Cappuccino maker instructions...

I wonder if anyone can help me. I bought a used cappuccino/expresso machine and didn't realize I didn't have the instructions till I got home. Can someone please tell me how to use it and how I can get me a good cup of Cappuccino with it. I got 3 bottles of "syrup" with it too. Does anyone know anything about these? Its a Krup. Maybe someone will know where I can write to to get a book or maybe someone else owns the same thing and can scan me the instructions and email them to me. Thanks

Well....I also bought a used capuccino machine....but mine's a DeLhongi.
They are really pretty self explinatory. You should have a place to put the water.....and a cortrol to turn on to heat the water. Fill with water and heat. All that I have seen have a ready light that goes on when the water is hot. Then you have the container for the grounds....it will have a handle and a cup with fine holes in it. Figure out where it fits on the coffee maker, fill the cup with espresso grind dark roast coffee....pack very gently and replace the coffee holder on the machine. Place a cup under the place where the water comes out and turn the doal until coffee comes out into the cup....when the coffee dripping down becomes light in color....turn the valve off. Then put about 2 inches of skim milk in the frothing pitcher, and find the symbol for steam on the dial....turn it to that, wait for the ready light....and stick the steamer wand just below the surface of the milk. Steam until the froth reaches about 1/2 way up the pitcher, and add to the coffee in the cup,use a spoon so as to get lots of the froth, and add sugar, flavorings or what as you choose.
Maybe someone who has made it before could show you how.

Not all espresso/cappuccino machines are powerful enough to produce the amount of steam required to foam up the milk. Linda's direction to use skim milk is good, because the less fat in the milk the better it foams.

I read quite a few reviews on those inductions discs. For what sandbox 5 wants it for, It should work great. Naturally because of the "Metal Mass" it would not heat/cool as fast as a proper induction pan/pot but still will most likely more quickly bring the water to a boil, than perhaps, a gas burner with 22K or 23 K burners but even then I suspects it would be a "Close Race" For her use, (the Coffee Machine), she does not need the "Ultra Control" that induction offers without "said Plate". I tried another cappuccino with the pressure valve down. The instructions for a smoothtop say 6-11 minutes. I waited till the clock (yes, I did time it exactly!) turned 12 minutes (and could hear steam trying to escape between the two sections and afraid the release valve would go off) and then I manually released the valve. The coffee sprayed all over and came out boiling for about 2 minutes (I took it off the stove immediately). It did continue to froth for the 2 minutes or more but the coffee, after I poured it, was overextracted and bitter. That was a full 14 minutes! and way too much. Without the valve down I usually have the coffee dripping in the pot between 6-7 minutes and done at 8 1/2-9/12 min. There must be a valve problem with this particular pot and I really don't want to mess with the cost and effort of mailing it back. Will call the store it was purchased from and see if they (or bialetti) will replace the valve as the rest of the pot is ok. I just get very irritated with myself when I buy something like this and it doesn't work. My DH just shakes his head and says I should just use the old drip pot we have and let it go! He doesn't understand that for me the process is part of the whole experience!

Some of the old blower motors on the Carrier furnaces had a port to add lubricating oil. Check to see if your blower has this option. If it does see if adding a few drops of motor oil will help the situation. The motor may be reaching end of life and probably needs to be replaced. It could also be a start up capacitor. Look for the capacitor and see if it is replaceable.

You will get very high end, serious recommendations here. Then another type from me. Years ago, I had one of the first automatic espresso makers, one that required the grinding, tamping, dumping etc. Then I gave it up when I lived in NYC and didn't need it. Second time around I didn't want all the mess, as you describe. After consultation and recommendations on the kitchen forum, I went with a Nespresso machine with a separate milk frother. Everyone there who had one loved and recommended it. Always a good sign. I bought one that didn't take up much space. I wanted the separate frother so if something broke the whole machine wasn't a loss. I got it on sale at Williams-Sonoma. It was under $300. I've been using it for 2 years and I get excellent espresso and cappuccino which I've served to restaurateurs who own major restaurants, assorted foodies and an Italian friend who is very picky about coffee. It's a pod system. No mess whatsoever though the frother needs maintenance and the machine needs descaling twice a year. The pods are fairly expensive but there is a good selection. I use only the stronger blends which are to my taste. They come within 2 days or ordering by mail and they enclose recycling bags. So I keep used pods in the freezer, transfer them to the recycling bags and drop them at UPS. I've been very happy with the whole set up. And I no longer waste half a pot of coffee.
