wolf AG burner issue

I have a one year old 30" wolf AG range. I've read some of the threads on this issue, but can't find the ones from a year ago to compare notes. I'm experiencing two issues that service has been called on (they'll be out next week), but wanted to verify these are actual issues in case service tries to blow off my concerns.

Issue #1... When boiling 5 qts of water in an 8 qt SS all clad stock pot, after 5m or so, I see blue flames licking up the side of the stock put 1-1.5" or so. It does this on one of the two front burners and sure seems like a fire hazard.

Issue #2... When the oven is in use, like say after 30m of preheat time, the burners have problems with the setting between Med. and Hi (some burner are worse than others). The problem is that the individual flame flickers on and off in some/alot of the burner holes as if it is getting too much air or not enough to have proper combustion. On the Hi setting these problem burners also sound more like flame throwers then other burners as if they are getting too much air. When the range is cold the problem isn't nearly as noticeable.

I'm an engineer and by nature anal retentive, but only have a year left on warranty so let me know if this is "normal" or if I should go worry about some thing else... And yes, I've cleaned the burners, disassembled and reassembled several times. I do not have problems igniting the burners w/ the oven on or off.

I've had the 2nd problem you describe, and whenever the tech comes to look at it, the range works fine. He warned me to make sure I ALWYAS turn the vent on about 5 minutes prior to cooking. He told me whenever the oven is on the range can get starved for oxygen. The longer the oven is on the worse the problem. I also have a problem with ignition.

I would agree the longer it is on, the worse it is. I plan on having the oven on for at least an hour before they get here tomorrow.

I do always run the hood as well. Doesn't make the 2nd problem any better or worse.

I couldn't say anything about accuracy at least recently (haven't checked it with an oven thermometer)--I know the Jade range we'd returned (and replaced with the Wolf) was never calibrated correctly, even after a tech supposedly calibrated it for us. At some point while we were involved with the Wolf AG burner issues/replacement ranges/"fix" I believe the tech did check to make sure the oven was at the set temp during one of his visits to work on the range we ended up with.

I have a Wolf AG range. I like the burners on the AG, and I like having the ability to remove the burner pans for cleaning if/when I want. For smaller cleaning, I'll spot clean using paper towel and Perfect Kitchen (blue bottle) from BB&B. It was recommended at the Wolf showroom in NJ. They don't seem to carry all the "Perfect" cleaning products in all the BB&B's (they make Perfect granite, Perfect Bathroom, etc.) so you might need to look for it. For a more thorough cleaning, I remove the grates and the burner pans and scrub them in the sink. I don't always clean the grates when I clean the pans as they don't always need cleaning. The pans I can clean pretty quickly using a blue scrub sponge, a small squirt of dish soap, and a sprinkle or more of BKF. If the pans are really grimy, or have caked/burnt on crud, I'll spray them with Dawn Power Dissolver and let them sit for awhile before scrubbing (don't let it drip on HW flooring though, it eats through the poly, as does Easy Off, I think). I like that I can scrub the burner pans in the sink and then rinse them off with the spray, rather than trying to rinse/clean off soap and cleansers when they are attached to the range. I dry the pans while they are still "hot" after rinsing using a dishtowel (FYI, I use Ritz Wonder Towels--they absorb a lot of water, continue to dry things even when very damp, and don't leave lint behind). If there are any smudges after you've replaced them on the range, you can buff/wipe them off with a dry microfiber, dishtowel or paper towel if they bug you. I promise you, it sounds more complicated and time-consuming than it really is. Yes, more time than cleaning the old white 4 burner rangetop we had before, but the trade-offs are still well worth it! Also, after you've done it a few times, you get youre "routine" down and it goes pretty quickly. For the record; I am far from "Sally clean" and I certainly don't clean my range every day (or even every week, though some weeks I should!). I'd go with the AG burners again in a heartbeat.

