I used to go to a home based salon and the hairdresser (owner) had a sign up saying tipping wasn't allowed. I totally agree with this since she gets all the profits. Just last week I paid $105 for color and a haircut! I notice that hair salons don't break down the various services by price anymore - they just give you the total. My hair color was just an all over color that I could have achieved at home. It came out so dark that I bought a Loreal Highlighting kit the next day. It comes with the all over color and the highlights. I bought Toasted Coconut (the kits are on sale for $12.99 at RiteAid this week only). I used the highlight part and put some highlights in my hair and I am very pleased with it. When my roots show I will use the all over color part of the kit and touch up the roots and maybe blend some into the end. It is virtually foolproof but if you want some highlights in the back it would be easier to ask a friend or daughter - or a last resort husband - to do the back since that can be tricky. I've used this kit before and it is just as good as anything I've gotten at a salon. I've actually gotten compliments on my hair, something I didn't get when I was paying $100-$200! Also, I no longer automatically add 20% to my bill because of the outrageous prices they are charging. $10 is my limit, no matter what. Call me cheap, but I'm not a fool.

This is what works best for me (although my hair is naturally wavy/curly, fine but thick): Wash hair only when absolutely necessary. After washing & LIGHT conditioning on ENDS ONLY, gently comb through to remove any tangles, let dry just slightly. Then gently gather all your hair on top of your head with a scrunchie. Just kind of wind it around on top (if it's long). I don't try to arrange mine at all, I just sort of wad it up (gently !) and wrap the scrunchie around the knot. Then I go to bed. When I get up in the morning, I undo the scrunchie and let the hair fall loose. It's usually still slightly damp just on top, but by the time I finish getting ready for work, it's completely dry. This method gives me the best curls, and because I pull it to the top of my head while wet, it boosts volume too. For curls without frizz, I think the key is to don't over-handle your hair: no excessive washing, keep hands off, and no blow drying at all if you can. Remember too that length adds weight, which pulls curls down. A fresh hair cut can really give you more/better curls ! As far as the kind of cut to get, I posted here awhile back about the same thing, cause I can never seem to settle on a style that suits me. Didn't get too many replies, but I did find some advice at various websites. Do a search and see what you come up with........

My kitchen reno plans are on hold til DH mends his fractured/destroyed shoulder, and our bank account rebounds a little from him being off work, but this greenman set is going to be my "pink hair", along with a soapstone counter. For many it's one clown too many but it's me, it's my space, and it sings to my heart! I do hope you find what puts your stamp on your space, and you find your pink hair. I erroneously selected a outwardly pink color for my attic office and when I returned home that night I hated it. My painter suggested one of BMs whites with pink undertone - Atrium white - and it was perfect. Should have checked with him BEFORE he painted as he was back changing it the next day. The point I am trying to make is that if you go for a pink, the most subtle color on a strip may end up being too much. Such was the case with my first choice which ended up looking like Pepto Bismol. Sue
