medium tone gray countertop. It will provide a little contrast and keep your room from looking too white (unless that is the look you want). I think it would look better not to have too much movement in the countertop since the porcelain carrara tile has lots of movement. I posted a picture earlier in this thread showing the Carrara look alike tile my daughter used in her bathroom. She opted for light gray cabinets and initially wanted a white countertop. She shopped remnants for her countertop and was not able to find something that didn't "look slightly off". She ended up using a black quartz that had some lighter speckles in it. She thought it looked better than a solid color. Perhaps you could find a grey with some flecks of dark grey, black or white in it. I've posted many pics of my daughter's bathroom on this forum but here's a few shots for you so you can see how contrasting colors work Since you probably don't want to go with black, maybe something like Silestones Ocean Jasper Or Moonstone Would work for you. If your not limited to Silestone Cambria has some options that might work too. Snowdown White Greystone Good look with your search for the right countertop.

New white powder room vanity has a carrera marble countertop and I can't find a porcelain 12x24 floor tile that looks good with it. Can I do a porcelain faux marble floor or is that too much pattern? Floor tiles seem to turn darker and while I will be changing the bathroom high hats to brighter LED's, can anyone suggest a tile that will not be too busy or dark?

You can certainly do a brick or stacked pattern in the shower and a larger format tile for the floor. This is not overthinking AT ALL. This is simple design 101, in fact, the same stone in different sizes and even shapes (like hex) is very inviting to the eye and it breaks up the monotony. Also, there is nothing wrong with different colors for grout on floor and walls. It sounds like a 12x24 might be a bit big for a herringbone pattern unless you have a LARGE floor to lay it out on. Even so, the diagonal look is very interesting in a 30cm tile for example. Your original idea sounds fine!!!

Funny that you found this tile...I am planning on using the calcutta rex tile in my bath reno. My contractor was discouraging me from using the "real thing" in my shower area; he feels that moisture and marble do not mix, and I am not a maintainance person...don't want to have to seal marble, etc. I found this porcelain tile at my tile store, and currently have a 12X24" polished "marble" sample in my home. I have faked out a number of people so far who thought the tile was marble (including three designers), so I am planning on using it. The sales person at the tile shop said that the company uses many different screens to create the tiles, so the "patterns" in the tile are more natural, and do not repeat or appear as uniform as they do with some other products. I plan to mix in some marble elements... the tile line does not include many trim pieces, so I'll need to mix and match between the "fake" porcelain and the real deal. It'll work, for sure; I've put marble trims up against the porcelain, and they match quite well. Anyway, it is the solution to my problem of wanting marble, but not being able to convince my husband or contractor that marble is a good choice for our bathroom.

Another note: I am pretty sure that the sales person told me that the calcutta rex comes in polished in both the 12X24 and 18X18 sizes. (also, retail price quoted was $9.99 sf; my contractor will get a discount, bringing it down to about $7.)

Mountainseer, did you happen to also see the Pallisdro in that photo? Was wondering how that looked in person. I love their calacatta too, but it looks a bit too formal for me. Just checked again and the polished doesn't come in 18 X 18 unless they added it after the PDF file showing the pieces was done.

Did you happen to see the Rondine calacatta too? Was curious how the Rex one compares. That one looks very real in the polished but the background was a bit grayish for me. Thanks!

The tile is beautiful, but I am curious why your contractor thinks that you shouldn't put real marble in the bathroom. People have been using marble in bathrooms for thousands of years - and some of those baths are still standing beautifully after centuries.

Please enlighten me because I think marble baths are stunning.