This is unconnected to Wolf, but an interesting observation. Thanksgiving day, I used the oven in my 30 year old Vulcan for the first time while using the burners. I have a 27" wall oven that I usually use instead of heating up the behemoth and uninsulated 36" oven in the range. When the oven was preheating (which takes forever, as you may be able to imagine), I could no longer use the burner that I use 90% of the time--just hissing gas, no flame even though the pilot ws lit. I moved over a burner, and was not able to simmer. I have standing pilots, so there was no clicking, but because I was familiar with this thread, I thought I'd post the odd experience. I just wonder if some of these issues are more common in all gas ranges and if the posts have made people notice them more (not that it makes it acceptable). From a standpoint of scientific curiosity, it would be interesting to have resolution/explanation. I have been looking at Bluestar for replacing the 60" monster in the spring. I'm guessing it's a foreign problem with them?

First, a warning -- I have never lived in a house that needed make-up air. Not even close. Double-pane glass makes little sense for us since all the heat goes around the sashes in our Victorian. My experience with MUA is related to commercial systems. What follows is an opinion about the kinds of things that would make me consider MUA. Unless you have a Code requirement for make-up air, you have a fireplace you use when cooking (I seem to remember that you are South Bay?), have a "naturally" vented gas appliance in "connected space" (no always-closed doors between the hood and the appliance), or have a "tight" house (recent, energy-efficient construction, most likely), I would skip MUA. Even if you do need MUA, the difference in the maximum hood flow probably wouldn't significantly influence the the cost of the MUA system, which I would think was primarily labor driven. If not significantly more expensive, and you can run at least an 8" duct (preferably a 10"), I'd go with 900 CFM for two reasons: * You have it when you need it -- guests over, and the kitchen fills with smoke... * A 900 CFM blower at 600 CFM may be noticeably quieter than a 600 CFM blower at 600 CFM The 24" will serve you well. Yes, I've read several of the threads on the burner issues, and a bunch more a year ago before purchasing the stove. My issue is a little different from those threads in that my burners light just fine.

Repair man was here today and verified my gas pressure, exhaust fan, and air flow mixtures were ok. Wolf is sending out the burner shield "fix" several others have mentioned and they claim this will fix my problem. I was able to reproduce both problems w/ the tech here. I had the oven on for two hrs before he got here.

Wolf doesn't have any of the repair kits in stock, so the tech said it will likely be several weeks before he's back to install them. I'll post back the results when after he's here.

Just wanted to jump in here with my own experience. I have a two-year old Wolf AG 36" range. I had this issue once or twice in the spring after we installed our range in January of 2007. My burners dld not light fully and/or the oven would not heat up fully when both were going at once. I had a repairman out to look at it and everything was working properly. After checking the thermostat and my gas lines (which were fine), he ordered a patch kit per Wolf's instructions and was scheduled to come back for the repair. However, the problem has never recurred and I never scheduled the followup service. I'm a cook; I've prepared Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter meals as well as everyday family meals and hosted many successful dinner parties over the past two years. I do have one burner out of six that seems slow to ignite, sometimes "whooshing" when it finally lights. I've found that if I turn it on slowly, allowing gas to escape before the igniter lights, the burner lights properly Just a quirk on that one burner. Otherwise, my stovetop, oven, infrared broiler all work perfectly. I do think it's an oxygen issue with the one front burner. Another trick that works for me with that burner is to wave the air over this burner before attempting to light to provide fresh air/oxygen. As for the oven issue, my husband thought at the time (as did others on this forum) that it might be a gas line issue, even an issue of fluctuating gas pressure coming from the street's common gas lines. We live in an older neighborhood and it seems like a reasonable explanation since we've had zero problems since. Of course, I'm no engineer!

Anyway, hope you get your problems resolved. Wolf seems to have wonderful customer service. I really do love my stove . . . wouldn't trade it for anything else. Love the solid fit and finish, the open burners' flame pattern, and the fabulous infrared broiler. More than enough firepower for me. I also love that all six burners are the same BTU's.

I'm not having problems with the burners lighting, but with flame lifting off the burners when the oven on and the sound of air (like a blow torch) from the burners.

Pressure isn't and issue for me (or at least not to my meter). I have the main pipeline for the state running through my property. We're one of the few rural sub divisions w/ natural gas because of this.
